    Thank goodness for the Pirates.

We’ve righted the ship with a four-game sweep over Pittsburgh. Still in second in the East behind the Mets, but we’re only a half game back now.

Acuna now has 22 homers through 47 games.

Padres take first two vs Mariners, then a huge comeback in the 9th gave Mariners the final game of series. Padres win series 2-1.

      Game one: Padres (6 9 1) vs Mariners (1 5 0)

      W- M. Clevinger (5-1) 6ip 3h 8k 0bb 1er
      L- L. Newsome (1-2) 4ip 5h 4k 4bb 3er
      HRs- W. Meyers (4,5), J. Fraley (5)
      PotG- RF Wil Meyers; 2-4 2HR, 2RBI

      Game two: Padres (4 8 0) vs Mariners (2 5 0)

      W- M. Melancon (1-0) SP D. Lamet 1ip 0h 3k (left with injury)...only out a few days thankfully.
      L- D. Steckenrider (2-6) SP M. Gonzales 6ip 5h 6k 2bb 2er
      HRs- M. Haniger (6)
      PotG- 3B Manny Machado; 1-2 2BB, 1R, RBI
**A 3 run 7th inning gave us the 4-2 lead and eventual win.

      Game three: Padres (4 9 0) vs Mariners (6 8 2)

      W- C. Flexen (3-4) SP J. Sheffield 4ip 6h 3k 3bb 4er
      L- A. Adams (4-1) SP Y. Darvish 7ip 4h 6k 2bb 0er
      SV- R. Montero (9)
      HRs- M. Machado (12), K. Lewis (9), D. Moore (4)
      PotG- LRP Chris Flexen; 4ip 2h 7k 2bb 0er

**4th inning lead off walk. E3 on double play ball. Pham rbi single. Machado with 3 run HR to give us a 4-0 lead. Sadly would be our only runs scored of the game.

**9th inning up 4-0 Kyle Lewis leads off with a HR on Kela (4-1). Osuna in and walks next batter. Ty France hard hit ball to Cronenworth. It takes a hop and gets past him for a double. Osuna then hits Marmolejos to load the bases. I bring in Adams. Gives up bases loaded rbi single (4-2). Dylan Moore up next and crushes a freaking grand slam to finish the remarkable comeback 6-4.

      ~~Injury news~~

~Mariners C Luis Torrens out 1-2 months. Recalled C Cal Raleigh. C Tom Murphy in both lineups.

      Up next: Padres (30-17, 2nd NL West, 1gb) @ Brewers (22-24, 3rd NL Central, 4gb)

      Game one: J. Musgrove (5-2 3.26era 39k) vs C. Burnes (1-5 4.12era 66k)

      Game two: R. Weathers (1-2 4.32era 25k) vs A. Houser (3-3 3.96era 49k)

      Game three: M. Clevinger (5-1 2.61era 46k) vs F. Peralta (2-3 5.56era 59k)

      Game four: D. Lamet (3-5 2.40era 49k) vs B. Anderson (3-3 5.19era 36k)

After the conclusion of an uneventful Spring Training, the Kansas City Royals head home to kick off the 2021 season against the Texas Rangers.

The offseason saw the Royals bring in veterans Andrew Benintendi, Carlos Santana, Michel Taylor, and Hanser Alberto in hopes of stabilizing the lineup. Fans are especially excited by the addition of Carlos Santana. He has been a thorn in the Royals side for many years as a member of the ALC foe Cleveland Indians. He is expected to add a disciplined element to the lineup and provide a little pop.

The starting rotation will depend on large part on Brady Singer and Kris Bubic taking steps forward in the first full season of their careers, after the COVID shortened seasons in which they made their debuts. We can also expect to see drop prospects Daniel Lynch, Jackson Kowar, and Asa Lacy making a push to prove they belong on the big league team.

All in all there is a tangible amount of fan expectation that they can contend for the postseason this season. Can they stay competitive in a division that saw the Indians take a step back, leaving the White Sox as the clear cut favorite, or will the Royals already be thinking of the future early in the season as they have recently?

          OPENING DAY
Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium had a great start for the home team against the visiting Texas Rangers. Brad Keller got the ball to kick off the new year and was terrific in the top of the first, getting the Rangers out in order.

In the bottom of the first Hunter Dozier took a first pitch hanging breaking ball and hit it into the left field bleachers to make it 1-0 Kansas City.

The great start however didn’t amount to much as Keller came back out to start the second and didn’t have his command. He gave up four runs in inning before getting through it.

Royals star catcher Salvador Perez hit a solo HR in the second to make it 4-2 but that would be the extent of the Royals offense in this game.

The Royals were counting on Keller to correct his issues so he could give them a few more innings but he gave up two more runs in the third and was pulled after the inning. The only bright spot in this game was the 6 scoreless innings pitched by the bullpen.

The Royals would have a handful of chances but could never get on the board again and drop the series opener, 6-2.

After dropping the first game of the Series, the KC Royals got a win to even the series. Behind Duffy’s strong six innings and clutch hitting they won 5-3.

This was a back and forth game with the Royals scoring first on a Salvador Perez HR, but then the Rangers pulling even a few innings later. The Royals would once again take the lead, but Duffy surrender this lead as well, allowing a pair of runs, allowing Texas to take a 3-2 lead into the middle of the 5th.

It was an Andrew Benintendi two run HR that put KC up for good. The Rangers would score a run in the 8th to make it interesting but Hanser Alberto drove in a run in the bottom of the 8th to give the Royals a 2 run fusion which was more than enough for Staumont. The Royals will look to win the series, before heading to Cleveland for a two game set vs the Indians.

The get a quality start out of Mike Minor in this game as he goes 6.1 innings, giving up only one run on five hits and striking out 7. The offense production was spread out with all five runs being drive in by different players. The Royals win the series 2-1 and head to Cleveland.

I will now be giving series updates and not every game (162 updates would be crazy).

I asked this in the Q and A thread but maybe I’ll get a quicker response here.

Dose the trade block fluctuate? Are players added and removed during the season?

I’m only in May in my franchise, so I haven’t seen it change yet. But in previous versions it does change, so I assume it does on 21 too. Usually when you get to late June/early July, teams update their block.

                    Sweet, thanks.

I’ve never paid much attention to it previously.

                        All-Star Break - 2022

After 18 straight games without an off day, the All-Star break couldn't have come at a better time. The first few weeks after the draft went well. We won 11 of 16 games putting us 12 games over.500 at 39-27. Then things started to go south. We got swept by the A's, lost 2 of 3 to the Mariners. Split 2 games with the Cubs, Lost 3 of 4 to the White Sox and Twins, Lost 2 of 3 to the Tigers, and then got swept by the Twins. We did end the first half on a high note taking 3 of 4 from the Indians. But we now sit just 2 games over.500 at 47-45 still good enough for 2nd in the division but we are now 9.5 games back of the Twins. As well as 2 games behind the Blue Jays for the 2nd Wild Card spot.

                        Transactions
                        Spoiler

The offense has slowly gotten worse as the season has progressed. We are hitting .250/.318/.404. Good for 15th, 21st, and 19th in the league. We have the 18th most runs scored with 371(4.03 per game). Our 149 Doubles, 24 Triples, and 95 Home Runs are 8th, 3rd and 21st overall. We have been good at on the basepaths and not striking out. We are 4th in SB and SB% with 75 SB and a 72.8% success rate. And we have the least Strikeouts in the league with 603. Taking walks on the other hand continues to be a not so common outcome for us with 300 so far putting us 20th in the league. The defense has also struggled through the first half. We are 23rd with 43 Errors so far and 22nd with a .987 Fielding %.

                        Offensive Stats
                        Spoiler

Despite having only 185 Plate Appearances it's safe to say Ohtani has been the best hitter on the team. Leads the team in AVG, OBP, and SLG. Tied for the lead in HR. And 2nd in Offensive WAR only .1 behind Merrifield for 1st. With a 6 man rotation, he is currently batting 3 out of 6 days with days off before at after starts. He started the last game before the break and since he was going to have plenty of time to rest we let him hit as well. Going to see how he can handle that going forward to try and get his bat in the lineup even more. Hunter Dozier has continued to be one of the best bats in the lineup putting up a career-high .937 OPS. And Salvador Perez is having a nice bounce-back season after suffering an ACL tear 16 games into last season. Tied with Ohtani with 15 HRs and has an OBP over .300 for only the 2nd time since 2013. His fielding hasn't been quite as good as it once was with 6 errors on the season already. The first came on May 1st and was his first in 1700 days. His last error was on September 3rd, 2017. Over 4 and a half years but thanks to injuries and a shortened season it was only 223 games.

After last season the current performance of the bullpen has been a major letdown. The team ERA isn't totally terrible currently 17th in the league at 4.11. But the players currently in the pen have a 4.42 ERA and is much closer to 5 when you include Grant Gavin and Rueben Huerta who were both pushing 6 before being sent down. It's not all bad though having allowed 105 HRs good for 9th in the league as well as being 3rd in strikeouts with 768. Walks though have been bad as we are currently 25th in the league with 346.

                        Pitching Stats
                        Spoiler

Much like batting, Ohtani is easily the best pitcher on the team so far. The 6 man rotation has worked perfectly for him so far. Leading the team in WAR, ERA, WHIP, FIP, and Strikeouts which he also leads the league in. He has also managed to throw 3 complete games so far tieing him for the league lead. Brady Singer though has taken a major step back. 5.48 ERA in 93.2 IP after putting up a 3.32 ERA in 190 innings last season. His FIP is only 4.16 so hopefully, he can turn things around in the 2nd half. His BB/9 seems to be the only major difference being over 1 walk higher. His HR/9 is basically the same and his 5/9 has jumped by over 1 as well. Out in the pen we have 2 guys who I would say are doing well and 2 who are doing good enough. A far change from the end of last season when we had 4 players with an ERA at 2.50 or less and another at 3.50. Rolando Gunn has the lowest ERA at 3.58. Barlow in 55.2 innings is at 3.72 and Josh Staumont sits at 4.18 in 32.1 innings. The biggest disappointment is Kyle Zimmer easily. 1.57 and 2.47 in 2020 and 2021. Has jumped all the way up to 6.20 in 24.2 innings so far. And his FIP is even worse at 6.32. K/9 is lower, BB/9 is up and his HR/9 has more than doubled.

                        All-Star Game Starters and Result
                        Spoiler

The run of division games continues as we come out of the break. All 17 games in July have been against a division opponent and the next 6 will be as well. We face the 46-46 Indians on the road before heading up to Minnesota to take on the division-leading Twins. 37 games before September with 21 of them against teams at or over .500. Only 16 of them home games and 15 against the division. Though the division looks like a long shot to win we are still in the Wild Card race so we could make a move to help the pen out. Though I'm not sure who we would be included in a deal yet. Trading Santana is a possibility if we happen to completely **** the bed before the deadline.

Padres manage to take three of four in a huge road series win over a hood Brewers team! We are now tied with the Dodgers with identical records, however they've won 3 of 5 against me so...

                          Game one: Padres (5 6 0) @ Brewers (3 4 2)

                          W- J. Musgrove (6-2) 6ip 3h 3k 2bb 2er

**12-0 shutout loss was hard to swallow. Game three we used that loss as motivation to come out hitting. That continued into game 4 as well.

After this series I'll be at the MLB draft. I'll make a post for that separately and probably create another post to give a look at the league leaders, my team stats etc. Been flying through the season playing every game. Really having a blast. Just wish I could get some more HRs with this so called Slam Diego team.

I've been lazy in trying to update my franchise, but here is the end of season wrap-up:

Cardinals stumble down the stretch to miss the playoffs

The Cardinals (85-77) stumbled in the month of September/October and missed the playoffs by 5 games in the wildcard behind the surging Cubs and 7 games behind the Brewers in the Central. The Cardinals went just 12-18 over the season's final 30 games to watch a 1 game lead in the wildcard turn into misfortune.

Yes, you could point to injuries (Molina and Flaherty missed part of September and Goldschmidt and Wainwright missed nearly all of September suffering injuries on the same day), but the reality is the Cardinals were too inconsistent this year to really be contenders. Twice in the month of September, the Cardinals lost 5 straight games, something a playoff caliber squad shouldn't do in the final month of the season while in the heat of a pennant race.

The Cubs were world beaters in the final month as they won 22 games to not only earn the 2nd wildcard game, but come 2 games away from tying the Brewers for the NL Central crown after entering the month 6 games back.

Below is a look at the final standings across the league:

                            <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/w-Eku5-fGkM" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The Dodgers are the best team in baseball winning 116 games and winning the NL West by 14 games, despite the Padres winning 102 games. :wow:

The Yankees are the class of the American League and look extremely solid with the addition of Trevor Story earlier this year. The Yankees really were never threatened in the AL East once we entered the month of May.

The playoffs are about to begin and the Cardinals will start working on fixing their issues so that they are playing baseball in the month of October.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
