For the expanded rosters, this would have been a great year to at least put that in the PS5 version. Now is the time to do it with the new alignment of the MLB minors. Just give us the single high A team. It would have set the mode up for next year to have Y2K.

It is a nice start for them but they should have given franchise more attention for the next gen game.
Schedule generation is one of the hardest things to do correctly. Now, with that being said.. a company the size and caliber of SDS should have resolved this by now.

Your way is one way it could work, ideal? No, not really.. but good lord, it would be way better than nothing at all.

I would personally create schedule templates and go from there. I’m guessing their current schedule generation logic would have to be completely redone since it isn’t setup for inter league rotation. That would absolutely take quite a bit of time and resource but at this point, it’s a joke it hasn’t taken priority.

If they don’t have anyone that knows how to do this or can dedicate to it, I agree, hire someone that can.

They didn't mention online franchise at all which has led some people to speculate it isn't in the game. At least not in the next-gen version.

        Not at all!

I'll just be spending the bulk of my franchise time on MLBTS20.

The Depth Chart thing is a load of crap. It reminds me way too much of when Baseball Mogul unveiled a "depth chart". Oh, I can't do anything other than look at it? Great. Unless I can actually select my preferred players at specific positions and have it, say, move Nolan Jones from 3B to LF, then what's the point? I can create an Excel spreadsheet to project my MLB roster in three years if that's what I want without surrendering the resources that could be better used to create a more realistic draft system, player progression/regression, etc..

Though, I do like the trade/player logic and WAR based value things could be huge. While they seem small on the surface, I think down the road it could prove as a great building block. While, it currently is easy to trade for players, I had a case that had me scratching my head.

It's July and in a contract year for a good, but not great SP on a rebuilding club. Their ask was my #1 and close-to-ready star prospects plus another further off, solid prospect. For two months??? I thought that ask was crazy. The SP wasn't traded, he wasn't given a QO, and I then signed him scot-free in the off-season. From what they said on the stream, a player like this would have a much more realistic and appropriate asking price.

However, I think MLB 22 will be the big test. Were these smaller changes monumental in how the CPU manages in Franchise? Did they build off of this? Are they giving us Y2Y saves back?

With the Stadium Creator, defensive overhaul, and tweaks the Franchise, I'd say this is a 55/45 for next-gen (with the deciding factor likely being how tied you are to your current Franchise) and 40/60 for PS4.

The depth chart will be interactive. You can move players and click on the players on that screen.

There are a lot of added features with the trade logic and all that. Question is, can they get it right and utilize them correctly? They said they simmed 30 seasons so we will see.

Yeah, 22 needs to be a big step forward. They would have a full year of the PS5 out and hopefully post-Covid. Time to put their money where their mouth is.

I still haven’t got to watch the whole stream. I was curious if it was mentioned if there would be 7 inning double headers in franchise, since those are built into the schedule this year. I’m kind of wondering how they’ll deal with those since we’ve never had double headers in the game before.

There aren't any pre-scheduled double-headers. MLB kept the 7 inning doubleheaders in case there are cancellations due to COVID (like what happened with the Nats/Mets series). And since The Show doesn't do rainouts or cancellations due to COVID, I'm assuming they won't have any 7 inning doubleheaders.

I've gotta say, after only reading the comments in this thread, I was irritated because of that sense of "here we go again" with franchise mode. After finally having time to sit down and watch the video, I'm far more encouraged.

While I feel there are some quality of life changes that should have been added by now (staff edits, rotating schedules, expanded stat, award, and record tracking, etc), and execution remains to be seen, of course, I do feel like this is the first time in a LONG while where I can see a vision and foundation for moving franchise mode forward.

I'm still going to probably sit out 21 (certainly early on, at least), as I haven't been able to snag a next gen console yet and am invested in my 20 franchise, but I do feel a bit more positive about where the mode could head if these changes work as advertised.

And this is unfortunate, because personally, if I knew that y2y was coming back in 22, I would buy 21 and start a new franchise knowing I could carry it over to 22.

As it is, I’ll just keep rolling with my franchise in 20. The stadium creator is actually really appealing to me because I’m currently in a rebranded team franchise and I love everything about my logo, colors, uniforms, etc .... I just hate playing in “Old Texas” because I can’t bring myself to play major league games in a minor league stadium and Old Texas is the one with the least amount of team specific branding during gameplay.

Has anyone notices in these videos what the state of play is with branding on create a stadium? What I mean is, adding adverts and sponsors to outfield walls and team logos to areas of the stadium so that it has personality, rather than being blank and generic looking?

I believe you can take items from existing MLB ballpark's and add them into the created ballpark ie. Coke Bottle and such.

I think he meant more advertisement and team-specific branding, which I’m also interested in. I don’t believe we’ve seen any of this, which leads me to believe it may not be there.

With the amount of advertisements and team-specific branding in a typical MLB stadium, I’m afraid it would make the created stadiums feel like they’re missing some life if every surface is blank.

I’m sure we’ll see more on Thursday, if not in a blog or trailer before then.

This stream did not move me from not buying 21, but I am intrigued for the future. At the very least, franchise looks like it's getting tinkered with. Will it end up in the same spot? Better? Worse? Obviously I don't know. But they seem to be giving it some attention, which is "some" more than the past several years.

If Y2Y saves were in, I'd be getting 21. I'm not overly impressed, but this game always improves every year, even if it's little things, to justify the purchase.

MLB20 is still my favorite game and I will continue my Indians franchise, it's just a bummer to not look forward to picking up The Show for the first time in over a decade.
