Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
This is probably the coolest play I've ever had happen in this game!

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I just can’t get over how great a game of baseball this title plays. It’s so easy to just play game after game after game. SDS truly captures the action on the diamond and aesthetics off it. I can honestly say this is the most fun I’ve had playing actual video game baseball.
As for my concerns, I am worried that they didn’t add any of the City Connect Uniforms that Nike rolled out this year. To my knowledge, SDS is the only AAA sport’s title that isn’t adding content like this after launch. I’m also discouraged that not only can they not seem to implement rotational interleague, but apparently they cannot simply patch a bugged schedule anymore. Finally, the players just seem unathletic as the engine has aged. Sliding, jumping, and diving looks very very dated and contextually off at this point. There is so much youth and juice in MLB today and I’d love for 22’ to capture it.
Overall, given the circumstances of a next generation leap, an XBOX Port, and Covid. I commend SDS for giving us a great baseball experience in 2021! I will be playing this game well into spring training.Comment

And agree 100% about the sliding/jumping/diving catches, they look "odd" compared to the improvements to the other bodily motions in the game.
Sliding needs to be more "alive" with runners moving limbs to try to contort their bodies around a tag.
Jumping needs more "life"...sorry not sure how else to describe it. it looks very "Mario". I say that because my son will have them jump and say "Daddy he's jumping like Mario does"
And diving looks the worse of them all. Again, its lifeless and looks extremely robotic. There's no "human element" to it, just guys diving in a straight line almost with a body on a perfect plane to try and make a play.
Definitely a part of the gameplay on the field that needs some long overdue TLC.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yeah I was hoping we would get the City Connect uniforms once they were all unveiled, but no dice.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I've enjoyed the playoff presentation and atmosphere as well. The presentation is very similar to the Opening Day presentation in terms of the cut scenes, themed banners, etc.
Much like during the season, they will talk about the results in previous games in the series as well.
Crowds also wave towels/have thundersticks during the games which ramps up the atmosphere and the fan enthusiasm is definitely turned up as well.
They definitely don't feel like a typical regular season game which is all you can ask for.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Totally agree with both of you on some of the animations. Lots of things need to be updated, player models being one of them. But even with some of these wonky sliding, diving, jumping animations, it still plays one hell of a game of baseball. It's the only game I play every single day.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
There are definitely a handful of clunky PS3 era animations (especially on defense) that stick out like a sore thumb. It really is a shame because so many of the newer animations--like many of the HR robberies--look so smooth. Hopefully they can phase more of those out in the next few development cycles
Agree and it does seem like this is the strategy each title. I’d just love for it to be a “back of the box” type focus for 22’Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
The re-playability of this game is amazing to me. I've been playing daily since it came out and I'll probably keep playing it all winter. Its the only game series that I never get sick of playing, and I'm not at all new to gaming (52).I also love to do rebuilds in sports games, and I think this game is the most difficult to rebuild a franchise (if you do it the right way).
I still don't have a PS5 (can't seem to find one anywhere) but I'm sure when I eventually get this game on the PS5, I'll probably have to quit my job LOL.Last edited by jcar0725; 09-21-2021, 02:37 PM.JUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDEComment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I feel like I played enough to leave my impression. Not sure what good it is or will do.
Mlb the show 21 is a game that wants to be the best sports game, and from a macro perspective, it is. But once you zoom in, it fails pretty badly.
Online play is terrible. Seems absurdly random, and of course, no strategy or anything. Everyone has 99 players. Impossible to hit unless the cpu decides your pitcher is going to throw that "good" release slider right over the center of the plate etc.
Baserunning is still a joke. Always has been with this game.
Fielding is better this year.
online seems like a cheap mode made for kids and just isn't made to be serious anyways.
Franchise is fun for the first year or two, then the games limitations really start showing.
Nobody over 36 can play baseball?? Lol what?
No dynamic progression or regression in franchise? Everyone litterally progress the same way. So... yawn.. predictable and just not fun. This is the biggest negative to this mode/game. It makes franchise unplayable for me.
Too easy as gm. The trade logic is terrible. Signing players is too easy. No depth whatsoever to this. You can take the worst team to the world series in an off-season.
The coaches are a joke. Litterally don't even care. Just pick some that have positives and no negatives and forget their names because their is no depth here. No interaction, no nothing. Again, where this game fails.
On the surface you have the beautiful visuals and gameplay that is pretty bug free. But once you look closer the game just is meh imo.
But hey, it is better than madden lol...Comment

Just picked up '21 for the PS4 and notice a significant lag compared to '20. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this, if at all?!?Comment

I just had a no hitter with 2 outs in the 9th and the cpu bunted for a single
Would've been my first no hitterComment
