I could handle no night games in created parks, but no way for real teams.

I’m on ps5 if that makes a difference.

It has not and likely will not be.

Re: MLB the Show 21 Q&A

For those like me who were waiting to buy a PS5 and MLB The Show 21 together but sadly are still waiting for a PS5 and instead are stuck with PS4 and MLB The Show 20. Are we missing out a lot from a gameplay stand point?

Long story short has gameplay been greatly improved from 20 to 21?

At this point since I still do not have a PS5 I am going to just skip 21 altogether and really hope by the launch of MLB The Show 22 I will finally get my hands on a PS5.

So I am hoping gameplay in 22 PS5 version will be much better coming from 20 on PS4!

I think you will get a lot of mixed answers here. There are parts where 21 plays better (fielding) but then took a step backwards (check swing changes, hitting feels different).

To put it in perspective: I played 20 on PS4 until the end of February. I got a PS5 then and played 20 for a month before 21 came out. I played 21 on the PS5 putting in about 100 hours total between gameplay, simming seasons, and tweaking rosters. I uninstalled 21 from my PS5 back in June and went back to 20 (though on PS5) and haven't looked back. I think 20 played better on the PS4 (and better on the PS5) than 21 does.

21 is not a bad game. It's not. But 20 is a better game. On the field, gameplay overall feels more solid on 20. Something always felt off on 21 to me.

As far as off the field, it is also a mixed bag. I would give the edge to 20 here as the trade and budget logic was worked on in 21 but is a work in progress.

My 2 cents is to stick with 20. I honestly wish I would have if I knew I would still be playing 20 and shelving 21 the earliest I have ever shelved a Show game.

Is there no way to change the DH rules for a franchise already in progress?

                That’s a shame.

Unrelated question - what should I do to tweak injuries to have a few more but nothing crazy? I play every mlb game and there are very few in-game injuries (occasionally someone will get hurt diving/sliding or a pitcher throwing but that’s very rare)

I play games with the injury slider at 8, and sim with it at 6 (although I keep minor league games at 5 so I dont completely deplete the farm system). Even with the slider at 8 it's a little low, however when I tried at 9 I had 3 injuries on 2 days so that seemed a little much

Is there a way to trigger behind the back throws by infielders? Is it tied to defensive ratings? Just random?

To my knowledge there isn't a way to manually trigger the behind the back throws.

And I believe I remember it being stated, that its tied to ratings so that not all players do it.

I know this is an older post but I’ve not been on OS for a while, but it’s so weird that I was thinking the same thing just yesterday and looked into my play time over the last six versions of MLB The Show (there’s no data for 15 or prior it seems) and it shows up as follows:

                        16: 746 hours
                        17: 876 hours
                        18: 742 hours
                        19: 850 hours
                        20: 575 hours

                        and… wait for it…

                        21: 117 hours

Admittedly probably about 25% of game time is idle time before it goes into sleep mode.

The lower hours for 20 are because back in March I was determined to get the 19 platinum so switched back for a month.

In terms of (franchise) gameplay, something changed in 18 for the worse. I went from a losing record in all-star hitting difficulty to NLCS in HoF hitting difficulty (I bumped it up in 18). I didn’t suddenly get much better (back playing 17 now and making the same mistakes but not winning). 18 was too forgiving.

I’m predominantly a non-DD player and have found 21 to be a letdown. Apart from all the bugs in the first few months, its fabrication of exciting gameplay situations is so glaringly obvious with its AI misfields, mistake pitches, AI baserunning and convenient choices of what becomes a hit or not based on the situation, among other factors really feels like control has been taken away from the user.

So much so that I reinstalled 17 and am playing that instead. And instead of playing The Show for 10 hours a week (which is what I did since TS15) I’ve lost interest and am probably putting in maybe 3. And that’s total hours on all games, not just The Show.

Need to dust off the old PSVR I think.

Franchise question: even though all Gameplay Mode settings are "Manual", the CPU keeps setting my active 26-man roster for the playoffs as I Advance Day from the last day of the regular season.

Does anyone have any suggestions or workarounds?

Yeah I think depending on the rating and the position of the player and their momentum it triggers the animation, but there's no way to manually trigger it.

                                Yes, all postseason eligible.

Seems the CPU grabs all of the highest rated playoff eligible players from your 40man. Consequently, it remakes key pieces of your minor league lineup/rotation/bullpen, which is problematic if your AA or AAA teams are still in the playoffs. Importantly, it does not appear to burn incremental Player Options for players that get sent down or called up from your MLB team that were not moved thus far in the season.

In terms of workaround, within Roster, you can add or remove players from the Playoff Roster the CPU sets, just like you would to send down/call up players. However, if the CPU has backfilled one of your AA players to AAA, you cannot revert that player back to AA. Once advanced into the Playoff home screen menu, there is no more moving players amongst minor league levels . That is a pain.
