Padres take game one of series in dramatic fashion, then offense flounders in games one and two. Dodgers win 2 of 3 at Petco in battle for first place early on this season.

    Game one: Padres (6 11 0) vs Dodgers (5 8 0)

    W- K. Kela (2-1) SP M. Clevinger 5.1ip 5h 5k 0bb 4er

      ~~Padres injury news~~

SP Chris Paddack went down with a shoulder injury in game two of the Brewers series. He will be out for 40 days. He was recalled to the club to replace still injured SP Blake Snell. Paddack was in the middle of his 2nd start and was pitching a dandy.

Again, I sim the game and note injuries first so all is fair determining injuries. Just unlucky Paddack was injured after 3.2ip in the sim. The same game Brewers SP Corbin Burnes also was injured after 1.1ip. His was a neck sprain and won't miss any starts though luckily for them.

~~SP Ryan Weathers will fill into the starting rotation now, coming out of his LRP role. In 7 appearances out of the bullpen Weathers (1-1 4.09era) has allowed 14 hits, including one homerun and 5k 4bb in 11ip.

Looking ahead, his first start will be in Dodger stadium vs Clayton Kershaw as well. Oh boy! [emoji51]

PotG- SP Brandon Woodruff with 10 strikeouts, no walks in 8 innings.

        Game two: Padres (2 6 0) vs Brewers (1 5 0)

        Game three: Padres (4 16 0) vs Brewers (2 7 0)

Cardinals recent struggles result in losing touch with Brewers

The Cardinals have lost 6 of their last 8 ballgames and now find themselves 10 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central, with about 6 weeks of baseball left to play. The Cardinals are still within 3 games of the Braves for the 2nd wildcard spot.

The Cardinals just can't find ways to win ballgames right now. If the pitching is good the bats are silent. If the bats are putting up runs, pitching is giving up more. Or both are bad.

The Cardinals aren't out of the NL Central race, yet, at least mathematically, but unless something changes and soon (like in Pittsburgh), the Cardinals could find themselves hoping to earn a wildcard bid. The Cardinals have 13 games left with the Central leading Brewers, so there is the opportunity to potentially control your own destiny.

The Cardinals will look to turn things around as they head to Pittsburgh this week for a 3 game series with the Pirates and then to Kansas City for a 3 game series with the Royals over the weekend.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

              Minnesota Twins 2021 Franchise

2021 Season Preview. High Hopes Finally Materialize
Opening Day is nearing and that means it’s time to preview what to expect from those high octane Minnesota Twins. The offseason wasn’t especially busy for the Twin Cities franchise, but this is a very good roster that will compete for both the AL Central title and even a World Series if they can finally overcome the playoff curse.

              Lineup: Chicks Dig The Longball
              C: Mitch Garver
              1B: Miguel Sano
              2B: Jorge Polanco
              3B: Josh Donaldson
              SS: Andrelton Simmons
              LF: Jake Cave
              CF: Byron Buxton
              RF: Max Kepler
              DH: Nelson Cruz
This lineup could be one of the absolute best in baseball. Cruz continues to launch home runs in the face of father time, turning 41-years old this season. He’ll anchor a unit that should give most opposing pitchers fits as there are almost no weak spots to exploit. Even if someone gets past the presumed upper half of Kepler, Donaldson, Cruz, and Polanco, there are still dangerous threats.
Sano remains a good slugger even if he strikes out in over 35 percent of his plate appearances. Buxton had a career-high .577 slugging and is a nightmare on the base path. The question is will he stay healthy?

              The Rotation:Maeda and The Band
              Kenta Maeda
              Jose Berrios
              Michael Pineda
              J.A. Happ
              Matt Shoemaker
The one-two punch of Maeda and Berrios is very exciting. Maeda looked every bit like an ace last year after joining the team via a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Berrios still has tremendous promise even if he hasn’t turned into a truly dominant starter as many have expected.

Top Prospects: The Kids Are Allright
              1. Royce Lewis, SS (MLB No. 17)
              2. Alex Kirilloff, OF/1B (MLB No. 26)
              3. Trevor Larnach, OF (MLB No. 80)
              4. Jordan Balazovic, RHP (MLB No. 97)
While the Twins don’t currently have a top 10 farm system, it’s still a solid and fairly deep one that will keep sending talented players up to the big leagues to help them continue competing. Even with the season-ending knee injury to top prospect Royce Lewis, four of the Twins’ top six prospects should be ready to contribute this season, with several others beyond that prepared to chip in as well. That group is highlighted by No. 2 prospect Alex Kirilloff, who made his big league debut in the postseason last year.

              Final Thoughts: Postseason Misery Worries
Perhaps the most noteworthy thing about them for a mainstream audience is that they haven’t won a postseason game since October 4th, 2004. Since that last playoff win in Game 1 of the 2004 American League Division Series, the Twins have lost in the Division Series by way of sweep four times, lost a one-game wild card, and lost in last year’s expanded playoff wild card round. That’s a cumulative total of 18 games. Will this be the season they finally get a playoff victory, let alone a series victory? The bigger question is can the team hold off the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland and the up and coming Kansas City Royals? The best case scenario is this team continues sending the ball into the seats, worst case, age has caught up to them and the aging veterans finally fall off.
The team's success hinges on older players like Cruz, Happ, and Donaldson. The AL Central could be one of the more exciting races in the league this year.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

We our first homestand at Truist. We went 3-4. Our record is at 7-6. Tied for second with the Phils, Nats and Mets at 1.0GB of the 1st place Marlins at 8-5.

Our hot SP on this young season is Fried(1-2, 2.14ERA,21.0IP); Ian(1-0,1.86ERA, 19.1IP) and Morton(1-1,2.63ERA, 13.2IP).
Bullpen Standouts are Luke Jackson(8.0IP,4H,7K & 0.00ERA) and Matzek (8.1IP,2HLD,5H & 1.08ERA). I go to them often and they have answered the bell. CP Will Smith is a perfect 4 of 4 in save opp with an 0.00ERA.

Offensively RF Acuna Jr. is batting .380, 2HR, 4RBi and 8R. 2B Albies leads the team with 9RBI batting behind Acuna. 1B Fab 5 Freddie is getting it going, batting .280,2HR,7RBI, with 5(2B).

We are hitting the road for five games. 3 vs. the Cubs and 2 vs. NYY. Looking forward I have never played virtually in the franchise in the Bronx.

Cards sweep Pirates to get back into divisional race

The Cardinals swept the Pirates in a 3 game series and with the help of the Cubs, find themselves back within striking distance of the Brewers of the NL Central race. The Cardinals are now 7 games back of the Brewers and still have 13 games left on the schedule against the Central division leaders.

The Cards pulled off the sweep with dominant pitching and noisy bats as they scored 27 runs in the 3 games while giving up 5. Nolan Arenado hit 5 homeruns and drove in 11 runs during the series and Dylan Carlson's stint in Memphis is paying off as he was 6 for 7 in his two games played with 3 doubles and 5 RBI's.

Carlos Martinez earned his 14th win of the year on Tuesday pitching 8 innings of 1 run 3 hit ball. He was pulled for a pinch hitter in the 9th after hitting 123 pitches after 8 innings.

The Cardinals will travel now to Kansas City for a 3 game series with the Royals.

Cardinals place Alex Reyes on 15 Day IL

The injury bug strikes again as the Cards have placed closer Alex Reyes on the 15 day IL with a strained oblique.

The 26 year old left Wednesday's game against the Pirates in the 9th after throwing just 5 pitches. Reyes was in the game just to get work after having not pitched for 4 days.

Reyes has been an extremely pleasant surprise this season earning the closer role out of spring training and has converted 30 out of 31 save opportunities. He has a 0.66 ERA with a WHIP of 0.87. His K per 9 rating is an astounding 14. He was also a first time all-star selection this year.

Reyes will likely return around Labor Day. The Cardinals just activated David Robertson from the 15 day IL so he will take the vacant bullpen spot.

After these it will be end of April. An angry team travels to Arizona looking to put up some runs after scoring only 7 total in the four game series in LA.

Arenado doing Arenado things: 5HR's in the series. Way to go!
