MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread

Getting a little time in with this on the XSX and I’m extremely happy with this years version. No game is gonna be perfect and I don’t expect it to but yet again Ramone and crew have done a great job giving both console players a solid game of America’s pastime.

Also would like to add that graphically on the XSX it looks gorgeous.

Yea I hate this as someone who likes to play every single ST game. Wish we could end it after nine.

Can you put the new 2B rule on in ST games?...then off in Regular Season?

Tabarnes...the in season signings, you're saying the CPU will now sign free agents during the season and release players?

Yup and alot of them...really nice.

Also if you turn contracts to manual and sim to day before exclusive period in off-season. Players hit market and contract values for ss and other go up. Must be something in logic to have them bid up.

Can you put the new 2B rule on in ST games?...then off in Regular Season?

I’m sure you can. It’s a pre-game option, like quick counts and choosing the weather. You would just toggle it to “No” once the regular season starts

Gameplay itself is really good. I can feel the difference in fielding. Especially the outfield.



One issue is that certain players who play a position don't have that position listed



For example, Jake Bauers plays first base for the Indians, yet he is listed as an outfielder in LF and RF I think, but not 1B. When I put him at first he can't catch anything let alone scoop a ball out of the dirt.



Hopefully this is fixed in a patch. Strange, because I believe he was listed as a 1B last year.

As a Indians fan I noticed this too. A. Rosario not having CF, Y. Chang not having 1B, etc. Also, what is up with Bauer’s face??Last year looked just like him but now he looks like a totally different person and has dark hair?? Weird. Maybe these things will be fixed in a roster update soon.

PS4 Pro Impressions

- Loving the gameplay. Hitting seems harder in my 2 games that I’ve played. Usually play HOF w/ zone but barely got any hits. Think I’m gonna drop to AS and see how that plays.

- enjoying pinpoint pitching. Challenging but rewarding.

- The transition animations in the outfield for when a player is approaching a grounder/fly all are an improvement.

- player faces look better and the equipment is an improvement. Everything seems to look more polished from last year.

- Did have a bug when playing at Fenway. A. Gimenez hit a HR down the RF fouls line. Switched to HR cam and looked like it was drifting foul. Ended up being a HR. Wasn’t convinced it was fair by my eyes so went to instant replay and sure enough, the ball went about a foot foul from the outside of the foul pole. There was no replay review or anything and it counted as a run even though it was definitely foul.

Otherwise, planning to get more games in and dig a little deeper on gameplay.

So the unbalanced rosters aren't an issue with the stock roster this year? No more crazy prospect trades the second week of franchise?

Not seeing the mass trades. Seems to be fixed. I'm sure with improved rosters we will see true logic of trades etc. Teams try to improve right now Yankees use Estrada as SS because Torres is a 2b.

I know this is a impressions thread so I will keep it short.

Im sure it will get fixed with the first roster update. As a x Indians fan (or whatever the h#$% they will be named) why Bauers isnt labeled to play 1st at least as a secondary (Unless he didnt make a appearance in 20) I dont get, but Chang just started this season really playing first and I think it wasnt till late Spring, opening that he did.

I simmed through one year and didn't see anything too horrific in terms of trades.

Yankees acquired Kyle Hendricks from Cubs for Jameson Taillon.

Rangers traded Gallo, but forgot to whom.

In the offseason, the Astros traded Altuve away for mid-level prospects. Wasn't sure what that was about.

Quick impressions after an exhibition game and a couple of moments:

+ So happy to have The Show on my XBox Series S and that I could sell my Playstation 4. That helped me with the cost of getting the early Jackie Robinson edition. I got my moneys worth but now to have all the games I enjoy on one console is pure bliss!

+ Gameplay is top notch. I can see a bit of elevation in the graphics on Xbox Series S compare to The Show 20 I played as recently as last week on PS4. Players uniforms, dirt, grass seem to have a higher detail.

~ Bland menus and scorebug. Do like the scorebug is easier to read with larger type, but more color was needed. The bug last year was outstanding. Upset they did not give more presentation options like the classic overlays. Glad they are still in moments though.

- Yes, I'm also mad at the decision to remove SOTS and Y2Y Saves, big negative here.

- Unhappy with no night games in created stadiums yet, but they did tease a patch coming in their FAQS. Night games seem not to be lighted enough. It looks like some of the stadium lights are out. Noticed this at Wrigley, Citi Field and Busch, the stadiums I played in.

I can't overstate enough how awesome the presentation is on broadcast. Being able to see everything play out and not have it automatically go to the next pitch is wonderful. Also, I'm having some really good pitcher/batter duels. Jose Ramirez gave me a 15 pitch battle. I threw him everything and he kept fouling it off. I ended up walking him on a close pitch. Right now I'm pitching with Aaron Nola and the home plate umpire will NOT give me anything at the knees. I've had numerous pitches at the knees that were strikes called balls. It has forced me to change my strategy. Loving this game so far!

Awesome, in my first game I got a call from the umpire for a strike three on a p**Ssed off batter below the lower inside corner. The look on his face was hilarious. The replay clearly showed the entire ball out of the strike zone. I think the umps name was Washington. Does Broadcast Presentation allow you to see where the foul balls end up? I would like watching that and seeing the fans catch them.

I've been known to walk runners around the bases in order to end a lengthy Spring Training game.

One other thing I noticed, and maybe it's just me, but the music through the PA system sounds so much better this year. Batter walk up music sounds awesome

First logic thing that is really bothering me...Yanks made a curious trade of Torres(edited to SS) for Pache. That doesn't even bother me as much as the Yankees placed Sanchez at ss from June until the playoffs. He only had 3 errors as well....

I don't understand the logic there.
