The one game I buy every year regardless. Haven't purchased a game since '19.

Re: OS Roundtable: How You Feeling About MLB The Show 20 Right Now?
Do we have an authentic broadcast fielding camera yet? No? Darn. Purple night skies still as well. Ah well, better than brown.
My yearly wishlist for the past eleven years has been limited to addressing these two things, lol. Someday they'll be addressed. Maybe as we look at PS5 then there is a shot. Their one excuse for no broadcast camera is that a ball can be hit down the lines and disappear into a corner, in which case there are far too many things they can do to remedy this and I hope they realize it.
Am I excited, though? Yes. I'd probably be regardless, though. It's in my nature to be. The problem is I don't play the game as it's designed to play, meaning if something is on or set by default, I normally go about it differently anyway, haha.
One other thing I hope for, since I use Retro fielding cam for offense and defense, is that they add the same camera delay on offense (after contact) that every other fielding camera elicits.
As far as lighting and details on the field like grass and dirt, nothing I want has ever been implemented presentation wise lol. The game looks incredibly archaic with its dated lighting and materials.
I too hope the PS5 can push them over the edge and allow a much better looking game.Comment

It looks as though franchise mode is completely neglected... again, as there's no, "new" tab for at least the second straight year. I can't say its surprising, but I just get a little bit less excited each year when franchise mode is never touched.
I hope that they do one thing... make it so we don't lose our jersey number in Road to The Show constantly. At least do that.Comment

Re: OS Roundtable: How You Feeling About MLB The Show 20 Right Now?
I’ll be buying game on release..but I still haven’t seen any real changes animations or gameplay.
Outfield animations as far as catching ..sliding catch or any others really have not changed in sometime.
Would love some “different” outcomes in that area. You almost know exactly what animation will play out when a ball is hit in a certain area of the outfield.
Cpu engine ..logic I hope is overhauled. Sliding into home plate ..never a collision..or variance .always same slide. I never see collisions in outfield..or “tweeners “ that create havoc between incoming outfielders and outgoing infielders. Just more variations.
Third basemen charging bunts gather ball so close to home plate and then throw backwards at a very odd angle to “second”...very strange
Attributes for baserunning logic as far as aggressiveness on basepaths separate from base stealing.
Also just more choppers beat off the ground that create difficulties for infielders ..
More variety in most every outcome ...
Franchise....I’ll take what ever they give us I guess.Comment

Re: OS Roundtable: How You Feeling About MLB The Show 20 Right Now?
Not to be the downer of the thread or being too negative.
My concern with all of these additions, is what is getting taken out? For the past few years they have taken features out, from Season mode to Online Franchise.
With the additions of team re-branding. Im worried about loosing some spots for alternate uniforms and retro uni's. It took us so long to get to the point where we are at now with the amount of Uni's we do have in the game. I would hate to loose them. Whether to Nike limitations or other added features.
I am concerned with the core of Franchise as well. With MTO getting added features and trade hub or whatever its called. I am worried about the dumbing down of the mode for the masses. I mean I know that the purpose is to get more people to play the game. That I am a dying breed of gamer is obvious and I know change is inevitable. But I would be lying if I didn't say that I had concerns.
Again, I am not trying to be mister negative or jumping on the I hate the wave of the future. Though I do hate the trends towards micro transactions and loot crates and such. But its Capitalism. That's the way things are going to be for a time. Everything is cyclical. But I do have concerns with this Franchise as a whole moving forward.
I am sure I will pick this up eventually. But I will certainly not pre order or pay extra to get it "EArly" (see what I did there) as I do not agree with this business practice at all. I will wait for certain folks here on OS to review gameplay and the modes. Hopefully post some video and such. But the YouTube influences and such are just garbage DD stuff that does not interest me at all. So they do not drive my purchase. If anything they detract from it.
I love and continue to play '19. If this is my last MLB The Show for a good bit, well I could be alright with that.
Imagine this: DD had player cards, RttS had equipment cards, Franchise had quirk cards, where you can add little quirks to each of your players. Example: have a card called "a little more time in the cages" where a player gets a small boost in contact ratings at the cost of a little durability. You could have all sorts of interesting sidegrades that could act as your way of coaching or encouraging specific behavior out of players in your roster.
Player cards could also be spent on creating draft prospects that will mirror the spent cards development path/career.
All of this could be ignored for the purists, but it would drive stub sales and also increase demand on the card market. And the devs would finally have true motivation to improve franchise mode.

Sorry, but noI actually hope they do add microtransactions to franchise. I know, I know, microtransactions are the devil, but it would mean franchise could get some real attention. I can even think of a few really good implementations.

I think we need to accept the fact if franchise mode gets updated it will include micro transactions.

Microtransactions for franchise is better than microtransactions for online. People should be able to cheat themselves all they want, just not others.
The only thing is nothing should come exclusively through microtransactions though, meaning you could earn those same things through time and success without purchasing any.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I can just see it negatively impacting franchise mode the way we want to enjoy it (not including all the ridiculous ads and promotion of DD), even if you think there could be some benefits. I just don't think it would end well IMO. I could be wrong, but that's just how I'm thinking.Comment

yeah, as long as microtransactions are completely optional, there are no doubts in my mind they'd be good for franchise in the long run.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Really good point - also I like your idea of each quirk having both positives and negatives rather than just positives. One thing that bugs me about RTTS and equipment is that there are no compromises in the attributes so you just add the highest level equipment and that’s it.

Plus, The Show has had micro-transactions associated with its franchise mode (with the OPTIONAL sponsorships) for awhile now. Do you need to spend money for them? No...you can earn all the items just by playing. You can also use stubs for extra franchise budget. This year they added the HR calls and other stadium sound effects (which are incredibly fun and incredibly OPTIONAL).
If game devs can find further OPTIONAL means for people to spend cash and help further monetize franchise modes (and make it "worth" improving), I will 100% throw funds at them. Why? Because I'll have spent close to 1000 hours playing a $60 game by the time 20 drops....you can't beat that value.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: OS Roundtable: How You Feeling About MLB The Show 20 Right Now?
After the first two streams, I'm more excited to play '20 due to the gameplay changes, most notably the defensive changes. Anything to continue to separate gold glovers from average to poor defenders is a welcomed addition in my book.
Plus the attention paid to the catchers animations for blocking balls in the dirt as well as the new tag animations at the bases and '20 is shaping up to be a fun game to play in the field, which is a rare thing to say about a baseball video game.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
