Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Does anyone know what the Big Red blotch outline flashing icon is in the outfield?
There was a ball between spinner and left and I thought it would be a simple play for my centerfielder (back up) and that icon started flashing and then he made a horrible attempt, a flailing, failed attempt at a catchComment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Completely agree on the fun factor. I’m playing on a regular PS4 and haven’t played The Show since 18. This game has something different different going for it than any prior version I’ve played. Beyond the mechanical and graphical improvements. Just get some good sliders and wow I haven’t had this much fun since Ken Griffey presents Major League Baseball on SNES.
I honestly have no idea why I’m having so much fun with this game. The last few times a bought the game, I stopped playing after a few weeks. Maybe the frame rate and pitching were that annoying to me subconsciously.

Supposed to pop up on those difficult sinking balls that are kind of in-between the defense (though if I remember this year's streams correctly they added it to plays at the wall too). Trying to show the plays where good fielders can make the diving catch or at least knock it down vs poor fielders who you're better off playing it safe and fielding off the bounce.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
So, is stealing really as easy as pressing the steal button anytime before the pitcher starts his pitching sequence? One time I literally sneezed and accidentally pressed the steal button and Bo Bichette stole a base even though I had no intention to do so.Comment

No, I get caught stealing my fair share.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I was playing an exhibition game last night and had a 15 inning marathon game. After going up 2-0 in the first as the Cards against the Giants, I couldn't scratch another run across and ended up blowing the lead in the 9th. We go to extras and in the 13th they have runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. The batter hits a dribbler up the middle that gets by the pitcher and is heading to the OF, but Tommy Edman is just able to reach it where he quickly tosses it to Dejong covering 2nd.
Dejong has to hop, barehands it, turns as he's coming down, tags the bag with his foot and fires a laser over to 1st to turn the game-saving double play. It was such a great moment I actually came out of my chair with excitement and the animations looked perfect.Comment

They introduced it last year as the Extreme Catch Indicator.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
In 20 on my PS4 Pro, using the power swing wouldn't fully register once in a while. Would just register a kind of check swing. I thought I just had a wonky button but the same thing is happening with my Series X game with a Series X controller. There is no way that button is also wonky and it never happens for any other swing/button. Only power. Is this happening to others here?Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I really want to like this year's game. I really do.
I really want to like the load outs and being a 2 way player. Bugs and glitches aplenty aside...and they are hard to overlook.....
I keep coming back to how the load outs just don't make sense for a 2 way player. It's the same guy whether he's pitching, fielding or hitting. Why would a guy who pitches mid90s have a rag arm in the field and can barely reach 2nd from the right field corner? Why would a guy who has 70+ home run power not be able to hit a ball out of the infield when he pitches? People hold up Ohtani as the example, and none of the load outs I have tried are even close to hs reality. He doesn't all of a sudden forget how to hit when he's pitching.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Impressions from a longtime player still using a PS4...
- They added in some new celebration animations, which is a refreshing change of pace. And they actually redid the high five line at the end of the game! It's not the same one at the same angle since the PS2 days!
- I suppose I can understand how check swings are now solely user based, but jeez, I've had a lot of ugly half-swings trying to hold up. In years past I'd mentally complain about how check swings were almost never called strikes, now it's the opposite. Careful what you wish for.
- You no longer get a card after finishing a game? I can understand doing this for Conquest since it's just three innings, but if I finish a full nine inning game, at least give me a common card for the effort.
- The bill on the helmet on the 1983 Giants home uniforms is still orange. A small quibble, but I'm just glad that the Clark/Mitchell/Williams uniforms were added last year.
- I'm almost used to the new menu layouts. I'm old, so I hate change, but I'm adjusting.
- Speaking of old, I haven't really tried pinpoint pitching too much, but I do approve of more control options. I guess I've played too many golf games on the NES to abandon the meter interface.
- Add me to the camp that thinks the sound of contact is a little off. They seem muted to me, and a perfect/perfect lacks that satisfactory crunch from last year. (Via built in TV speakers.) That said, I can also understand why people thought the P/P hits sounded too cartoony last year.
- The reworked prestige (I-V) system no longer requires online play! Thank you! All online introverts like me thank you!
- Maybe Team Affinity should be renamed Division Affinity? But it does mean the custom Giants DD team I made last year is now a custom NL West DD team this year.
- Fielding in the outfield feels great. This is probably the first time in a few years where I don't feel any trepidation patrolling the outfield out of the box. No bad routes. No standing exactly pixel perfect on the marker or else you drop it. No hop, skips and jumps before throwing to home and guaranteeing a sac fly.
- I like the daily moments. It's something you can knock out in just a few minutes, and after about two weeks you get some good cards.
- I don't like how Matt has started going "Here is..." before a player name, it just sounds so unnatural compared to "Here's." The commentary and name stitching sounded stilted already, this just adds to it.
That said, I still enjoy the game, and I'm glad that my habit of not being an early adopter of new technology means I only paid $60 for the game. Should be even better after the upcoming patch drops.Last edited by Seltaeb9091; 04-30-2021, 04:06 AM.When the Giants come to town, it's Bye Bye Baby...Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
anyone else notice that in RTTS as a pitcher the game charges you earned runs against incorrectly?
edit....
looks like its only wrong in the post game stats. The box score correctly has them as unearned runs
Also I got called up to Triple A and I'm the starting pitcher every third game lol.
Why did I pick this year to get into RTTS.Last edited by CujoMatty; 04-30-2021, 05:51 PM.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush
