Then you see one of the SDS guys have the audacity to get on here and say they read and listen to the OS fans. Hah! You might read but you sure a heck don't listen. I get we're prob the hardcore minority but don't lie to us. We don't like being coddled.

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Yeah but none of us were fooled. A lot of us were sounding the alarms that they were implementing this only a few weeks before release and that was not enough time to adjust the engine to account for it. If anyone had hope this was actually going to work than it is on you for getting fooled. The right thing would be for SDS to release the first roster update with salaries scaled back to the fake ones. You know, the salaries that actually allowed franchise to work somewhat properly. I doubt they will do this though since this was basically their one and only feature they used as an example that they still care about franchise modeComment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Just curious...
Are you noticing if CPU-controlled teams do any contract extensions for their players?
I did see in the video that both Javy Baez and Kris Bryant found their way onto the Brewers(?!?), so I assume that meant that the Cubs did not extend either guy, which to me is kind of odd. I know for sure your video showed Bryant signing a FA deal with MIL, but I wasn't sure about Baez.
Are there any contract extensions being done?Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 03-26-2019, 12:29 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
I did a quick sim test (didn’t document anything; was very informal) and noticed at least one year where all 30 teams received two competitive balance draft picks. Never saw that in 18. I assume this is related to the new budget system, but I don’t fully know how the game metes out those picks.Comment

No opt outs either which are in most big deals now.

Oops - maybe it will be fixed in a patch - or the new feature for the show 2020 will be realistic budgets to match realistic salaries.≡Comment

So basically the only work around atm is to do everything manually, correct?

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
I don’t care at all about “real” contracts or team budgets so much as ensuring player movement throughout the league works in a way that makes sense in the context of my franchise world. One of the most frustrating things to me with 18 was that no teams had money left, so free agents went unsigned and trades were often nearly impossible. If that has been “fixed” with the way things work now, I’m more than fine with the problems people are experiencing here. My aims with franchise are pretty niche, though, so I get the frustrations others have.
My main focus on simming was to look at prospect generation and leaguewide player progress.
I think I got about seven years in.
We still have tons of prospects 23-25 years old, which bugs me a lot. That’s totally unrealistic in the draft, and if they’re high-potential, low-overall prospects those old guys are basically useless. No reason to ever bother looking at them.
Also, every team in the league had at least 10 players 82 overall or higher by the time I stopped simming. In the default rosters, even some good teams have players in the 70s in their top 10. So attribute inflation is a bit of a problem. This was a big reason why budgets were challenging in 2018 IMO. Players wanted bigger contracts because the game made everyone better. There were fewer cheap, mediocre players who were good enough to make a team’s 25-man roster.Comment

I also noticed at one point that the Rays had a total budget north of $200 million. I don’t know what their normal budget is, as I’ve never used them so have no context (my test sim had GM contracts on and I just picked them randomly after getting fired), but that seemed pretty high.

What year did Tampa get to $200 million?≡Comment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Maybe four or five years in?
I won’t be able to check for another six or seven hours at least, and it’s possible I’m mistaken.
I plan on doing more detailed research on how budgets change in the coming days. If the outcome is everyone is basically a big market team, I guess I’ll probably take that over the Yankees and Dodgers struggling to sign free agents.Comment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
I'm sure there will be a cure for inflation (& the common cold) in 2070 so I assume you're talking about the 2070 Brooklyn Rays. It'd take Tampa 3 seasons to spend $200 mil lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Just simmed a season of carryover with osfm. One with real contracts and one with default. The one with default saw more trades and more realistic prospect for vet trades.
Real was more one for one minor league trades or one for one player trade. Quality of the trades was not as good.
New roster see similar results. Does not look like trade engine is tuned to salaries.
