Re: The Future of Franchise Mode in MLB The Show 21 and Beyond

It seems clear the developers are running full speed toward people who play online vs other opponents - thus the cross platform play.

They have made great strides over the years in franchise but I don't see franchise getting much attention this year. No carry saves is a clue.

Both are pretty bad. Especially when you consider that NCAA on ps2 had trophy cases that updated and an offseason that felt important.

I still think both games underestimate the importance of the UI for franchise players -- it's where you'll be a lot...

I still disagree with this. It suits gaming companies to make us believe we are a niche consumer because it makes their pursuit of micro transactions easier to justify without having to admit they’re just driven by greed. You only needed to look at the Facebook page for SDS after asking for franchise questions to see how many were posted.

I can’t think of many significant franchise improvements for years. The radio show was probably the last big feature addition in my view and that’s been in need of additional content for a while. That said franchise mode holds up because it’s solid although no longer spectacular.

Franchise mode on The Show has definitely held up for me. It does take some work (30 team control) to get the most out of it. But it is long over due for some TLC we all agree on that.

There have been more updates since the Radio Show though.

              Player Quirks

              Player Morale

              In-Season Contract Extensions

Three (now just two....still ticks me off the third theme was removed) presentation themes

Lot’s of quality of life improvements for Sounds of the Show which is a major franchise feature BTW. Really cranks up the immersion factor.

Expanded Statistics (sabermetric stats came in....I think on 16 or 17?)

They finally did some under the hood logic tuning to the CPU on MLB 20 when running a fantasy draft. They draft a lot better now and fill up the position players properly.

So there have been small incremental updates.

The one I did not like though was the new UI with Phases which was introduced on MLB 18. It took away the daily recap screen which was awesome to scroll through while listening to the Radio Show. Lot’s of information right there in that one screen. Gone. Huge design decision FAIL.

But yeah.....we have talked about plenty in this thread that we would all like to see done.

I expect absolutely none of it on 21 BTW. Nothing on our lists. I think that is very unwise hope. It typically takes 2-3 cycles to see real improvement in any manner. From gameplay to franchise updates. Been this way every console generation.

However they committed probably all of their real resources to Build A Stadium which looks like it will be impressive for PS5. So those folks who wanted that should be thrilled. Also there looks like there will be some new depth chart screens and updated player intros.....wonder what the will look like.

I pray they did not go in the Madden direction in that regard (player intros). Please....no. The presentation on Madden 21 blows.....like really sucks. They even took out player intros on Madden 21 (miffed) and went away from a TV style presentation package to something you would see in a Fortnite game. Seriously crap. Shame too. Because I really love playing the game itself this year (Madden 21).

Did that Facebook post ever go anywhere? I never saw any post providing answers to those questions.

Yeah the presentation changes scare me a little. at least now we have a choice of broadcast, which I love but I am sick to death of "Flat out Heidi' telling me my manager is flat out happy with my at bats even though I have 1 hit in 5 innings with 0 runs... and we can't skip her!! yet the dam lineup screen never comes up now because 9 times out of 10 I never think to hit L2 to show it.. that should just come up on it's own!! go along with the missing presentation cut to 2 nw. That is really annoying! SO i fear that is the beginning of the end of presentation. And for the love of god.. can the commentators stop talking about AVG and ERA meaning EVERYTHING!! 'oh he has a ERA of over 5 he isn't going good' even if he has pitched 1 game or.. 'his AVG is low struggling' yet they don't look that someone like a Carlos Santana would have a OBP of 320.. we are in 2021 now analytics are all about baseball, those mainstream stats don't get talked about.

Back in the day madden 93 would show highlights of close games in the playoffs remember that?? it would actually interrupt your game and show the last 2 mins of a close game and you could watch!! we are talking madden 93 here a sega genius game! Imagine what they could do today and for those that don't want it have a option not to have it.. imagine in the middle of the 7th inning stretch 'we now go to the 9th innings of this tied ball game between X and X' and then it shows you the final inning then goes back to your game. how awesome would that be?? or a quick highlights of games that are close. All this stuff is possible

I like that create a stadium is in. but I would have liked to see more franchise stuff that is more important in the real world. like expanded rosters. schedule changes the playoff roster bugs year after year. Injury rehabs (please update the damm injuries!! a broken fingernail. ??? LOL) we don't have enough common injuries on there it's someone breaking a arm sliding into 3rd base which never happens. there are not injuries like Broken Thumb or UCL tear. when we see someone out 1 to 2 months. it be great to have injury rehab so a player might come back early. all might have a setback (every yankess player) and be out the full 2 months.

anyway I can go on with ideas. but sadly we will only get 1 thing added to franchise each year. and I think this year that is all to do with stadiums and that is their 'selling point' with franchise and that will be all we see.

Yeah, wasn’t the biggest fan of the L2 button implementation. Was it really that hard to press X to skip a presentation feature in the first place?

No kidding, I really hope that L2 thing is gone in 21... I love seeing lineups and defense but 95% I forget to press the damn trigger.

                      So dumb.

MOVE THOSE CHAINS (You don't like seeing that after EVERY first down? LOL)

I do miss the lineup and defensive alignments automatically appearing as part of the presentation; like others, I often forget to press L2 to trigger the scene to play out.

One thing I'm really surprised we dont have yet, is custom draft classes... Weird that The Show is the only one out of The Show, 2k and Madden that doesnt have this.

I for one would LOVE custom draft classes, I love the MLB draft.
