Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread

Picked up game this morning...had some Minor problems but they were operator issues.
Being able to upload my 19 roster to 20 was fabulous...I then exported and imported my created players to the new 20 roster. ( still in the process)

I don’t actually play game the conventional way ..I Cpu Cpu games manage ..create ect.

So that being said...The game runs very smooth I play Broadcast -Normal- no stuttering colors are sharp.

My biggest wow comes for me with the fielding. Lots of work has been done in this area.
I have noticed it more in the infield play- seeing subtle but definitely new animations that sustain immersion and sinks me deeper into the moment.

I bought the Anniversary edition ( always have purchased the standard) and I’m still learning how to work packs ect..getting great perks with HR animations and sound ..love it.

Anyway lots to do in way of beginning season...If anyone was on the fence about buying game don’t be.

    It’s worth it!

      PROS:

+ Very polished. Everything looks and feels better than ever.
      + Animations are amazing.
+ New score bugs and replay transitions are groovy. Love the emphasis on exit velo too.
+ Solid framerate on the PS4 Pro with only a few occasional hiccups on cutscenes or foul balls, but definitely smoother than last year.
+ Love the new perfect/perfect hitting. Feels and sounds INCREDIBLE!
+ Hit variety is really good. Ball really seems to bounce more realistically on the infield especially.
+ AI pitching seems improved. Last year I felt that they didn’t mix it up enough location-wise.
+ Love the ball indicator post-pitch this year with the pitch type/speed. Looks really cool imo.
+ Throwing meter changes are great.
+ R3 to quickly view the shift and fielder ratings is a great new feature.
      + Customizable PCI
+ New commentary lines are welcome additions.

      CONS:

      - Forced to push L2 to view the lineup/defense is a pain in the arse. Don’t understand the reasoning here.
      - Jagged foul lines are still there. Hopefully the PS5 will finally remedy this.
      - Franchise is the same, and no online franchise (we knew this).
      - No online co-op (again we knew this, but still disappointing when Super Mega Baseball has it).
      - Intro was meh, even as a Cubs fan.

Overall, it looks and feels great and I’m having a blast so far. I haven’t really dove into any modes other than Play Now yet, but the general gameplay and presentation is fantastic.

Played just a couple of games, and was honestly blown away.

The game feels superrrr smooth this year. Last year I really enjoyed the gameplay but felt there were too many times you were reminded it was a video game.

The sound off the bat is the big winner this year. It sounds perfect. The pitching feels crisper and the hitting is more responsive.

        I’m very into this already!

I played some practice and a couple of games, and I'm very impressed. This is the send off that MLB The Show series deserves before nextgen.

I noticed a few irregularities with ump's decisions. On 2 occasions, the umpire's decision is shown before the play is over.

          1) A pitcher bunts toward 3B. While the third baseman is getting to throw to 1B, the out is already shown in the score panel.

          2) A batter hits a ground ball that's hugging the sidelines toward 3B. The ball went out of bounds before the 3B. However, the 3B umpire already called the ball out before ball got the base, while still rolling inside the line.

These are not deal breakers by any means, but it was a bit off-putting when I noticed them.

You can now Player Lock from the 1st inning of the game whether you are on offense or defense. I have been waiting 6 Years for this.

It may be a bug because you cannot change the "Watch All" CPU teammates hitting toggle. I might not have gotten those 250 base running animations but this is pretty high up there for me.

I turned off my internet connection and will skip all updates incase it gets removed.

Finally I can enjoy my Player Lock season even more!

lotta closers on the default roster

intro was heavy on Javy, figured there'd be a lot of different players

Really disappointed that playoff eligibility was never changed. Still states that "to be eligible for playoffs need to be on il or active roster as of Sept.1."

The real rule is on the 40 man roster by aug 31.

Salaries for closers are 5-7 million range. Needs to be adjusted. Lower than last year. I've turned budgets off to get more realistic trades.

Transferred my franchise over just to hear the commentary. Wow, they are fast in and out of conversations, great context and high leverage strike outs or hits are treated with enthusiam got'em. And,the graphics have improved not 10 fold, but they are sharper player models look very good and the sound of the bat it's real nice. They have updated dodger stadium so pretty.

Thanks for the explanation. That’s fantastic baseball logic and it’s implemented very well. I’m a living example of this. I’m swinging at sliders that are much closer to hitting the man on deck than my bat! No wonder the AI keeps throwing me sliders that aren’t even in the same zip code as the ball patk.

Hats off to you guys! I’m glad I spent the 100 dollars. Well earned

Just wanted to say thank you for posting here, and for giving us this amazing game!

                        More impressions:

Crowd improvements are really nice. My buddy and I were just talking the other day how it’d be nice to see a little more life/variety there and that’s exactly what we got this year. Nicely done.

Fielding feels so much more fluid this year, and the diving animations seem less hitchy than in the past.

Gloves look really good. The colored laces seem to pop and stand out more. Same for shoes.

Dunno if it’s just placebo, but even the hair/beards seem to look more detailed than before. Maybe the lighting and color tweaks make stuff like this stand out. Not sure, but I just know everything looks better than ever.

After the rosters get fixed I'm probably going to reduce some potentials and reduce the number of starters. Four and 5 years in rotations are full of 80 plus starters with some in pen.

                            QUESTION:

Are the passed balls / wild pitches toned down this year? (In 19 they were horrendously overblown).

I'll be getting the game Tuesday - appreciate in advance! Thanks!

The gameplay, for me is the best it has ever felt. Very polished.

Visually it looks better than ever.

Really my only negatives at this point are:
                              - The equipment options are underwhelming for me. There’s options in the cleats that are rarely used.

Would like more options for elbow and leg protectors.

                              - While most of the ballparks look fantastic, there are a couple than need some attention. Busch Stadium is a beautiful park but the outfield signs in the backdrop need love. I avoid playing night games there because it’s so dark in the backdrop.

Pros: Way too many to list. The game play is fantastic.

Cons: The only complaint is that when you are in Franchise and you are looking at the daily games in the calendar it does not show the teams win/loss record.

I've played 4 games so far and I have not seen a wild pitch or passed ball.
