Stellar, aside from having some kind of commentary glitch (as in none.. not that I care, I won't miss the guys laughing at me when I go fishing)

.. not getting any commentary on 20 either, which I find weird considering it is 'enhanced'.
Potentially dumb question - is the rest of the game still downloading/installing? I ask because I have no commentary issues on 20, but on '15 while I was playing the introductory game between the Royals and Giants (and while the full game was still downloading) I didn't have commentary - execpt for a voiceover of Matt explaining 15's new features.

If it's still downloading and installing you'll only be able to play one specific game until the full download finishes, and that one game will be extremely feature-limited.

thanks, that is awesome. and 85% of my games are with commentary off anyways, so that wouldn't bug me personally

        No, all 4 fully installed.

Sounds like it wants to spit audio out. There are brief gaps (dead air) where Matt would usually chime in. All other voice modes play fine (stands, on-field, ect)

.. not surprised I had issues with the older versions. But 20?

Might have an issue with my soundbar. Need to find out if the PS5/MLBtS works with Atmos or not. May have to turn that off. Thats my only suspect right now.

Re: MLB The Show 20 PS5

First attempt at going into MLB '15 in player lock (to see the RTTS - style camera view), at MMP hardlocked my PS5. As in, forced me to hold the power button in until it shut off. Oops. Once it got going again I tried to just start a game normally at MMP. Same thing. And that's good enough for me to understand why they put that compatibility warning up when you start the game. And it also pretty much ends my test of seeing how '15 would run.

Odd that the introductory game would play through fine, but that it would break THAT badly once the game fully installed.

So, yeah....don't go back before '16 or '17 I guess, since Madden08PCgmr isn't having anything worse than audio problems.

And I did load up '20 again after this to make sure THAT didn't break too....it's fine.

I know what you're referring to, but that doesn't specifically have to do with the game's framerate. Little occasional hitches and stutters will happen from time to time in online play that ding the framerate, but I'm going to assume you mean the short pause on bat-to-ball contact, and the ball appearing to slow down from the pitcher's perspective. Those are both tied to the same concept in the game - giving the batter a fair chance to have an offline-like hitting experience. While the pitch is appearing to slow down from the pitcher's side, the pitch data is being sent to the batter's console so it can come out looking the same speed as it would offline. Then, if the batter makes contact that quick pause happens while the game syncs both players back up for fielding and baserunning. That means latency (lag) is, much, much less of a factor than it would otherwise be for hitting. The effect of both of these is also a lot less obvious when both players have fast, stable internet connections. None of that has to do with framerate at all - it's just the way the game is designed.

Trust me, having played some older baseball games online....you do NOT want to play a baseball game that involves the hitter having to deal with lag. It's not a very fun experience.

One other thing that I'm really enjoying about the game on PS5 is that I can finally watch the replays with a smooth frame rate. I'd usually skip most of the replays bc of how much they would stutter. But not anymore! I can finally watch them in all their glory [emoji3526]

Re: MLB The Show 20 PS5

My PS5 came today. Played a little bit of Astros Playroom, which is amazing. Played the intro to Miles Morales, which is amazing. The Show is still downloading but I was able to fire up the intro Nats/Astros game. Changed the video settings to HDR on, and Sharper mode.

HOLY CRAP! This is what I always wanted the Show to be. 4K and running 60fps, I'm honestly blown away. This feels like an entirely new game for me. On PS4 Pro, even when running the game in Faster mode I'd still see a bunch of framerate hiccups. On PS5 in Sharper, wow is this game smooth as heck. This is exactly what I was hoping for, wow I'm so excited lol.

I guess I should wait until the full game is installed and I play games at a bunch of parks to see how the game runs. But if all the parks run like Nats Park is running for me in this intro game, this is amazing. Mlb the show, PS5, and my new OLED. This is gaming heaven.

The first full game I'm trying is an exhibition. I'm using the Sox at home at the G Spot against Cleveland. Its a night game in September, and this truly looks awesome. The framerate is so good too.

One graphic glitch I'm seeing when I'm batting. The graphics on your batter's shoes go in and out, looks glitchy.

But yea this plays so smooth and looks so good. Loving this so much.

Yep, that's the only thing I've ever noticed too is the glitch on the shoes. Can be a little distracting sometimes but nothing that's awful or anything. Glad you're enjoying it!

                        Hi Guys,

So, no PS5 version of the show until next Spring correct? I don't have PS5 yet, its been so hard to get one, but I was thinking about getting Show 20 PS4 for now and you can still play on PS5 correct? and I am hearing its another level as far as graphics go with PS5?

There is no next-gen version of MLB '20, so yes, '21 will be the first actual PS5 MLB game. We don't have a release date yet - and to be 100% accurate, it hasn't been announced for anything yet but it seems extremely likely there will be a PS5 version.

You can play MLB '20 on PS5 through backward compatibility, and the improvements over playing it on PS4 are twofold. First, the 4K "Sharper" in-game setting now actually runs at a playable speed, so you're going to get a graphics improvement over what was reasonably possible with the PS4. But the bigger one for me personally is that the game now runs at or very close to 60 frames per second at all times (even at that 4K Sharper setting), including cutscenes and the like - not just gameplay. This is huge because even the PS4 Pro suffered from in-gameplay framedrops at times in certain stadiums and conditions - let alone the close-up shots and things where it really chugged, or RTTS while you're in the field - but now it's just butter smooth across the whole game. It makes it feel like a new experience, even though it's really not.

I don't really understand what you mean with the last line - compared to actual PS5 games it's obviously inferior-looking graphically. But it's definitely an improvement to how it performs on the base PS4 or even the Pro.

Thanks for the input, I have base ps4, I skipped this year but right now Target is selling at $9.99 so I am going to get it. Can't wait to try on ps5 when I can get it hopefully soon

For $10 you can't lose. I also went from base PS4 to PS5 and it's quite a performance upgrade for The Show in terms of adding 4k and, more importantly, eliminating frame rate issues. Fielding in particular is much smoother visually. Once you have it on PS5, be sure to set it to "sharper" in The Show settings to enable 4k output.
