I’m just waiting for BestBuy to tell me they don’t have it when I roll in Friday at 10:01 am after I preordered with an in-store pickup ...

A few years ago, I pre-ordered 17, the one with Griffey on the cover, the special edition one from Best Buy's website. They sent me the wrong one. They sent the standard copy even though I paid more for the special edition one. Both the online service after calling and the store refused to replace it or even refund the price difference because they said you run the chance of not getting it. I haven't set foot in Best Buy since and never will.

It's not like you all of the sudden have to come up with the money on the spot to buy the game. It's been known for a few months what tier levels were offered for this game, so you can sit that money aside each month to until you have enough to purchase the version you wish.

At the very least as a fan of the series, or gaming in general, you know its going to cost $60 for the standard copy, so you could have been saving all year since last years game dropped.

Plus you can trade in old games that you're not playing anymore to help reduce the cost.

I will never understand the animosity towards the gaming industry for not only releasing various tier levels of the game at different price points, but also for giving out perks for those that wish to purchase the more expensive versions?

It happens quite often in just about every industry that sells a commodity or a service.

Sorry...just expressing opinion and tossing in my .02 for whatever its worth.
Is it the animosity over the different editions or is it really the fact they boxed out the standard edition group a chance to play early that people are upset about? In the past they included that group for early access. They can make as many editions as they want, does not bother me one bit but putting early access behind a pay wall because they know most will do it seems shallow to me. Just reward all editions with pre-order early access plus the other levels with their extra perks. I thought the goal was to get everyone playing the game? Sometimes I think they forgot how they got to where they are.

How are they excluding anyone from playing the game? It's not like they are pricing out the standard edition ($60) and only selling the MVP and Anniversary Edition at the higher price point.

And they got to where they are by putting out a quality baseball video game that sells to a vast demographic of gamers.

Let me ask you this, how many people have you seen over the years on OS in the When, Where threads pay extra money to get a $60 game early? I've done it and so have many others. They wanted to play the game early so they were willing to hand over additional money and got nothing more than someone who waited, aside from playing early.

I think the game companies got smart in noticing that there was a market of people who were willing to pay extra to play the game early, so they capitalized on that market, which is smart business. And in capitalizing on that market, they added additional perks.

I dont believe most will do it. some, yeah, no doubt.

and what better way to get people playing than an early release to get the word of mouth out about the merits of a purchase. lotta people gonna read the weekend reviews and decide whether or not to purchase on the following standard release Tuesday.

As I’ve said.. it’s a moot point. Buy the $79.99 MVP version from GameStop, Sell your DD codes.

If you think it’s difficult or takes a while, I’ve already sold mine and the game isn’t even out. If you want even more return, the steel book alone can bring upwards of $15-20 (typically you sell the steel book a little later, not at release).

Won’t go into detail but I’m paying standard price for the MVP edition. Stop being upset and look at ways to counteract. That’s how business works.

I'm guessing 90 percent plus of the people buying the MVP or Deluxe versions are doing so for the DD extras.

If you're a franchise-only player, those DD extras aren't worth the extra money. So leaving the standard version out of the early access is just another sign us franchise guys take a backseat to the DD players in the eyes of SCEA. Would have been easy to throw us a bone and include all pre-orders in the early access.

I still pre-ordered. And I won't lose any sleep starting four days later. But it does feel like a slap in the face.

if it weren't for the steelbook and cap, I'd have zero reason to not wait till the 17th. next year they're gonna have to start throwing in a free shirt too lol

I have a feeling that this is a Sony decision and not an SDS decision. The practice of granting early access to those who preorder more expensive editions of the game is not uncommon in the gaming world these days.

Way too many glitches on launch for this game. Debating if I should wait for the first patch. Last year they had a pitcher stutter.

Staggered release dates don't just serve as an excuse to charge more money. They also act as a buffer to prevent too much server load on day one.

One of the big issues with online games is that you have to try and predict how much server resources you need. But day 1 demand will always exceed well beyond what is actually needed. Day 1 may need 2 or 4 times more server resources then their next worse day.

Companies understandably don't want to waste time and money setting up a system that's only going to be important for a few days at most. It's bad for the company, bad for the economy, bad for the environment, and in a way, bad for the consumer, as all that extra cost would eventually find it's way back to us (either in the form of more expensive games or in the form of lower quality games as less investment goes towards development).

A staggered release is, by comparison, a better solution.

I pre-ordered the MVP edition. It's a birthday gift from my wife.

I have never once played DD or online games. Strictly franchise. I never have gotten the game early.

The way I see it, I get to start playing this weekend as opposed to getting it next Tuesday and waiting for next weekend to play.

The biggest reason is I can see which Minor League Pitchers are in the game and start working on their Pitch Edits. :-) LOL.... I know, but I can't help it...

I have never played DD or online either but I pre-ordered for $79.99 because I'm off on Friday the 13th and can play all day long. I have been able to get the game early before I had to drive 2 hours south to LA to get it so the $20 more that I spend is what I would have spent on gas alone. Not to mention the 4 hour round trip. I'd like to know how to profit from the DD codes as well.
