With my sliders at SP-1, RP-6, Hook-0, I've been watching a lot of cpu v cpu. To save time, I use live rosters and place players using the same criteria. I used SP with similar OVR and STA. I've got 1 LR, 4 MR 2 SU 1 Closer. Bullpen: Highest clutch RP in SU1, highest lefty w/ a slider or next highest clutch righty in SU2. MR 1 thru 4 rinse and repeat. Lineups: sort by discipline, move top 3 POW up or down into 3,4, & 5.
I've seen SP go just past their STA if losing, and i've seen 100+ pitches if winning. More often than not, managers will let their starter finish out their last inning. Thus far I've only seen 1 game that a starter got pulled mid inning. He was losing and walked a couple, so it was warranted.
If leading, I often see MR2 as 1st reliever in. If losing it's been a pretty even split between MR1 and MR3. I've only seen a RP go more than 1 IP when losing or when up by 3+. Lefty relievers will get brought in more often than not if a LH batter is up 1st, or if 2 of the 1st 3 batters are lefties.
Reading boxscores is one thing, but watching the pen play out and agreeing with the moves is a great feeling.
Edit: the above is Sim only, actual play, I'd bump SP up to at least 4 to start out. Its what I did last year.
