Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread

Playing RTTS and it went to extra innings. My player hit a go ahead 3 run bomb in the top of the 10th and as he got to first base, he turned to the dugout, flexed, and was making motions for them to get hyped. It was the coolest thing and was something new that just added to the authenticity of the emotions players show in big moments.

Franchise gameplay (PS4) for anyone who may want to see gameplay and on the fence about buying the game tomorrow or not. This is default Legend with zone hitting and meter pitching.

And please ignore the 9th inning. As you can see there were bugs and I had to swat at them...

Sorry the first part is missing, I didn't realize I hit record instead of broadcast.

I went ahead and got the JR edition on both PS5 and Series X even though it is on Game Pass but wanted to show love to the team at SSD.

The game this year is not going to have the graphical upgrade over NBA2K21 and Madden did with their next gen updates but the game does look very good with the high resolution 4k and butter smooth 60fps during gameplay as it does dip a lot during cutscenes and camera cuts to around 45fps based on my OLED info screen on series X as i cannot test it on PS5 since it does not offer VRR or Freesync support.

The combination of 60fps gameplay and 4k details plus the great lighting makes this an excellent visual upgrade but not the next gen update we hoped.

In terms of gameplay the game plays very similar to years past but some of the biggest issues I had are gone. The suction fielding in the outfield is much improved and hit variety along with swing animations are much improved.

Playing on PS5 which is 4k 60hz on my 120hz panel gives me 13.6 ms of input lag which is great for a tv but not ideal for twitch games like the show or FPS.

One of the biggest reasons for getting it on the X was that you can natively output the game at 4k 120hz which lowers input lag to 5.2ms which is a huge difference and better then most monitors. Hitting and pitching feels super responsive at this level even though it feels great as well on PS5

The dual sense is not a big deal in terms of the game but it has nice touches when hitting and fielding. I just wish it did a better job of using it but still is nice.

In terms of differences in PS5 and Series X I did not see any graphical differences except it seems series X is using a bit better AA option but is not easily something to notice unless you go back and forth.

To me the biggest difference is that input lag numbers which are critical in these type of games.

I did notice on both versions that the menus and into screens all look low rez compared to the actual game which looks 4k.

The game is much improved on the field except the pitching to me needs to be improved as it feels outdated by now and I wish when pitching it felt more heavy and pitches did not feel floaty. Hitting is amazing and fielding as well.

I think SSD did a great job this year with improvements and we can look forward to next year having better visuals and hope that PS5 by that time offers VRR which is super important

I thought the new software update for PS5 offered 120hz HDR

under video output - enable 120hz output. set to Auto.

Does The Show not support this feature?

              Nice video. Question for you:

Are you having issues with contact/ perfect contact bat sounds when your playing the game? It doesn't appear that way on your video.

Countryboy: In your video, correct me if I'm wrong, but Yadi is wearing a generic chest protector instead of a Jordan even though Jordan is a brand in the game correct? I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to go through every player and change the equipment this year.

Just an FYI to people who are having HDR issues since it pops up so much here.

If you have all the setting right and it's still too dark or washed out, it's very likely it's your TV. Not for everyone, but since there is no HDR industry standard, basically all TV brands and models, say the TV is HDR, but the big issue is, most TV's under 1K can't get bright enough to bring out HDR highlights. The black levels are too low and the white levels are too low.

The measurement is called NITS, and to get good HDR highlights your TV needs to have a peak brightness starting around 800 NITS. Your everyday Walmart TV's don't even come close to that. 1000 NITS would be ideal, and I think The Show is developed with HDR working well with TV around that number.

I just wanted to throw that out there for people who have done everything right and are still getting issues.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, you can find out the peak brightness of your TV by looking at it's review on rtings.com

Another problem many don't understand is that many television manufacturers (especially Samsung) falsely claim sets as having HDR, when in fact, all the television does is decode HDR signal. I almost fell into that trap when I was first looking for a new television. How they get away with it I haven't a clue.

Well, been busy completing editing almost all the created stadiums that came with the game. Never thought I’d even use it, but it does add something to the game. I’d say that 90% of the stadiums uploaded to the vault are absolute gawdy junk, way over the top, but there are some gems. Guy did a pretty nice Tiger Stadium.

Been working on my roster pre-starting my franchise, so that has tsken up some time, but I finally sat down to play the game.....finally.

Absolutely beautiful on the PS5. I wasn’t thrilled that SOTS was gone, but I must say with what they’ve done with the walk up music and crowd interaction I’m really not missing it. The pitchers reaction on some close pitches is well done. I’m concentrating on overriding the AI with multiple runners on (I use AUTO). Able to advance a runner from second to third without sending the trailing runner to.

One thing I didn’t like. Pittsburgh down 6-1 in the 5th with a runner on first let their pitcher bat (he bunted). Have to keep an eye on this in future games (Countryboy/Archie any problem you see with this?)

Final 10-2 victory over Pittsburgh. Playing on AS v. AS no sliders touched. Certainly don’t want that score to be commonplace, but only one exhibition game.

Really, really like pitcher reactions and facial expressions. Lots of hit variety. I do play on AUTO field, MANUAL throw, AUTO base running, center swing (never use the power button) absolute clean screen.

Trying to upload a photo of a gamer created stadium. This photo does ZERO justice to how the game looks. I absolutely disagree that the game looks no better than the PRO (which I played on last year). It is stunning looking. Guess the gear makes a difference.

                            Back to making my roster.
