Indians 1B Jake Bauers out 1-2 months. Recalled 2B Owen Miller. 1B Yu Chang/2B Owen Miller to split time at 1B

Indians SP Shane Bieber out 2-3 months. Sign free agent SP Tomoyuki Sugano (1yr 70k). He will take spot in rotation in Bieber's absence.

That's now the Indians #1 and #2 SP both out 2-3 months. Crazy! I felt best option was to sign the free agent on the cheap for them. He's a 31 year old rookie. I assume a real player since I'm using Cy's roster. But Indians are in deep trouble with their two best arms on the IL for a while.

Draft Day - 2022

With almost a 3rd of the season in the books, the Royals are tied with the Twins for first in the Central at 28-22. We had a strong May going 18-10 including 12-6 against the division. The Yankees and Mets are tied for the best record overall at 35-17 while the Tigers have the worst record at 14-34.

Offensively we have been pretty average so far. Our .261 average is 7th best. But our OBP and SLG are both 16th at .324 and .418. We are 15th in Runs scored with 213, 8th in Doubles with 83, 3rd in Triples with 15, and 23rd in Home Runs with 52. As usual, we are not good at taking walks with only 155 so far putting us at 21st overall. And we aren't striking much with 332 good for 3rd. On the base paths, we are 3rd in Stolen Base % at .769 with 40 steals on 52 attempts.

Among qualified hitters, Salvy has been our best so far. Hitting .295/.331/.488 with 9 HR. But Shohei Ohtani has been the real star so far. In 85 at-bats he is hitting .353/.461/.800 with 10 HR and 8 doubles. I gotta figure out how to get him more at-bats without tanking his pitching. We made the decision to send Adalberto Mondesi down to AAA after just 15 games from him. I wanted to start him off slow by playing only LHP to start the season but he couldn't even do that well. He hit just .108/.175/.189 in 37 AB. He has been in AAA for about 5 weeks now and it's not going all that well. He is hitting just .193/.303/.353 in 102 AB.

On the mound, things definitely aren't as good as they were last season but it's not terrible. We are 13th in ERA at 3.92, 7th in HR allowed with 54, and 25th in Walks with 189. Surprisingly we are 3rd in strikeouts with 416 so far. Defensively we are 16th in Fielding % at .988 as we are tied for 12th with 22 errors.

We have been using a 6 man rotation for most of the season to get Ohtani as much rest as possible. It has definitely worked so far with 5 of our 6 starters putting up an ERA of 4 or less with Chance Adams sitting at 4.44 in 46.2 IP. Ohtani leads the team in pretty much everything but IP. with 3.20 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 69 SO in 50.2 IP. The bullpen is where the biggest regression has come. Scott Barlow leads our relievers with a 3.12 ERA in 34.2 IP. Kyle Zimmer has the best WHIP at 0.93 in 15 IP. Josh Staumont has a 4.74 ERA in the closer spot. Only 2 blown saves so far though. And his FIP is only 2.63.

This was far from the best draft in team history. Very very far. Our first pick was 20 year old Felix Morales. A quick outfielder with a good first step who can't throw the ball 20 feet. And when does try to throw it that far the ball has a better chance of ending up in the stands than in the glove of his target. He has some power but making contact with the ball is asking a lot and taking walks is out of the question. Its also possible he breaks every bone in his body on any given play. Our 2nd pick has the brightest future from the class though he doesn't really profile well at his primary position. 20 year old 1B Yusniel Francisco has possibly the best bat in the league when it comes to AVG. Could easily develop into a consistent .300 hitter. But with very little power his slugging percentage might end up being the same. Decent fielder with below-average speed. If he can develop a little more power he has a chance to be a very good pick. Our 3rd pick 19-year-old 3B Brian Francisco is decent in the field. I hope you didn't expect more cause that's all he has. 4th pick 21-year-old Catcher Diego Gutierrez could be a solid backup in the future but he doesn't project for much more than that. Has a strong arm with somewhat decent contact. 21-year-old reliever Ken Rader was our 5th pick. Not particularly bad at anything. Just not great anywhere either. Throws a 4 seamer at 93 with a Shange, Curve, and Slider. I won't say he has no future on the team but he would have to work harder than everyone else every day. Our 6th pick 22-year-old Catcher Michael Dern has a lot in common with Brian Escobar. He also pretty much completely sucks. And with our 7th and last pick we took 20-year-old reliever, Tim Henry. Much like Ken Rader he has a long road ahead of him if he wants to make the majors. He has a 4 seamer at 92 with a cutter and slider. Has a tendency to miss his spots and get hit hard.

The Pirates made the right choice taking consensus #1 Ike Tyner. Has future Dodger all over him when the Pirates don't pay him. Rookie of the year, Gold Glove, MVP. He is as good as anyone that has come out in recent years.

We have 42 games left before the All-Star Break. Almost an even 50/50 split of home and road as well as teams above and below .500. 25 of them are against teams in the division including all 17 in July. We are currently 14-7 against the division so if things can keep going like that we can build up a nice lead. Andrew Benintendi should be back in the next few weeks. Edward Olivares has been playing very well in his place hitting .297/.342/.428 in 138 AB. Neither us or the Twins have a Wild Card spot currently should we fall out of the division lead.

Nope. Had some during the year but healthy at the end. Cronenworth was down for some time but Kim stepped in nicely and won ROY. And yes a full rotation of Darvish, Snell, Lamet, Clev and Musgrove was very nice to have lol.

I just lost Snell for almost 2 months. Just started in mid April though. Paddock got a win his first start after being recalled from AAA. And Kim has been clutch early on when he gets his opportunities.

Cubs Wrap Up: 2020 Presented by Jay

The Cubs Keep Rolling Through May.
The Pirates were in town after the Cubs day off on thursday. After sweeping the Cubs in the opening day series, the Pirates have only mustered 6 additional wins on the year and come in at 9 and 21. On the off it was announced that Willson Contreras would return from his bruised shin and start against the lefty Tyler Anderson; Anderson has been hit hard so far this season and sported an ERA in the mid 8’s. The Cubs continued the trend even when the wind was blowing in from left field to right. Chicago got things going with a big 1st inning when Duffy tripled and Baez drove him in with a 2 run home run. Rizzo would make it back to back home runs for the early 3-0 lead. The Cubs were not done as Happ got on to set up another 2 run bomb, this time by Joc Pederson. The Cubs would finish off the inning as David Bote would get his first home run of the year as the Cubs would have all 9 men in the lineup bat in the first inning. Anderson would leave the game after Bote’s home run; only getting 2 outs while giving up 4 home runs. Baez would strike again in the 3rd as he went yard for the 2nd time in the day. The Cubs would cruise with Davies on the bump as he would take the shout out into the 9th. Davies would give up 2 runs in the 9th to end his complete game bid but the Cubs would get the win 7-2, their 20th on the year as they now sit at 20-12 0.5 games behind the Cardinals for first place in the Central. The Cubs bats would stay alive in games 2 as they got the 8-0 shut out behind a solid effort from Trevor Williams. In the final game Hendricks would give up the early lead when Hendricks would give 2 runs early but the cubs would tie it in 4th and take the lead 4 to 2 in the 6th. The Cubs sliced through the back half of a tired Pirates bullpen to make the final 7-4 after Danny Santana blasted a 3 run home run.

Next Chicago would start a 5 interleague road trip as they would have 2 against Cleveland before facing the Tigers for 3 in Detroit. The Cubs offense kept humming as they swept their AL counterparts 5-0, taking their winning streak to 11 games. Timely hitting kept up as they made good use of the DH position. In the final game of the road trip Ian Happ had himself a day as he went 5 for 6 including 3 home runs and drove in 9 runs. The Cubs take the quick flight back to the Friendly Confines for 4 games against the Nats before traveling south to play St. Louis for the first time in 2021

The offseason and spring training has come to a close as the 2022 Regular Season is about to begin for the Devils.

2021 Retirement:
Homer Bailey, Rusney Castillo, and Edwin Encarnacion

Free Agency:
Early in the offseason the Devils acquired the services of Kyle Schwarber in Free Agency for 1yr 4M to fill in the hole left by Edwin.
The Devils lucked out acquiring Adam Haseley in Free Agency giving him a 2yr 2.6M deal to play Centerfield.
The Devils made some minor moves acquiring Jacob Nottingham, Kyle Funkhouser, Alex Reyes, and Yu Chang on minor deals.
The Devils also improved the rotation by adding Andrew Heaney to the club on a 2yr 36M deal, Merrill Kelly on a 1yr 5M deal, and Daniel Norris on a 1yr 5M deal for the Pen.

Rule 5:
The Devils were able to swoop in and grab Seranthony Dominguez

The Devils reacquired Pedro Pineda from the White Sox for Jeremy Jeffress. They also traded Tyler Thornburg to the Rays for Brent Honeywell

I decided to put August and September together because the months were pretty uneventful. The Devils only won 6 games in August and completely falling out of the playoff picture. In the month of September the team improved a little but not by much finishing the season with a 67-95 record last in the division.

The Devils called up Reynaldo Lopez and Domingo Santana for September to get a look for a possible reunion for next season.

Darnell Sweeney was my only league leader with 9 Triples. He was also my team MVP.

Definitely will be a lot of moving parts this offseason with aging players possibly retiring and some guys I wont bring back.

Braves send Smyly back to San Francisco

The Drew Smyly experiment lasted all of eight starts in Atlanta. After another subpar start where the left-hander failed to get out of the fourth inning, the Braves decided to move on from one of their big offseason acquisitions.

Late Sunday night, the Braves and Giants agreed on a trade sending Smyly to San Francisco in exchange for veteran infielder Donovan Solano. For the Braves it's a chance to erase a mistake made by former General Manager Alex Anthopoulos. It also clears a rotation spot for Sean Newcomb, who was 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA at AAA. Newcomb was recalled Monday to join the Braves rotation.

Solano, 33, was hitting just .228 for San Francisco. But he'll provide a needed right-handed bat off the bench for the Braves, who are a game and a half behind the Mets entering a three-game series against New York at Truist Park. Ehire Adrianza was optioned to Gwinnett to make room for Solano.

The Giants, meanwhile, are hoping Smyly can regain the form he had with the club in 2020 when he posted a 3.42 ERA. He failed to duplicate that success in Atlanta, going 3-3 with a 4.69 ERA. But the Giants, a surprising third in the NL West, hope he can solidify the back end of their rotation.
