    Re: CPU Bullpen Management

With my sliders at SP-1, RP-6, Hook-0, I've been watching a lot of cpu v cpu. To save time, I use live rosters and place players using the same criteria. I used SP with similar OVR and STA. I've got 1 LR, 4 MR 2 SU 1 Closer. Bullpen: Highest clutch RP in SU1, highest lefty w/ a slider or next highest clutch righty in SU2. MR 1 thru 4 rinse and repeat. Lineups: sort by discipline, move top 3 POW up or down into 3,4, & 5.

I've seen SP go just past their STA if losing, and i've seen 100+ pitches if winning. More often than not, managers will let their starter finish out their last inning. Thus far I've only seen 1 game that a starter got pulled mid inning. He was losing and walked a couple, so it was warranted.

If leading, I often see MR2 as 1st reliever in. If losing it's been a pretty even split between MR1 and MR3. I've only seen a RP go more than 1 IP when losing or when up by 3+. Lefty relievers will get brought in more often than not if a LH batter is up 1st, or if 2 of the 1st 3 batters are lefties.

Reading boxscores is one thing, but watching the pen play out and agreeing with the moves is a great feeling.
Edit: the above is Sim only, actual play, I'd bump SP up to at least 4 to start out. Its what I did last year.

        CPU Reliever Stamina= 8
        CPU Manager Hook= 2

For whatever reason, after the 5th inning, the CPU doesn't bring in the Long Releiver (which is good)

5th-7th inning, they use the highest rated MRP and then the second highest, and so on, UNLESS the highest rated one has depleted stamina, then it moves down the list.

in the 8th inning, it uses the Highest rated SU pitcher...unless his stamina is depleted, then it uses the other SU pitcher.

Also, keep in mind, that I work the count a lot, and I draw a lot of walks, so even with the CPU stamina sliders that high, starters and relievers get gassed....But, keeping CPU starters in games past the 5th inning is key to not seeing them bring in the LRP too much.
ktd bud, you still getting good results with these settings?

And I forget, you use the above for games played and simming?

          And again, I forget, sorry...

But you slot the MR and SU by highest overall rating or highest clutch?

Still getting pretty good results. Though I still see LRP's being put into games in situations where MRP's should be put in, such as tie games in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings, but this isn't completely unrealistic.

Sim games are still getting good results. I'm seeing teams use ALL their middle relievers, for an inning apiece, occasionally 2.

MR and SU pitchers are slotted by highest Overall. Same with LRP (If teams have more than one)

I'm wondering, to help SU get used more... If I were to go with this option what would happen?

              8 man pen:
              LR (Highest STA guy)
              LR (4th overall MR)
              MR (Highest overall MR)
              MR (2nd SU)
              MR (2nd overall MR)
              MR (3rd overall MR)
              SU
              CL

                MR (2nd overall MR)
                MR (3rd overall MR)
                SU
                CL
If I were to adjust to this, I'd put highest STA 3rd or 4th MR in LR2. In theory, you still want LR to be able to toss 2+ innings (closest to 30+ STA).

If your SP all regularly go 6 IP+ per game, the likelihood you'd NEED two LRP decreases, so if you want SU2 to get more work, sure stash a worse MR in LR2 and juggle the pen.

All in all, the only way to know is running weeks of tests with a few teams to learn that setups dynamics with the sliders you're using.

The only problem with slotting the bullpens is when you put the other 29 teams on auto, don't they realign the bullpens?
