Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
Sure...but I mean, I'm not seeing the issues at the default settings (though I fully acknowledge my pitch speed settings are making it harder to get to around on the few FBs I DO see that are in the zone). That's the part that perplexes me.
Though I reckon some folks are a tad more disciplined than I am (whether by virtue of skill or use of an 'easy' camera angle; or a combination thereof). The CPU will stop nibbling if you lay off of those pitches and it may be forcing them to throw more pitches in the zone. I'm fooled enough on outside pitches that they keep going to that well...and I suspect that has tampered-down on things a fair bit.
User ability, sliders (and I don't think you can take just anyones sliders as they may not be a fit for you) and patience. Patience to practice out of franchise mode for several games and see what the fit is.Comment

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
Where it gets tricky with adjusting sliders is the 'counterpoint'. If you lower human power, does the CPU throw more pitches in the zone (i.e. they don't "fear" you as much)? I looked at this a bit last year and that was exactly what started to happen...lowering the user sliders often changed the AI's approach, which then lead to the opposite outcome from what you were trying to achieve (which could lead one to make further tweaks that further compound the issues).
In the past I have always gotten 'expected' results from tweaking human power and human solid hits, or at least I thought so. I'm going to have to keep your theory in mind going forward.
FWIW right now I have CPU power -1 and human power -2. The jury is still out.Comment

Josh - I have read many of your posts and respect you as a member of the OS community. But I can't wrap my head around the CPU being robust enough to keep track of the level of human hittng sliders and modifying it's behavior to reflect that.

So moving sliders around to effect outcomes will change how the CPU pitches.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
All I'm saying is this - never assume that a slider change only affects what you were attempting to change. Pay attention to the other elements of the game as well (not the stats - stats are the biggest liar of them all...but the behaviors). But if you see something you don't like after making a change....don't make another change right away, consider what has changed behavior-wise that may have resulted in the undesired effect. A lot of times, the best solution is to revert it back and try something different.
I've grown to be very deliberate in making changes (perhaps too deliberate), particularly with this game. But I've had two month long stretches of very similar outcomes within a franchise (and I play every game) suddenly shift gears as things regress to the mean.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
I don't think they're tracking the sliders. The CPU tracks outcomes. If you keep swinging at pitches out of the zone, the CPU keeps throwing them. If you never swing at the first pitch, the CPU will start throwing more first pitch strikes, if you're making weak contact on certain pitches, they'll throw more of those pitches. And so on.
So moving sliders around to effect outcomes will change how the CPU pitches.

It's the reason why changing pitch speeds is the number 1 best change for user hitting even though it doesn't directly affect AI. You alter a user's ability to read/react to a pitch...get to a point where you're dying on the edge....they'll throw more on the edge.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
Yeah to reiterate the CPU pitch logic is awful this year. I have been tracking the pitch location for the CPU when I have a man on 1st wiht 0 outs or 1 out (an obvious double play) and they will consistently throw high, with maybe 1 or 2 low pitches at bat.
For example I just had a man on first after a walk, the CPU threw 4 straight high pitches, 2 for balls, 1 for a strike and the 4th I hit for a single. Now with 2 men on and 0 outs still I track the 3rd at bat. 2 high pitches in a row, both balls. The 3rd for a strike dead center in the zone. The 4th finally low and away for a ball and the 5th a pitch dead center for a hit.
This is on HOF hitting, with pitcher control slider for the CPU turned up 1 (to no avail obviously).
The CPU pitch logic needs to be addressed. They are throwing high in the zone changeups, sinkers sliders, you name it, in situations that do not call for it.Last edited by Vercingetirex; 03-30-2020, 10:06 PM.Comment

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
I just had the best series of totals for hits and hr. I use legend zone hitting. I turned human contact down one notch. Human pitch consistency up 1 notch, cpu power down 2 and infield throwing errors up 1.
Scores
3-1 loss I had 5 hits 1 hr cpu 1 hr
5-3 win. 6 hits each 0 hr
5-3 win 8 hits 2 hr for me 9 hits 1 hr for them
Hoping these sliders work. Great games. See some infield throwing errors too. I've been playing the heck out if this game and really do love the way it plays. Getting hr totals down is clutch.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
I swear, this thread is like the Twilight Zone to me...it's SO contrary to what I've been seeing. I'm actually hitting fewer HRs than I did last year so far.
I'm running on directional, clean-screen, AS default with just pitch speed adjustments (7 FB/6 OS) and I am not seeing any issues at all across three different franchises (using three different roster 'bases').
I'm not saying this to be condescending or dismissive of others' concerns, but I just genuinely don't understand the extreme disparity of outcomes.
I think the difference may be you are using directional. I think the offense/homerun spike is being seen under zone hitting.

I use directional on Hall of Fame and I have 44 homers through my first 18 games. That’s the most in the Majors obviously, by far.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
Did 3 games today and most runs were off of homers and maybe 1 sac fly plus over 80 foul balls per AB.
First Game A's 14, Twins 5 (all homers)
Second Game Yankees 10, Blue Jays 1 (all runs were off of homers)
Third Game Red Sox 8, White Sox 4 (1 sac fly)
I guess it's the new norm.Proud season ticket holder for the Oklahoma City ThunderComment

So much for that theory. Although I believe it may have been worse for you had you been on zone.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.
Just played my first 2 games after the patch....white sox vs red sox in my franchise. (im the white sox) All star pitching and hitting. was having close realistic games up until the patch. first game of the series i won 12-11 teams hit a combined 8 home runs.
Game 2: im currently in the top of the 8th score is 20-10 I have hit 6 homers and the cpu has hit 8. Plus no matter how i pitch to their hitters if its not a home run its a solid base hit. Its gotten a bit out of hand. never experienced anything like this in all my years playing the show.Comment
