Pinpoint pitching is the only pitching method that should be used. It is worth the growing pains of learning it.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
I have an OG Xbox One, and a Xbox One X.
On a 4k tv the game runs perfectly on XB1X.
On a 1080p tv the game seems to run at about 20 fps max on the XB1.
It's reeeeeally bad. So I quit trying to play it on it. I just use the XB1X now.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
The only things that run like crap on my Xbox One are the menus. Selecting different settings, going to the bullpen or anything else seems like I am navigating in mud. I still don't understand why I can not find a camera that shows the entire ticker. I tried changing the resolution of my tv and that didn't work either. Weird.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Downloaded & played for a few hours last night & I’ve got to say this is by far the worst visual upgrade I have seen in a Series X enhanced game. How can the ground textures look that bad in a 2021 game. The grass looks better on PS4 pro from last year’s version. It’s clear to me that the studio has taken on too much & totally neglected to put in any effort with Series X/PS5.
No option for Frame rate,Resolution,Fidelity mode or HDR.
A patch must be following soon surely????
Great gameplay as always but come on SDS.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Conquest screen when you simulate an attack is blotchy with a lot of color circles. It looks so ugly. The background conquest screens in general are ugly. Last year was sooo much better. I just don't get all these new menus.
Oh you can now just select the RP by name right from the quick menu. Nice new addition. Still not liking the quick menu taking up half the screen though.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
This was always possible, the names are now double which makes no sense. And I agree that the quick menu shoukdn’t take up half the screen."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
My initial impressions:
I'll preface this by saying I skipped MLB 20. I don't expect massive leaps from game to game anymore and I don't love MLB enough to buy every year so some of the complaints others have likely won't be noticeable to me.
- The presentation is pretty good. For my first game I went with the full presentation experience just to see how it looks. It's comparable to other MLB the Show games but I do wish they would implement a second commentary crew.
- I think the sound of the bat crack and the feel on the Dual sense controller is really cool when you get ahold of a pitch perfectly. I don't care for the resistive trigger stuff a lot of games are doing but the sound and vibration feels good here and I like the feel when the ball hits the glove.
- My first game was the Colorado Rockies vs LA Dodgers and you could see the difference in fielder ratings sometimes when my players would bobble a ground ball or overthrow someone even when the throw was perfect in the green. I might consider adjusting the slider to make the CPU less perfect though. I know it's the Dodgers so I'll play a few more games to decide.
- I don't like pinpoint pitching, but I appreciate them adding options and something new. I tried it for a few innings and never could get it right and I don't feel like it really adds any immersion to the game so I went back. I'll probably play some exhibition games with it and see if my opinion changes because some people seem to think it's really cool.
- The game looks great. It just doesn't pop on the screen and looks a little flat compared to 2K21 on the PS5 but overall it's a sharp looking game. Some of that may be simulating natural outdoor lighting vs an arena experience with LED lighting but at least the textures and shadows are solid.
- I don't really have cons because I don't look at the game critically enough to just outright dislike anything but this game is definitely a really good representation of baseball If I had a con it's probably the menus are harder to navigate and find what you are looking for now. Menu is so important.. it's one of the biggest reasons I don't play NHL 21.
Sometimes I just have to remind myself I started with Bases Loaded on the NES and played a lot of Triple Play 98 as a kid. Kids today have it really really good and so do adults and sometimes it's taken for granted how far we have come.
Anyways I'm not here to lecture just giving a few impressions of my initial experience. It's a good game but I do wish they had carry over saves.. that's a real bummer and something I always applauded the franchise on getting right.Last edited by AUChase; 04-21-2021, 07:30 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
After reading all the impressions and this forum since last Friday I was reluctant to buy this years game. Well, I did anyway. And I'm glad I did. The presentation is much better and the gameplay is better. I mean, I didn't think it could get better than '20, but it has surpassed it. I didn't really notice bat sounds being bad. The haptic stuff is cool. I really like it. The crowd sounds are much better.
On a different note. They still haven't fixed the lighting at Minute Maid when the roof is closed. It's been wrong the last few years. They had it right in '17 or '18 (I forget the exact one). What I mean is when the roof is closed and it's getting dusk, the shadows don't appear on the field correctly. It's like you're playing in a dome. The only shadows are from the lights. It is what it is, and looks like I'll be playing most of my dusk games with the roof open.Last edited by kt-od; 04-21-2021, 09:21 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Impressions thus far now that I've finally got to play a decent amount rather than only the short 1.5 hours over the weekend. Man is the gameplay good and I feel like is better than previous years. The fielding is fantastic. The animations are refreshing and the web gem type plays are so damn realistic looking. Pinpoint pitching is really cool but I still need tons of practice before I even think about starting a franchise. I'm waiting on that anyway until rosters come out and there's been at least one patch fixing a lot of the bugs people have seen in the mode because there are some big ones it seems. Other than that I can't say what's improved tremendously. You just have to play it to feel it. The gameplay was already good to great every year since I started (2010) so it's no surprise and expected.
What I am happily surprised by is what they have changed presentation wise on broadcast. The different screens between pitches showing the stadium view, pitchers reactions, batters reactions, and the umpire throwing a ball back to the pitcher when there's a foul ball. In the thread created before the game came out for If there was one feature or thing implemented" one person put in pitcher entrances and I responded with how they needed to redo that and all of the other between pitch cuts or lack there of. Well, they read my mind and probably a lot of others. To me it just looks like they spent so much time in that area and it's similar to an actual TV broadcast. It would just be nice if they continue doing this year after year to keep the game fresh.
Next I want to touch on graphics. I see some pretty good improvements in that area minus the field. There is no doubt to me that players and some stadium pieces look better than 20 did on PS5. People can disagree all they want but I see a difference. Is it a huge difference, no. I think it's definitely visible though. They obviously need to improve still but that will come I'm sure. One example is I just faced Syndergaard last night and his long hair stayed stiff the whole game. The field, primarily grass still looks horrible IMO. The blotches of darkness in the outfield (I assume their goal was to make it think like the grass has been run on) in between the mow lines are the thing that's always bugged me the most. It just makes the grass look washed out and as if we are in the PS1 days. The field also needs more color pop.
Does it suck SOTS, Y2YS, and roster carryover in the vault are out, 100%. I didn't use Y2YS but that was such a large feature for a good part of the community that it just sucks it got taken out. If I wasn't such a need real rosters every new year of this game kind of guy, I would take advantage of Y2YS. Maybe someday I will if it comes back. I think it will. Anyway, luckily the gameplay is really making me oversee the SOTS removal.
As for the stadium creator I really haven't used it yet and haven't downloaded any stadiums since all I want to do right now is play the game. I also don't want to spend my limited game time sifting through pages of stadiums so until a search feature is in I don't know how much I'll actually download stadiums. I saw some of the bugs posted but in general I applaud SDS for what they did with it. It's at least a good base to keep improving upon. It does suck you can't play night games from what I hear. Maybe that's something that can be patched. You can bank on this though, one of the first things to get patched is going to be the stadium creator since it was their biggest feature. The one thing I do want to try unless someone has a great representation to download, is to create the minor league stadiums for the Twins. This especially goes for CHS field for the St. Paul Saints. Super cool that they put their Triple AAA team there and the stadium is really awesome from what it looks like. I live 15 mins away but haven't been to a game yet just because I'm not into the gimmicky things minor league teams do during games. I understand why they have to do it, but that's not me. Hell, I hate what MLB teams do half the time just to draw casuals.
All in all if gameplay and a serviceable Franchise mode is what you want or most of what you are looking for, buy the game. It truly is incredible and worth the upgrade from 20. If you haven't played since 19 or before, or never have played at all, get the game. Anyone saying the game is bad are likely just angry with all of the features that got taken out. I'm not saying that's wrong because that's their definition of a bad game. I am bothered by all of that too but the gameplay really helps make up for it and for me, all of those things don't make it a bad game.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Warning, long post ahead!
I haven't played a modern simulation baseball game since MLB 2k11 on the 360, so when I found out The Show was coming to XBOX I was ecstatic. Baseball has always been my first love in sports and I go all the way back to playing Intellivision Baseball (look it up kids, if you want to see how good we have it now!)
I picked this up yesterday for Xbox One and was able to get the "pre game" game in where you are learning the game, as well as the an actual Live game where I played the Cards vs Nats. Here are my thoughts so far, but keep in mind I'm completely fresh to The Show, so you might get a chuckle from these:
The Good
- I love the different ways to control hitting, pitching, and fielding. It's amazing they're able to balance all of those styles and still make the game enjoyable no matter which you decide to use.
- The little things. I put up a post in that thread if you want to read it, but let me just say they do an amazing job giving the players emotion and style which makes the game truly immersive.
- Pinpoint pitching is challenging in the best way possible. I got better at it as the night went on and enjoyed how I wasn't able to just pick my spots pitch after pitch. When I missed, it wasn't because the CPU was messing with me, it was simply my fault. That's all I can ask for. I'm not on a high difficulty yet, but I also wasn't getting creamed every time for leaving a pitch up, letting it ride over the plate, etc. When I did get burned it felt like I had just played with fire one too many times.
- Dynamic difficulty. I've got to ease myself back into it, but I was determined to start at Veteran. By the end of the the night I was downgraded to Rookie on hittingand was trending up beyond Veteran in pitching. The fact they are separate is HUGE and makes the game enjoyable without having to screw with sliders constantly like I've had to in the past.
The Bad
- Framerate on Xbox One. This was the one thing that had me hesitant to purchase and I feel like it is not getting enough attention at the moment. I watched several streams before deciding to pull the trigger, but the frame rate is really an eye sore for a modern game. Hopefully they can do something about it. It's not as noticeable during an at bat, but it's definitely noticeable during fielding and it's particularly bad in cut scenes. I saw someone on Twitter called it MLB The Slide Show for Xbox One, and while that's a really funny comment, it hits a little too close to the truth sometimes.
Summary: I definitely do not regret my purchase and I look forward to getting into the game again and eventually into Franchise.Comment

Was a proud proponent of the game since i own 2015 MLB the show and up!
did any of the developers actually play this game or any other previous version? the number 1 rule is know your own product. how can you guys butcher RTTS so badly? removed sounds of the show is one thing; linking RTTS to DD; somebody should loose their jobs......Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Impressions Thread
Best version to date, and I’ve played them all.
Love, love, love the new Pin-Point Pitching. Is it any coincidence that the first year the game is available on the Xbox, the pitching mechanic was flat-out borrowed from the 2K series? I think not. Awesome. So much fun.
I love the bat sounds. It sounds like a wooden bat against a leather ball. It does not have to sound like a firecracker. I love the thud.
I still find it amazing that after being on OS for almost 20 years, there will be complaints about a Nike Swoosh being on the wrong side of a chest protector, because it “ruins the immersion” but a baserunner can morph through the first baseman with no regards to the principles of matter and two objects not occupying the same space at the same time. Still no next-gen collision detection, but the shade of green in a compression-sleeve being the wrong tint is a game killer. I read these and laugh.
I loaded my same sliders from last year, and my first three exhibition games were perfect, no fielding issues, no throwing issues with analog fielding, and no outfield misplays whatsoever. I hope they don’t make a patch that fixes nothing broken. So far, three games in... so good.
Pin-point pitching is ridiculously fun. Seriously, I’m waking people now and manipulating the release for nastier stuff. Painting the corners and 3-0 counts are nerve wracking. Excellent implementation.
In three games I have seen so many new animations, such a nice and needed update to situational fielding and sliding. Really nice job.
I’m used to the menus already. And I like all the info I can get without scrolling trough button presses and jumping through hoops.
More check swings are strikes this year. Not sure I agree with the animation and the outcome but at least it can go either way this year.
The ball has had some new spin and flight rate worked on. It’s different and really good.
Replays of pitches and swings show how good the animation team has become... slo-mo captures are so good.
7pm games look like twilight. I don’t know how they did it, but partly-cloudy 7pm games in April at Fenway look awesome. So impressive.
So, yes only three games in, but I’ll report back after my first ten and have my slider set up in the vault.
This is the best one yet. No contest.
