Cardinals place Daniel Ponce de Leon on 60 Day IL

Once again, the Cardinals have placed another player on the IL.

This time is RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon. Ponce de Leon landed on the 60 day IL due to a shoulder injury. It's expected that he'll miss 6-8 weeks, if not more.

Ponce de Leon had been working out of the bullpen this year and was briefly sent to Memphis when returning from his first stay on the IL due to shoulder tightness. Ponce de Leon was 2-1 with a 3.25 ERA and was a reliable arm out of the bullpen.

The Cardinals will again scramble for options to fill the bullpen.

Blue Jays trade Bo Bichette to Indians for James Karinchak and Oscar Mercado

In what can be considered the first significant trade of July, the Blue Jays have traded IF Bo Bichette to the Indians for RHP James Karinchak and OF Oscar Mercado.

The Indians have already acquired Andrew Miller from the Cardinals as they look to compete for the AL Central and more likely an AL Wildcard spot.

Bichette will no doubt fulfill a vacancy at the shortstop position the Indians have had since they traded Francisco Lindor in the offseason to the Mets. Bichette is hitting .284 with 5 homeruns and 32 RBI's this year.

The Blue Jays will get much needed bullpen help in Karinchak and depth in the outfield with Mercado. The Blue Jays are within striking distance of both the AL East and AL wildcard, but they continue to lose ground with each passing week as they now trail the Yankees by 8 games in the East and are 5 1/2 out of the wildcard.

Still, an interesting trade to say the least, but one the Indians have to be pretty excited over.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

So I have MLB 21 now and after a feeling out process playing some DD and RTTS I am digging into a franchise.

This franchise will be played like no other. I will not play with the same team all season. Every calender day I will randomly select a team to play with using random number generator, 1-30.

I love this for many many different reasons. But mainly because I LOVE just playing with everyone. I get to hit and pitch with everyone. So far just played fourth game and I am so immersed and just want to keep playing, excited to see which team I play with next.
I have all bullpens set up for 30 teams. I will let the AI set all lineups, and I will manage MLB injuries for all 30 teams. DH ON, extra runner rule OFF.

Playing this way is really a great way for me to be testing my sliders and also playing on dynamic difficulty with sensitivity slider maxed at 10. At the end of April I'll have a good idea where I need to lock it in at.

So far in the four games, they've all been with different teams. I think what I'll do is post the game summary photo of the game I play. I really don't know how to update this honestly.

First game I was the Royals vs the Rangers. I lost 1-0 sadly. I managed only 4 hits. Rangers only had 5 but got the opening day win on the road.

Second game I was the Padres hosting game two of a series vs the Diamondbacks. You Darvish went 5 innings giving up 4 hits and no runs. I won this one 6-0 shutout. Bumgarner was good early, but I got to him in the 6th.

Third game I was the Twins on the road against the Brewers. A pitchers duel between Berrios and Burnes. Brewers hold on late to win 3-2.

Game four I was the Cubs at home looking to avoid the sweep vs the Pirates. Yeah uh I got absolutely destroyed. Pirates bats went off. Photo of box score below. Pirates won 19-5 in a HR fest at Wrigley with 13mph winds blowing out from the 6th inning on.

In the beat down by the Pirates vs the shabby Cubs pitching I accomplished a feat by hitting THREE homeruns with Ian Happ. He was batting 7th in the lineup too so quite a feat!

Next game I will be the Giants (1-2) opening up a three game series @ Padres (4-0). Aaron Sanchez vs Joe Musgrove.

Up 3-0 into the 9th and I blow it. Padres score 5 in the bottom of the 9th. Grisham was the hero with the three run walk off bomb to RF. Padres stay undefeated at 5-0!

Next game I will be the Red Sox (2-2) hosting game 2 of 3 vs Tampa Bay (0-4).

Michael Wacha gets the start for the Rays. Nick Pivetta to start for me with Boston.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

I was finally able to continue my Astros rebuild franchise (I’m the one who got rid of Altuve, Bregman, Correa, Brantley, Verlander, and Greinke for very little to start my complete rebuild).

I finished Spring Training to figure out who my 26 guys on the roster will be. This is what I came up with:

            C - Martin Maldonado
            1B - Yuli Gurriel
            2B - Robel Garcia
            3B - Aledmys Diaz
            SS - Alex De Goti
LF - Garrett Stubbs (vs. RHP) / Chas McCormick (vs. LHP)
            CF - Myles Straw
            RF - Kyle Tucker
            DH - Yordan Alvarez

            C - Yermin Mercedes
            1B - Alberto Ybarra
            1B/LF/RF - Taylor Jones
            3B/2B/1B - Abraham Toro

            1 - Lance McCullers Jr
            2 - Framber Valdez
            3 - Jose Urquidy
            4 - Christian Javier
            5 - Jake Odorizzi

            Josh James
            Ryne Stanek
            Austin Pruitt
            Garrett Crochet
            James Karinchak
            Pedro Baez
            Ryan Pressly

It’s going to be a rough season but I’m really looking forward to starting this rebuild.

Red Sox hit five homeruns in the win over the Rays who fall to 0-5.

Pivetta and Wacha each win 5 innings. Game was tied 4-4. A big three run homer in the 1st by Devers started us off. In the 4th inning the Rays got some key hits along with two walks and scored 4 runs to tie the game.

My next game will be with the surprising undefeated Miami Marlins. Swept the Rays to begin the season, and I will be looking to sweep the Cardinals at home to get them to 6-0. Cardinals struggling early with 1-4 record.

              Pablo Lòpez (1-0 2.45) vs Jack Flaherty (0-1 11.25)

              Injuries around the league:

Phillies CF Roman Quinn out 2-3 weeks
Nationals 2B Luis García out 1-2 months
Cubs C Tony Wolters out for the season
Padres C Luis Campusano out 1-2 months

Orioles RF Anthony Santander out 1-2 weeks
Red Sox LF J.D. Martinez out 2-3 months
Rays CF Kevin Kiermaier out 2-3 months
Mariners 2B Dylan Moore out 1-2 weeks

I'm very undecided now. With Cy's sim roster coming soon Idk if I want to restart my franchise or not. I probably will, and just using this as a good test for my sliders and dynamic difficulty. Honestly I may just leave it on dynamic difficulty and not lock into anything. I kinda like the change. I feel like I'm getting more of the ebbs and flows of baseball with it always on with max sensitivity. We'll see, but so far having fun with the game. 20210525_111949.jpeg

Cards bats rocky in Colorado drop series to Rockies

The Cardinals have once again dropped a series to a team below .500. This time it was a 4 game series with the Rockies in Coors Field. The Cardinals lost Thursday and Friday, each by one run, and then exploding for 15 runs on Saturday in a 15-0 thrashing of the Rockies. Unfortunately they couldn't split the series as the Cardinals only managed one run on Sunday in a 3-1 loss.

Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, and Paul DeJong were really the only offensive threats for the Cards in the series. After that, it was pretty bland.

The Cardinals now trail the Brewers by 7 games in the Central and the Braves by 3 games for the 2nd wildcard.

The Cardinals will travel to San Francisco for a 3 game series with the Giants before heading to Chicago for a 3 game weekend series with the Cubs before the All-Star break.

Cardinals option Dylan Carlson to Memphis

The Cardinals have optioned switch hitting outfielder Dylan Carlson to Memphis. Carlson is hitting just .222 on the year, which is actually a step up from where he's been, but he continues to be inconsistent and unproductive at the dish. Carlson has just 4 homeruns and just 19 RBI's this year, despite numerous chances to drive in runs.

For now the Cardinals will recall Austin Dean from Memphis to fill the roster void. This is just until the All-Star Break (1 week) when Tyler O'Neill is expected to be activated from the IL.

Marlins couldn't get the sweep, lose first of the season. Cardinals behind two homeruns by Bader blast past the Marlins 11-2. Four errors by Miami was crazy! Are they that bad defensively irl? Brian Anderson at 3B had three and Chisholm with a throwing error.

Flaherty with 6ip 8k 1bb on four hits. Gave up only the first inning luck homerun by Aguilar. Wind blowing to RF helped I thought.

                    Around the league:

Mets 3B JD Davis is on 60 day IL and out 2-3 months LF, utility man José Peraza is called up to replace JD.

Ok...long time listener, first time caller. My recaps wont be nearly as extensive as a lot of the rest of you, just a monthly wrap up really. As a side note, this is the first year that I have A-Just run with Ridin's "base" roster. Usually I make changes and edits to suit myself. And B-NOT done 30 team control. Just decided to run with my Mets and whatever else happens around the league happens. And budgets off(but I have ZERO interest in cheating the cpu).

Mets finish April 14-10, 0.5 games back in the NL East

The Mets closed out the first month of the season 4 games over .500. Ace Jacob deGrom and his 11 K's helped the Mets to a 5-2 win at Washington on opening day. deGrom would go on to notch double digit strikeouts in 3 more starts as well as launching a solo homer at Coors Field and earn himself the Mets pitcher of the month honor.

The Mets would play under .500 baseball for the first couple weeks of the season. A Pete Alonso solo shot in the bottom of the 8th on the 13th, leading to an 8-7 victory against the Phillies however would ignite the offense and spark a winning streak. The slugging first baseman would tack on 11 more round trippers in April including a grand slam in Colorado, a 2 homer day against the Nats and a walk off in the 11th versus Boston. Alonso and Conforto would also go back to back at Wrigley as Pete sealed up the Mets position player of the month award.

Other notable events included a 5-1 loss against Washington on Easter, an explosive 11-6 win taking on Miami in the home opener at Citi Field, and a 4-3 win on Jackie Robinson Day in NY taking on Philly.

Some great individual achievements were Carlos Carrasco striking out 11 Nationals in a losing effort in our Nations Capital, Pete Alonso with of all things a walk off sac fly against Philadelphia at home, and Jeff McNeil knocking 2 balls over the Ivy against the Cubs.

Notable transactions for the Metropolitans include signing right fielder Michael Conforto to a 3 year 42 million dollar extension in spring traning and claiming RP Jean Carlos Mejia off waivers from Cleveland and assigning him to AAA Syracuse. Trevor Hildenburger was released to make room. The Mets also welcomed back SP Luc Rennie to the organization signing him to a 1 year 80 thousand dollar deal and releasing RP Daniel Zamora(Arizona would claim Zamora off waivers)

The injury bug remarkably avoided the big league club the whole month, with just McNeil and J.D. Davis day to day on some minor injures(both only missed 1 game each). The AAA club however saw both Franklyn Kilome and top prospect Kahlil Lee hit the 60 day IL. Kilome will be back after his broken wrist heals, but Lee is lost for the season with a torn rotator cuff.

Around the rest of the Majors there were a few free agent signings. Baltimore scooped up CP Roberto Osuna on a 1 year 4 mil deal, and released LF TJ Nitching. And the Rockies went on a catcher spree signing Matt Weiters(1/2.2M), Caleb Joseph(1/870K), and Chase Vallot(1/50K) and releasing C Brian Severn, CF M.J. Melendez and SS Alan Trejo in the process. And the Nationals would ink a backstop of their own bringing in Tim Federowicz for 1 year at 120K and cutting ties with 1B Ian Sagdal.

There were a handful of early season trades around the league as well. The Yankees shipped catcher Anthony Siegler to Baltimore for 2B Pat Valakia. The A's sent veteran reliver Yusmiro Petit to Boston for CF Gilberto Jimenez. And KC traded SP Danny Duffy to the Phils for catcher Rafael Marchan.

And although the injuries stayed away from Queens, the rest of the bigs werent so lucky. Some notable players missing time are: Lorenzo Cain-MIL(hamstring 2mos), Gregory Polanco-PIT(knee 2mos), Ryan Mountcastle-BAL(shoulder 2mos), Gleyber Torres-NYY(arm 2mos), Lance Lynn-CHW(rotator cuff out for year), Triston McKenzie-CLE(forearm 2mos), Jorge Alfaro-MIA(hand 3mos), Jake Croenworth-SD(shin 2mos), Steven Duggar-SF(arm 2mos), Gio Urshella-NYY(hand 2mos), Chris Archer-TB(hand 2mos), Robbie Grossman-DET(acl out for year), and Justin Upton-LAA(hand 2mos)

And finally the MLB Players of the month were:
                      AL
                      Pitcher-Liam Hendriks-CHW(11sv,0.00era,20k)

Blue Jays move to 9-2 on the season after a win against the Yankees. After starting the season 6-0 with sweeps against New York and Texas, the Jays dropped two straight against the Angels before winning their next two to even the series.

The first game against New York for the second time saw the pick up the 3-0 victory off the heels of Ryu’s second straight shutout win. Ryu has been un-hittable in the early going. The Yankees are dealing with injuries to Sanchez and Lemheiu, but early on Toronto fans have to be happy.

The Jays signed Dee Strange-Gordon to a 1 year deal. Joe Panik was sent to AAA in a corresponding move. Panik, in limited at bats only has 1 hit in the season and Espinal has been commanding most of the backup IF work. Gordon provides them with some speed off the bench and the eligibility to play middle infield or outfield. The Jays are last in steals in the league so they are hoping Gordon can give them a boost there. He’s not been in any action after being released after spring training.

Next up, the Jays continue their series against New York with games against Cole and Severino.

Alright so I restarted my 30 team franchise with McNulty's 1000+ hour rosters which I think are really good. First and only time I will be restarting.

I did some thinking for my franchise, and I do love playing with random teams each calendar day. But I will be taking it month by month. For April I will play with a any team. By May I will drop off playing with the 3 or 4 worst teams record wise. By July I will probably only be playing with playoff contenders etc. Will take a long time to get through just one season but playing this way has me much more immersed inside my season I do find myself wanting to play more games than I would if I were going with just one team.

First game I was the Cubs and got the win behind two homeruns for Joc Pederson in his Cub debut. 20210526_002410.jpeg

I'm going to start just doing weekly updates around the league. Weeks will be Sun-Sat on the calendar. And just give brief details on the games I played for the week as kind of highlight games of the week or something.

So I played the opener and last two games for the week. Lots of injuries around already as well.

April 2- A's (me) vs Astros

Behind good starting pitching A's win it 4-2.

                            W- Manaea (1-0 3.37era) 5.1ip 6h 6k 2bb 2er

                            L- McCullers (0-1 9.00era) 4ip 5h 4k 2bb 4er

                            Rosenthall (S, 1)

Mitch Moreland went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored

                            HRs- M. Chapman (1), K. Tucker (1)

April 3- Red Sox (me) vs Orioles

Kremer had Red Sox fooled all day. Orioles win this one 3-1.

                            W- D. Kremer (1-0 1.12era) 8ip 3h 7k 2bb 1er

                            L- E. Rodriguez (0-1 5.79era) 4.2ip 5h 6k 3bb 3er

                            Valdez (S, 1)

Santander drove in his 100th career RBI with a 5th inning rbi double.

Kremer actually came in the 9th to go for the complete game at 106 pitches. He gave up a single to start the inning and was pulled, rightfully so I thought. Loved to see that AI bullpen management. That runner did come around to score after Valdez allowed two hits before eventually striking out the side to close the game.

                            Injuries around the league:

White Sox LF Eloy Jimènez out 1-2 months. LF Mikie Mahtook called up from AAA

Mets RP Seth Lugo out 2-3 months.
RP Jeurys Familia called up from AAA

Cardinals RF Dylan Carlson out for the SEASON with dislocated ankle. Ouch!
CF Lane Thomas called up from AAA

Diamondbacks SP Merrill Kelly out 1-2 months.
SP Jon Duplantier called up from AAA

Giants LF Alex Dickerson out 1-2 months.
CF Steven Duggar called up from AAA

Something I'm going to do as well not have injuries in the minors. I'll sim them separately with injury slider at zero. Honestly from years past I'm pretty sure injuries can and do still occur, just pretty rare. I also turn waivers on manual so I'm not worried about minor league options and stuff. Free to send up and down whoever whenever. Maybe if we ever get a full roster of A ball etc it will be easier to manage.

I won't update until another week has played out and I'll highlight the games played like this. Hopefully not so many injuries to list, geez lol.

With the month of May finished the Devils sit at 26-30 6.5 GB from the Astros and 5 GB in the Wild Card. Some surprising players have been off to hot starts while some are off to cold as well. Hope to improve even more and continue to sell of older pieces to improve the team.

At the beginning of the month the Devils acquired David Bote from the Cubs for David Robertson. Bote was on the bench and has a favorable contract for the Devils, instantly became the starting 3B for the team.

Towards the end of the month the Twins offered Jake Cave for Oliver Perez which the Devils jumped on needing another outfielder. Cave had been having a good season thus far and took over CF.

Hitting highlights for May: 1-4 in the order have been carrying the team. Darnell Sweeney is hitting at .282, Greg Garcia is at .301 and took over the starting job at 2B, Jedd Gyorko is hitting at .303, and Edwin is leading the league in HR at 16. Yasiel Puig has been a complete disappointment hitting .157 and moved to the bench also Hyun Soo kim was moved to the bench and Logan Morrison is the full time Left Fielder.

Pitching highlights from May: Cole Hamels has been solid still keeping his ERA under 4 while Rick Porcello rebounded as has an ERA at 3.60. Samardzija and King Felix have both struggled and might look to deal them or bring someone up. In the pen Ruby has ben a revelation pitching 9 innings so far in relief and dominated with a 2.00 ERA and 11 K's. Pedro Strop is still dominating but hasn't had too many save opportunities. Jeremy Jeffress is my best Reliever with a 2.17 ERA in 29 Innings Pitched. Ryan Dull has been roughed up but has been better lately.

Notes: The Devils recalled Ryan Dull, Ryon Healy, and Billy Burns. With the Cave trade the Devils optioned Burns back to the minors and brought up Ruby De La Rosa.

Other players optioned: Adam Brett Walker II, Tim Wendell, Jesmuel Valentin, and Domingo Santana

Hitting highlights from the month of April: Jedd Gyorko leads the team with a .325 Batting Average while Edwin Encarnacion has 7HR. Hyun Soo Kim and Darnell Sweeney are both hitting above .280. On the bench everyone is hitting Below .200

Pitching highlights from the month of April: Cole Hamels has been the ace with a 3.32 ERA. Rick Porcello has struggled with a 5.81 ERA. In the Pen both Pedro Strop and David Robertson have been dominating. Strop has 12 K’s in 6 innings pitched.

Hoping to go into May and improve on the record. The second half of the month is all division games so it will be key to finish strong.

                              Notes:
Tim Wendell was placed on the 10 day IL with a Head Contusion. Yeyson Yrizarri was called up to take his place.

Any Tigers guys (or anyone else) wanna give some thoughts on how to properly handle Michael Fulmer at this point?

Talking about starting a chise from scratch where he’s a SP with 87 stamina and B potential with a 92mph fastball, but there he is irl throwing 100mph out of the pen.

I don’t want real life to influence my decisions after my chise starts but before it starts I feel like this is a fairly large decision that needs to be made: ie what Fulmer actually is at this point.

Just not sure how to proceed with him from this point in time and would love to read any thoughts.
                                Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.
