The graphics looks depend on the games engine, resolution of the individual textures, shaders, various anti aliasing techniques etc... Frames per second is how many still images are displayed every second which in turn creates what you perceive as motion. Obviously 60fps (the industry standard) will be smoother than 30. 60+ fps on PC games will be smoother than 60 if your brain can distinguish the difference. From a hardware standpoint, the more intense the scene is (graphically) determines how much hardware power (cpu, gpu, ram) is required to achieve a certain fps. Logic dictates that with consoles having set hardware (much less powerful compared to top of the line PC's) , to achieve and maintain a certain fps, then you have to dumb the graphics down the higher the desired fps is. In a nutshell, that's how it works.

MLB 18 isn’t 100% smooth either. I was kinda shocked when I got it in mid year last year with my PS4. Hadn’t played an MLB The Show game since MLB 14 on the PS3. MLB 12 and 13 are smooth as butter in every way.
18 stutters a lot, but mainly only when you hit foul balls, so it works.Comment

They are aware of the issue

Not that I don’t believe you but when did they acknowledge it?

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
In practice mode (no crowd), there are still frame duplicates in practice mode for batting just like there are in-game, at least for stadiums that exhibit it. I mentioned this earlier. In Home Run Derby (sold out crowd), everything is smooth as silk.
Apparently the crowd doesn't have as much to do with it as we imagined, or at least isn't the only determining factor. I do realize that HRD is essentially completely different in coding, but practice mode might as well be the game without crowd, commentary, or a PA announcer (though a widget can be enabled for you to loop events).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
I would think the developers would strive very strongly for a solid 60 fps when batting.
I do.
I think something was introduced in the animation loop of the game that's causing this.. because blzer said the frames weren't smooth even in batting practice mode with an empty stadium.
I think it's CPU related..Last edited by MLB14; 04-04-2019, 11:42 PM.Do it. (Release The Show for PC)Comment

So I think it's still stadium-related. I just don't know how much the crowd has to do with it. Heck, maybe the seats themselves are as much of the problem as the crowds.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
I think it's stadium-related as well. Been playing mainly RTTS and it's very smooth on "Faster", but the ballparks are also very small and very, very ugly. At times I feel like I'm playing on PS3 when I see some of the textures and 2D-looking objects over the outfield wall on homerun shots.Last edited by jeffy777; 04-05-2019, 12:49 AM.Comment

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
I did a completely non-scientific experiment, playing in all 30 MLB ballparks, and "felt out" their framerates when it comes to pitches coming in on Faster mode. I only did the eye test, and it was playing in each for a very limited time. Every game was a June, 7pm start time (though I did simulate to the 6th inning at times, and nothing changed per park) with clear skies and my custom batting camera based off the Wide preset.
I'm merely going to group it in two tiers: good and bad. Not all of the good are pristine, and some of the bad are significantly worse than others. Hell, there are some in different lists that are closer to each other than they are closer to some in their same list, but I want to start small for now. I did my best, but here's where I'm starting:
Good
- Angel Stadium
- Busch Stadium
- Chase Field
- Dodger Stadium
- Kauffman Stadium
- Marlins Park
- Oakland Coliseum
- Rogers Centre
- T-Mobile Park
- Tropicana Field
Bad
- Citi Field
- Citizens Bank Park
- Comerica Park
- Coors Field
- Fenway Park
- Globe Life Park
- Guaranteed Rate Field
- Miller Park
- Minute Maid Park
- Nationals Park
- Oracle Park
- Oriole Park
- PETCO Park
- PNC Park
- Progressive Field
- SunTrust Park
- Target Field
- Wrigley Field
- Yankee Stadium
Later I will actually capture them at 60 FPS, and figure out how many frames are duplicated in each park during pitches. Then I can do a true sorting, and try and determine if there's a particular reason this is occurring more so in some stadiums and not in others.Last edited by Blzer; 04-05-2019, 04:00 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
