Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread

Gameplay itself is really good. I can feel the difference in fielding. Especially the outfield.

One issue is that certain players who play a position don't have that position listed

For example, Jake Bauers plays first base for the Indians, yet he is listed as an outfielder in LF and RF I think, but not 1B. When I put him at first he can't catch anything let alone scoop a ball out of the dirt.

Hopefully this is fixed in a patch. Strange, because I believe he was listed as a 1B last year.

Career stats are now available in-game! Go to a player’s player card by pressing tri. All the usual season stats are there too when you go to player stats in menu.

Pause screen batter summary now only shows maximum of last three PAs from current game. So if somebody’s 1 for 4 it only shows the last three at-bats. A bit annoying. It needs to have more height to it.

Played the next gen version for a couple of hours yesterday, and although it still The show that I love im a bit disapointed... doesnt feel or look next gen to me... In the end it seems only stadium creator is the real diference between next and old gen... I was expecting an improvment in graphics and lightining.

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread

I have run a few quick sims looking mainly at free agent and trade logic. Really need to do a deeper dive.

Contracts appear to have been improved. Pitchers more so than position players. SS seem very undervalued. Some positions are payed well. I don't see the min salary vets. It comes with a caveat. It appears that the budgets explode. Year 2 the least amount of budget a team has is 28 mil teams have as much as 98mil available. Don't have to worry about going over budget.

There is 93 roster spots as noticed last night. I see almost no trades in first few months of season even with slider up 2 notches. EDIT: NEW SIM WITHOUT TOUCHING INJURY SLIDER AND I SEE NORMAL TRADE QUANTITY.
I think there is not enough trades. I don't see the big highlight trades as much as before. That is kind of a bummer. EDIT 2. In July a turned trade slider up and boom tons of high quality trades. The trade slider seems to be more effective this year. If you want blockbusters in July turn it up. See some big trades and like it. Only negative is rebuilding teams tend to trade young talent away instead of vets.

There are multiple in season signings now. Still does not log entire seasons transactions.

The Maeda for Bichette trade was a head scratcher.

I haven't looked into progression or regression or callups and send downs yet.

Re: MLB the Show 21 Impressions Thread

Highly dissapointed in the visuals for a next gen console and paying 90 dollars. On series X I wanted to show support for the team and play it 4 days early but the game when it starts does not look like you are on a new more powerful console. The graphics look the same but you do get a locked 60fps at all times which is nice. Some of the animations are nicer but as a package this is very dissapointing in terms of looking forward to what next gen brings to a great baseball sim

When you plug in NBA 2k21 you get that next gen look and feel

                        Same for Madden IMO

                        Same for Fifa

NHL and MLB look like just regular ports with the same improvements from last gen but higher FPS

This is not a knock on the gameplay as the game is great like always but not much change to warrant that price. You would think charging base 70 and 90 to play early that they would hit you with a wow package visually and presentation wise but it is the same as before.

Music is the same, the same dumb cutscenes of crowds which look the same. The foul lines in distant shots are still broken lines.

Those with Game Pass should feel lukcy

I wasn’t able to find a bugs thread for MLB 21 but I wanted to know if anyone playing on the Xbox is having issues with audio. I noticed that playing an exhibition game that the crowd is silent at the top of the 1st inning when the away team is batting. Once I get to the bottom of the 1st the crowd noise is there. On the PS5 I don’t get this. Only getting this on the series s.

Any changes to the offseason with respect to having to manually offer all of the team-controlled players contracts? That seems like such a waste of time and should be corrected to basically a choice of offering all team-controlled/non-Arb players the default minor league salary.

Went ahead and upgraded my purchase to the digital deluxe so I could start my franchise last night on day one. Had a $75 gift card from my birthday so the extra $15 was not a big deal.

The frame rates are buttery smooth now. No more glaring slow downs which is very nice.

Visually, it looks great. Grass and dirt look realistic. Structures around the ball park look awesome. Jerseys and skin tone still are sub par imo, but the lighting helps. Most faces look great, but the hair is still very meh. Crowds are just a bit better than last year, which I think they look pretty darn good.

I played all of one game. I didn't experiment yet with the new pitching interface. I started out on meter and was not allowing any walks or really any control issues. Switched over to Classic which immediately felt much more realistic. Gave up a couple walks with Flaherty on the mound.

The commentary is quite long in the tooth, however if you're new to the Show, you'll probably be quite content. Matt Vasgersian does a decent job with the play by play, but between Matt and the color commentary, it just doesn't flow all that well. It's just a pet peeve of mine after playing the NBA 2K series for so long.

Rosters are obviously are not necessarily up to par. Some strange additions to the Cardinals bench that I immediately fixed. Lineups are out of order as well, at least according to me. Those are are easily fixed as well.

Very much looking forward to playing all weekend.
