What is the obsession with everyone wanting full “real” players in the minors... You can make adjustments yourself before starting. The rosters are a pretty decent base to build off.

The lighting with the shadows at the Brewers stadium is very well done!

I am sure it looks a bit prettier...they added and tightened up animations. Lighting is better...and other minor graphical improvements. But the things they both did not include, or just flat removed is so disappointing to so many.

Little things like asking for the HR cam to be optional. Upgrading the announcing and sideline reporter presentation. And head scratchers like create a stadium that can only be used in daytime only. Just to name a few. To say nothing of the infamous Y2Y saves.

I am not saying it is not a good game. On field has always been stellar and continues to be so. But as a new release, and a next gen one at that, I am finding more people are disappointed than jumping for joy.

        Just my opinion...

It's true that most of us post more when we're unhappy about something. That said, I am truly sad (and even a little angry... first world problems, but they're MY first world problems) about the non-DD modes. I don't like playing DD. It never resonated with me. I don't want a video game that just happens to use baseball as the context. I don't care about proving whether I'm the best at moving sticks and hitting buttons. I want an immersive baseball simulation that looks and sounds gorgeous. I want to get as close to real baseball as possible. In RTTS I never liked using tons of equipment upgrades to upgrade my ratings. I wanted my playing and training to do that. I had the option to do it the "hard way", even if it took me longer to get to the majors. That's exactly what made it fun for me. If anything, I was hoping SDS would allow options to start deeper in the minors, with the need to play as many as 3-4 years to get my shot at the big leagues.

21 is beautiful. Not a huge upgrade on the PS4, but a nice one. I really like the more fluid movement when you are not currently making the play on defense (like positioning my infielder to take the cutoff or cover a base before the runner gets there). That itself makes the game more fun for me.

But one of the things I appreciated most about past releases was the ability to tailor a game to how I like to play. If you want an ultra competitive game where you collect the most cool stuff to get an advantage over your opponents, it's there. If you want a casual game for spending time with friends, it's there. If you want to immerse yourself in a near-real franchise and carry it over multiple years, it's there.

I'm still trying to give this a chance, but it appears like SDS is giving up on the long term simulation players - - the people who helped build this into a dominant game franchise. That's why it hurts. Many of us feel like we have a stake in this game.

I'm (almost) to the point of suggesting SDS find a way to monetize simulation modes. I get that DD is their overwhelming source of revenue. They would be stupid as a business to not maximize DDs revenue streams.

Could they maybe find a way to monetize a choice to play real baseball on a console?

The game looks good that's for sure, I think this is the most accurate body models they’ve managed to put together. I also like that I can see the seams on the ball when it's in the air now, you can see them rotate, that's really cool. I think the default camera is a bit too far so I’m using strike-zone 3 because it's the exact same camera World Series Baseball had on the Genesis.

The game gives you a lot more information now, and without being cluttered, you can see so much data on the fly on every pitch, it made me think of my individual pitches a lot more. The play-by-play is better but a bit buggy, like I got hit by a pitch and they said “first pitch is a ball” and they also made some other mistake with something that happened on screen. Like it needs a patch. What also needs a patch is Heidi’s face. The reporter between innings? They like forgot to texture it or something or this graphical engine only knows how to create men because she looks funny. Poor Heidi looks like Clayface.

Otherwise, I think the commentary is still better, they talk more about strategy and the guy doing the commentary actually makes useful points now. I only wish they took the commentary to the next level, the play-by-play and banter are super important to baseball. You can tell more than ever that these two people aren't in the same room for a lot of the commentary. Anyway, the game is smooth as ever and the UI is the best they’ve done so far, IMO.
If there's one thing the 2K series nailed, it was commentary. If you haven't heard it before, check out a video of MLB2K13.

A little rash, no? The game has some areas that could be improved, but I’m thrilled. The show has zero competition, yet they still improve each year. This year the improvements seem minor and incremental, but you can’t deny that every year is the best baseball game ever made. I think next year will be the biggest leap, once they don’t have to incorporate last gen.

I heard someone say this game is “dead ball era”. I wasn’t seeing it, but now I’m not so sure. I’m getting about 1 home run per game, and so is the cpu. Are you guys seeing realistic home runs?

I love pinpoint pitching. Give it a try if you haven't done so already because it's excellent.

The graphics on PS5 are very good. I feel like the series has been held back by last-generation technology for a while, so it's nice to see improvement in that area.

Nothing dramatic has been changed about gameplay, but it definitely feels a bit different. I see that difference mostly on defense.

I love this game. Xbox players are fortunate to be coming on board this year.

At this point in the season IRL the average HR's per game for a team varies from .62 (Mets) to 1.69 (Reds). If you're getting 1ish a game per team, you're well within the norm of a realistic home run rate.

I'm seeing plenty of home runs, but thus far it hasn't been at the same rate as last years version. I think that's a good thing. That said I've only got about 10 games in, so my sample size is pretty small.
Only 5 full games, so I’m not jumping to any conclusions. I enjoy it this way, because I feel like I “earned” my homers

Agreed. The 1st game I played in franchise was a 3-2 loss and all 5 runs came from solos. The next two games there were only 4 combined. The game balances its self out.

There's going to be less HRs this season(real life)?... right? Didn't they alter the juiced ball from previous recent years?

I agree, I actually feel the gameplay is better balanced this year. 20 on default was a homerun derby

Yup I hate when people call the developers “lazy”. That goes for 2k and EA. Making games is not easy.. the issues I have with SDG is the questionable direction of some of their decision making regarding non DD modes, presentation stuff etc
