What happened to CPU logic with rosters (i.e. lineups, rotation and bullpens) though that was one of the things they fixed. Rosters completely change when starting a franchise. Would love not to do 30 team control and fix every roster. How do you guys go about that?

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
When scrooling thru CAPS of Boston noticed a problem that was there last year, i.e. CAPS faces that are the same on different players faces (same exact face bugs as last year). Noticed this on several AL teams. Don’t get me wrong though some really good CAPS through out.Comment

In franchise mode the coaches are awful!!!!! Hopefully with the next roster update this will be fixed. What an eyesore the Padres manager is when they key on him in the dug out (not the real manager).Comment

I really hope they fix the game start times. They all seem to be off in franchise mode.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Just finish playing a full game Padres vs diamondback. I was the padres. I love the gameplay. Very smooth just like how i remember last year. My motto if its not broke dont fix it. Not going to lie was a little upset that there no sounds of the show but like i said in the thread on this board, it just gives me more time to finally finish a whole 162 game season. Presentation is good like the stats that shows up. Now i will says nba 2k spoiled me i was so used to different commentators and stuff was hoping mlb did the same but its cool. Now what piss me off and i was hoping it got fix from last year is the automatic call ups if you sim to the regular season. I hate that the cpu will do moves for you. I thought the trick will work when you remove the minors from the 40 man it will work but it didnt. So that sucks. Back to positive i was shock to see they have updated rosters already. When i was playing with the padres I’m like where tatis jr. but overall I’m happy with the game cant wait to play more lets play ball. Good to have xbox having baseball again. Especially since I wasn’t able to get next gen ps5 and i need my baseball lolComment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
I went back and forth this evening between PS5 and PS4 version on my PS5. There is not a huge difference. Obvious load times are better for PS5 version and I will say it seems to run a little smoother and while I cannot put my finger on what it is, there is a slight better look to the lighting. Like CujoMatty said earlier, going from PS5 to PS4 you think it's about the same. Then you go back to PS5 and something just pops or looks a little closer to photo realistic lighting....i dunno but it just seems a wee bit more polished.
On a different note, I did some capturing of gameplay using the built in PS5 recorder and PS5 version records at 60fps and the PS4 version is still locked to 30 and it appears to have microstutters in the recording making it even less smooth.
They removed the post game highlights that showed most of the important plays with the inning and score. This wasn't a great feature but now it's been replaced with basically 4-5 key plays from the game, usually in a closeup format so you cannot really get the context. This is a big step backward.
Fielding in the outfield seems to be smoother and improved as promised.
Oh...and the audio. In my PS5 version of the game the crowd got kind of loud and seemed to be really rooting for me as I was taking a 1-0 lead into the 8th and 9th innings. It seemed as if the crowd was really getting intense. I never noticed this before.
Then I went to the PS4 version and the crowd seemed rather low in the overall mix and I never heard them "pump up". Also, in the PS4 version there seems to be a glitch where the color commentary guy (I dunno his name) audio get's really quiet and I can hardly hear him while Matt V. is plenty loud enough. I am playing on 5.1 surround setup and in PS5 version both come out of the center channel clearly. On PS4 the PBP guy sounds like he is getting cancelled out as I can hear him but it seems off as he is so quiet. Anyone else seeing this?
Will post more tomorrow. Look forward to all of your impressions.Last edited by icicle22; 04-16-2021, 03:41 AM.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
RTTS showcase is gone. It just skips to the ‘do you have a team in mind?’ phone call with your coach.
Also can’t seem to start a catcher RTTS.

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Luis Robert robbed me of the game tying home run in the bottom of the 10th inning off of Jose Ramirez. It was pretty damn cool. They showed the replay and they even show highlights after the game. He celebrated a bit too.
The very next batter, Eddie Rosario blasted a 413 foot home run to tie it, he wasn't robbing that one.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Crowd noise may have been addressed.
Played a Ranked Seasons game in Oriole Park and had the usual crowd.
Played RTTS games in a few AA parks and it sounded really good, like a much smaller crowd in a local field.
Tried out Blank Canvas field (created stadium with zero stands) and crowd noise was non-existent. As in complete silence except for commentary and sound effects for a game-tying 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th! (Except the quick sim had crowd which was weird).

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
Only got to play for about 15 minutes before I headed off to work. Playing the PS5 version.
My first impression is, I was glad I got a trophy to pop early on. Therefore I could go and check my profile to be sure I was playing the PS5 version instead of the PS4 version. Maybe it’s not a fair impression given I had such a short time with the game. I played an inning at Guaranteed Rate Field, AmFam Field, and the Trop. Overall it didn’t look all that different than 20 does on PS5. Which isn’t that bad I guess, it still looks really good imo. But yea, I think others have noted as well, there doesn’t seem to be that big of a graphic jump between gens this year. But the game still looks good enough to me.
I’m assuming there’s no way to change between video display options, or to toggle HDR on and off. So compared to 20, maybe 21 just is locked into Sharper mode with HDR always on. Which is fine with me, as that would have been my choice anyways.
Other than that not much else from me as it was just a quick 15 minutes or so. Looks and feels a lot like 20 did on PS5. The haptics did feel pretty cool. One thing I loved in the tech test was the way fielding in the outfield felt. Didn’t get to play enough to notice any of that in the retail version but I’m sure it’s the same.
Will spend a bunch of time playing this weekend, can’t wait.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
So I got the edition that has PS4 and 5 versions but I’ve only played the PS5 so far. Gameplay as always I absolutely love. Pin-point pitching is the challenge I really needed, love it so far. Disappointed not to see genuine next generation graphical upgrades, even something as simple as open button jerseys for a guy like Justin Turner. But the game is as good as always.Comment

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread
In-game substitution menu you now need to scroll as it only fits six players from the lineup on the screen at a time. The actual lineup and bench lists only get 1/3 of the screen real estate.
Unless it’s because I’m not on a 4K screen?
It really didn’t need to change and now it’s terrible.
