MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Same with spatial audio that you can hear on regular airpods, check youtube and test for yourself, it’s pretty cool.Last edited by LastActionHero; 04-19-2021, 03:39 AM."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Exactly. The trade logic is actually much worse than ever. I should not be able to trade off pieces from the Detroit Tigers that includes none of their main prospects to get the guys I was able to get to begin the season.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Game is fluid, many subtle things are there that I’ve noticed , really sweet.
Two Way player...I see this option but but dead click when I choose it...create a player or edit..
Any insight ?Comment

I like pin-point pitching but a pitch release hundreds of a second early should not elevate pitches as high as it does.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
I do. I hate hip hop and every music from the show all years is horrendous to me. I hate most styles except only a couple. My taste is very limited.
I’d like to see electronic instrumental music that’s not slow and not fast. Like kraftwerk but different and for game menus. But that’s just me.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
I have been highly critical of the Show series for the last 3 years as I felt they did nothing worthy of charging $60 dollars.
I went ahead and got the JR edition on both PS5 and Series X even though it is on Game Pass but wanted to show love to the team at SSD.
The game this year is not going to have the graphical upgrade over NBA2K21 and Madden did with their next gen updates but the game does look very good with the high resolution 4k and butter smooth 60fps during gameplay as it does dip a lot during cutscenes and camera cuts to around 45fps based on my OLED info screen on series X as i cannot test it on PS5 since it does not offer VRR or Freesync support.
The combination of 60fps gameplay and 4k details plus the great lighting makes this an excellent visual upgrade but not the next gen update we hoped.
In terms of gameplay the game plays very similar to years past but some of the biggest issues I had are gone. The suction fielding in the outfield is much improved and hit variety along with swing animations are much improved.
Playing on PS5 which is 4k 60hz on my 120hz panel gives me 13.6 ms of input lag which is great for a tv but not ideal for twitch games like the show or FPS.
One of the biggest reasons for getting it on the X was that you can natively output the game at 4k 120hz which lowers input lag to 5.2ms which is a huge difference and better then most monitors. Hitting and pitching feels super responsive at this level even though it feels great as well on PS5
The dual sense is not a big deal in terms of the game but it has nice touches when hitting and fielding. I just wish it did a better job of using it but still is nice.
In terms of differences in PS5 and Series X I did not see any graphical differences except it seems series X is using a bit better AA option but is not easily something to notice unless you go back and forth.
To me the biggest difference is that input lag numbers which are critical in these type of games.
I did notice on both versions that the menus and into screens all look low rez compared to the actual game which looks 4k.
The game is much improved on the field except the pitching to me needs to be improved as it feels outdated by now and I wish when pitching it felt more heavy and pitches did not feel floaty. Hitting is amazing and fielding as well.
I think SSD did a great job this year with improvements and we can look forward to next year having better visuals and hope that PS5 by that time offers VRR which is super importantComment

I definitely disagree, especially when considering if you miss the accuracy by one or two degrees it's not nearly as drastic of a miss as pitch release being essentially slight early.Comment

Just hit a bomb with Tatis and it felt so right. Had his signature bat flip and celebration too. Can't put this game down.

So will the ps5 game play in 120fps if I have a tv that allows it? I thought it was capped at 60fps.

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Issue is that on PS5 you cannot manually select 120hz as it is done based if the game offers 120fps option.
On X you can output the whole time at 4k 120hz regardless if the game is 4k 60 or 1800p 60 or 4k 30fps. It will always output at 120hz which reduces input lag by half. The game will still be at the FPS it is made in but the input latency and in many cases frame pacing is fixed.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Sliders seem to be broken. The game looks nice but the sliders seem to have no effect on the style of game... I have fielding errors maxed, have yet to see a fielding error either by the team I use or my opponent. I have infielders throw speed tuned all the way down and still fielders can throw off balance, turn in the air throws like 150MPH with perfect accuracy. Pitchers have super human fielding accuracy. There is no difference between default and slider adjustments. I care less about XP, I don't play DD, but I just want my Franchise to be enjoyable, and for the most part it has been so far, but I get tired of hitting a line shot to the hole, to be gloved by a SS who backhands, turns in mid air and fires a strike to the first baseman, or you hit a line shot up the middle and the pitcher makes a perfect play every time (and pitchers normally do not). Finally, trying to beat the shift, you bunt down the third base side and the pitcher runs like he is Carl Lewis to grab the ball on the line then fires a strike to first every time. I changed fielders reaction speed all the way down, it still happened, so it appears the sliders adjustments are broken...If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.Comment
