Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

So after much thinking and a stint of trying out RttS, I have decided to start a franchise with my Astros.

The problem is, I don’t like playing with all of these guys. So I decided I’m going to hit the reset button. I’m going to get rid of most of the main staples. Bregman, Altuve, Correa, Brantley, Verlander, and Greinke. They will be gone. I’m keeping Alvarez, Gurriel, Tucker, and McCullers.

To get rid of those guys I will use the trade finder option, but I will take the cheapest deal. For the veterans (Verlander, Altuve, Greinke, Brantley), I will be trading for prospects. For the younger guys (Correa and Bregman) I will trade for MLB ready players.

I will then start in Spring Training and decide on my team.

I know this is unconventional but I really wanted a way to build the team my way, and this is my way of doing that.

What’s your plan with Adam Wainwright with the way things are going?

Cards have him in the bullpen in my franchise.

wondering what Atlanta guys are doing w/catchers William Contreras & Shea Langeliers. keep one & trade one (which one which?) or move one to another position? neither one really play another position so where to move who? just interested in seeing if there is some sort of consensus, even from non-Atlanta franchise guys opinions

Well I plan on manually injuring d'Arnaud for his 60 day's and calling up Contreras. The plan is to leave Jackson as the backup. I'll see how Contreras does during his 60 days. I don't plan on resigning d'Arnaud in the offseason as he will be 33. If Contreras struggles I will probably let him, Jackson, and Langeliers battle for the 2 roster spots during spring training and then trade whoever loses out.

As for this season and getting some bullpen help not sure on how I want to go about that yet. Gonna try and hang in there till the all star break and see how Riley is doing. If he's struggling I might try and move him for an arm and just use Camargo at 3B to finish the year.

I just started my Franchise with Ridin's Rosters. I have the rotation same as the Cardinals opening day Rotation. Waino is my # 2 starter. He pitched game 2 , went 6 innings , gave up 3 runs on 7 hits ,striking out 4 and walking 2 in a win.
I opened up the season sweeping the Reds.

I just moved him to the bullpen to see if he can be effective there. If not, I'll likely DFA him, and look to see if there is a viable market for him, or just let him walk.

The 2021 season is about to begin and the Portland Black Racers are getting ready to compete. The Arizona Diamondbacks moved to Portland after ownership sold the team.

I will be playing at Crosley Field for my Home Stadium. The attached logo is the one I’ll be using with the color scheme being mainly Black with Blue and white.

I'll be playing the first game in every divisional game, also games against teams with winning records. Critical situations will be on and I'll be quick simming the majority of the games.

The Black Racers will be opening up against the Padres in San Diego and then moving onto Colorado. The team will open up in Portland against the Reds and A’s

                Opening Day Lineup:
                CF Tim Locastro
                2B Ketel Marte
                LF David Peralta
                1B Christian Walker
                3B Eduardo Escobar
                RF Kole Calhoun

Tempted to purchase MLB 21 with rosters done now. But almost two months into my Reds chise of MLB 20 and not sure if it's worth the upgrade.

Started my annual Blue Jays franchise using Ridins Rosters and TKN sliders. Won opening day 10-4. Bichette had two homers including a grand slam and we chased Cole before he completed two innings. Ryu went 6 innings giving up 3 runs in the win. Team hits were 15 for me and 12 for the Yankees.

Other than the Yates injury (out for the season), I haven’t manually injured anyone on any team. Will likely run out the same lineup for game two with Stripling taking the mound:

                    Springer CF
                    Bichette SS
                    Vlad Jr 1B
                    Hernandez DH
                    Grichuk RF
                    Gurriel Jr LF
                    Semien 2B
                    Biggio 3B
                    Jansen C

                    Bench: Tellez, Panik, Kirk, Espinal

Cubs Wrap Up: 2020 Presented by Jay

Cubs Look To Cool Down Red Hot Pirates

The Cub stand at 3-3 in the early year after getting swept by the Pirates then returning the favor to the Brewers. The Cubs looked to rebound in their first road trip against the Pirates that stand at 5 and 1. Prior to the game Chicago announced a roster move of sending Alzolay down to AAA and bringing up Pedro Strop. The Cubs plan on limiting Alzolay’s innings early in the year and will likely send the youngster down multiple times in between starts. Strop had a solid spring and will provide additional relief to not wear on the bullpen.

In the first game Jake Arrieta faced Chad Kuhl in a repeat match up from a week ago. The Cubs jumped to the early lead after Ian Happ lead off with a home run on a 1-2 pitch. The Cubs were able to keep the train moving as they totaled 5 home runs including 2 from Jason Heyward. Arrieta allowed 3 in 5.1 innings of work but got the win 8 to 3.

The Cubs had a reversal of fortune in the following game as Kris Bryant drove in the only run for the cubs as he hit a solo home run in the 3rd. In what has been the norm this year, Zach Davies was great starting off but the lineup caught up with his stuff the 2nd and 3rd time through. He would go 5 innings giving up 7 hits and 4 runs. The Pirates would pull away in the 9th as Workman found himself in trouble and couldn’t get out of it, giving up 4 runs in the 1-8 defeat.

In the rubber match Trevor Williams would face his former team as the pirates sent out their promising young arm, Mitch Keller. The Cubs got things going early as Rizzo got on with a double in the 1st, his 9th straight game with a hit. Bryant was able to drive him home as he continues to heat up, this time a 2 run blast. The Cubs added another as Rizzo went yard in the 3rd inning before the Pirates would come roaring back. Williams threw 5 innings of 2 hit ball but gave up a series of doubles in the 6th; by the time the inning was over the Cubs found themselves down 3 to 4. The score would remain until the 9th when Danny Santana was able to come up clutch as a pinch hitter. Santana took the first pitcher he saw, a slider from Richard Rodriguez to deep right field for a home run to tie the game. The bullpens were able to manage the extra inning rule without giving up any runs until the 13th inning when the Cubs would go up after a 3 run home by Jake Marinsnick. Chicago wasn’t finished padding their lead as Bote would also pick up 2 RBI’s as well. The Pirates would respond as they were able to get 3 runs in the bottom of the 13th off Brandon Workman before Andrew Chafin came in to seal the 9-7 victory.

Any thoughts on potential rotation upgrades as the season progresses? Really solid farm, and Manoah is looking like a potential gem in a year or two, but the rotation really falls off after Ryu and Ray (Unless Matz is as solid in-game for you as he has been so far IRL).

Franchise presentation is really good, I love the series presentation after a couple of games, it recaps the series at the beginning of the 3rd or 4th game.

Contreras is starting for me in AAA with Langeliers starting in AA. At least for 2021, I'll probably just leave them there. Depending on how they progress, I'll decide what to do for 2022. May try to bring D'Arnaud back for another year if they're not ready.

D'Arnaud and Jackson are my MLB catchers. But I did sign Flowers. He's not on my 40-man, so he's "mentoring" Contreras at AAA for the time being. But Jackson is 0-for-14 for me so far. If he continues to struggle, I'll get Flowers on the MLB team.

I signed Greene back in spring training. Thought about adding Flowers then too, but waited until mid-April in my franchise. Had to give Greene $5M and Flowers $4.2M to sign. So I won't feel bad if I'm able to sign some other guys for less than their real life value.

Cardinals activate Justin Williams from IL

The Cardinals have activated OF Justin Williams from the 10 Day IL. Williams was placed on IL a couple of weeks ago for a MCL sprain. Williams is currently hitting .286 with 1 homerun and 1 RBI in his limited reserve role.

1B/OF John Nogowski was optioned to Memphis to make room for Williams.

Andrew Knizner to the 10 Day IL with knee sprain

The Cardinals have placed catcher Andrew Knizner on the 10 Day IL due to a knee sprain. Knizner was injured rounding third and then holding up. He is expected to miss about 2-3 weeks.

Knizner had been platooning with Tyler Heinemann after Yadier Molina was placed on the IL due to a broken hand. Molina is still about a month away from returning the Cards lineup.

Ali Sanchez was recalled from Memphis to fill the roster vacancy.

Dylan Carlson to be optioned to Memphis

Harrison Bader will be activated from the 60 Day IL in the next day or two and the club has announced that they will send highly touted prospect Dylan Carlson to Memphis to make room for Bader.

Bader fractured his wrist on Opening Day and has been missed from the lineup since. Carlson has been in a season long slump hitting just .172 with one homerun and 7 RBI's, far from meeting expectations. Carlson has been moved around the lineup in a hope to spark his bat, but nothing has worked.

With Justin Williams playing well and Connor Capel becoming a dependent bat and defensive glove in the outfield, plus Matt Carpenter's resurgence (.301 avg, 7 HR 25 RBI), thus moving Tommy Edman to the outfield, Carlson is the likely candidate to be optioned. The Cards are hopeful that a stint down in Memphis will help Carlson get out of his funk and get back into the Cards everyday lineup.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Any thoughts on potential rotation upgrades as the season progresses? Really solid farm, and Manoah is looking like a potential gem in a year or two, but the rotation really falls off after Ryu and Ray (Unless Matz is as solid in-game for you as he has been so far IRL).

Nah haven’t looked yet but you can bet I’ll be going after a solid add at the deadline. Just beat the Yankees in game two 1-0 (complete opposite of game 1) and stripping went 5 innings allowing only 3 hits and 0 runs. So far so good!

Lost Chatwood for a couple of weeks but the bullpen has been good so far !
