In my opinion PPP is the best addition in years, and the fact that you’ll have to work it it makes it so much more likely to have staying power.
Too often, we are able to figure out Meter, Pulse, etc... and once you “get it”, the thrill is gone.
This is tough, and to make it even more fun, turn off all the ball maker helpers, and you’ll really start to get sweaty palms trying to deal filth in the late innings with guys on base.
The key is to watch the cadence on the preview for the pitch prior to making it. The great thing they did was give you real time feedback, via the colors on the gesture animation while you are pitching.
For a circle change to be super-effective, you need to start at 9 o’clock, swing clockwise all the way to 3 o’clock, back to 12 o’clock, and then down to the left/right market based on where you aimed. It’s not easy, but all along the way you get colors and tracings to see if you have followed the gesture perfectly.
Watching the gesture meter go full blue (perfect) and having that pitch dip down and catch the edge of the black for the K, is just way too rewarding. Okay find myself rushing through my offensive at-bats, just so I can get back out on the hill and deal my filth.
Work on getting comfy with each pitch, and some days you’ll have the “feeling” with certain pitches (like real life) and some days you’ll feel totally lost (again, as it is).
As you nail your gesture perfectly, your confidence goes up with that pitch (make sure it’s turned on) and the precision of your gesture gets a tad more forgiving for that offering.
It is simply the most fun I have had playing this game, and coupled with sliders to make the game more realistic, I can’t get enough.
Practice, get your comfort level up with each pitch, and go dominate!!

Took me about 4 games but I've gotten used to it and I agree, I love the challenge.

Like you mentioned, I watch closely the cadence before the pitch. It helps tremendously. I've also learned how to keep one eye on the last gesture and one eye on my pitchers release point for more "perfect" pitches. Once the confidence meter goes up, you can almost flow through a few innings.

My only gripe is sometime the cpu batter refusing to give in and will foul off at least 5-10 pitches until you finally mess up. Realistic in a sense but it happens predictably. Like if I breeze through a few innings with less than 20 pitches. The next few batters will forcibly make me throw a dozen pitches.

Lastly, my impressions are from a long time XBox user so I'm absolutely in heaven right now.

Make sure you are purposely throwing some balls out of the strike zone....
I find myself not throwing enough balls, and you’ll see that when you throw a “perfect” pitch with regards to the meter, you’ll get rewarded with some swings and misses.
Also, the foul ball frequency needs to be turned down from the default settings...
If you are interested, I’ll set you up with a slider package that will have you enjoying the game more than you can imagine. From outfielder speeds, infielder arm strength, baserunner speeds...
You’ll have to position defenses, make substitutions for defensive replacements in late innings, and pitch and play defense on full-alert.
It is the most fun baseball experience you’ll ever play.

Depending on inning and situation of the game I do the same. Enough is enough lol.

Ha!! To be honest, if I give up a homerun and the guy poses, bat flips, or in any way, during the replay, styles on me... he’s getting dotted his next at bat.

This was a beautiful catch by Mazara at the wall. The animation was perfect for it. Love seeing these new catch animations at the wall. Just makes the game so much better.

I've only played 6 or 7 games at this point, but I'm nearly 100% convinced pitch speeds are slower this year. On Legend with the slider at 10 for fastballs and offspeed pitches I'm still struggling to stay back on most pitches.

At least in 20 I actually had some heaters that would get by me. So far in 21 I'm really struggling to sit back. Any breaking ball in the mid 80's or lower feels like I'm waiting forever for it to be close enough to swing at.

I really wish that on Legend with max pitch speeds it was at the very least made to be as close to 100% accurate as they could get it. Obviously they won't perfect how much the ball speeds up out of the hand and slows down once it nears the plate, but from a reaction time standpoint it would be nice for the max speed in the game to actually be accurate to real life.

There is nothing more daunting, frustrating, and enjoyable than pitching with a pitcher who just doesn't have it that day.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Then there’s the flip slide. Pitching with Degrom feels like cheating lol.

Happened to me last night with my new trade acquisition Luchessi. 4 innings 6 runs with 4 walks and I enjoy every minute of it.

                        Just a few more impressions:

For some reason I feel the need to preface everything by letting you know I'm not a diehard MLB fan. I actually buy The Show every other year and then a few weeks in I stop playing it every single time. I'll get bored with it or move back to Battlefield with the clan.

This may be the most fun I have had with a baseball game in a long time. I can't quite wrap my head around why but it's a lot of fun to play despite the fact that I think they screwed up RTTS.

In past games I have usually used meter pitching and I'm guessing that is because it's default and I don't know enough to make changes. Well this year I switched over to classic pitching after trying pinpoint and It has made pitching so much more enjoyable. I get enough time to see what the results of my decision are and I feel like I have to make adjustments depending on how the pitcher is rated or how they are performing on the day.

I was playing my 2nd DD game the other night and was really struggling. I couldn't hit for anything and the guy I was playing really had my number and then I finally figured out what pattern he was taking so I preloaded a swing that turned into a 3 run HR to take the lead.

The next inning though my relief pitcher just couldn't find the strike zone. I walked a batter and then had a few more poor at bats. He had the bases loaded and I thought I was really about to choke it away...

                        <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7aMgaQD0JyI" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Anyways for someone like me who has never been very good at the game it felt good to win a game that way.

I'm at April 27th in my franchise.

The Angels just signed C Tyler Flowers out of free agency to a one year $3.1M deal.

I know some, or maybe most, won't get it/understand/care, but as a diehard franchise fanatic, this is such a big..big deal, and improvement, to this mode.

I hope this is not true but it wouldn't surprise me as they seem to continue to "dumb down" the game for the masses. Maybe they just need larger differences in slider settings. The last thing you want in a sports game is the ability to master it. Then it just becomes a box on a shelf.

I don't know how many others we have on here who play at the max speed, but I'd like to get other opinions on the matter.

I don't know why they'd make the change, but I definitely am struggling to sit back on anything this year. I'm seeing pitches real well, still drawing walks fine, not chasing much, I'm just early on everything be it 101 or 81.
