Braves savages one win out the 3 game series vs. the Nationals

Game 1: We lost 4-0! SP Ynoa gave up 3R, 3ER in the bttm of the 4th & 5th. Pitching 5IP,BB(1),2K & 4H. Actually it wasn't a bad outing. No offense vs SP Lester. He went 8.1IP,5H,0ER,1BB & 6K...

Game 2: We were on a 4 game losing streak and it extended to a 5 game losing streak. SP Morton on the bump for us. He was actually hurling the ball pretty good coming into the game. with a ERA of 2.03 with 38K. I was looking for a shut down performance out of him, but he gave up 5R, 5ER, 4.2IP,5H,2BB & 5K. We lost 5-3. Offensively Ozuna provided a 2R HR, but not enough..

Game 3: We called on our top of the rotation starter, our "Ace" Mike Soroka. He was 3-1 coming into the contest, with an ERA 2.75....He was facing Scherzer. Soroka(W4-1) out dueled Max, 8.0IP,4H,0R, 0BB & 9K. Scherzer 6.0IP,5H,2R,2ER,1BB & 7K. SS Swanson who has been struggling all year long, batting under .200. Went 2 for 3, 2B and 2RBI. Losing streak yielded. We won 2-0!

We are back to Atlanta for a 6-game home stand, featuring a 3-game set with the Phils(17-16) and 3 vs the Blue Jays(16-15). We sit at 16-15, last in the NL East, 3.0GB of the division leading Marlins(19-12).

Any work around to move guys over in September? I have 30 team control on and trying to move Arrieta to the Padres but get "Playoff eligible players may not be released during the September call up period".

Will it let you remove him from the 40-man roster?

IRL, players not on the 40-man can be traded after the deadline. No idea if that's how it works in the game though.

Top of the 2nd Jesus Aguilar gets the scoring started with a solo shot. Single in the 4th by Alfaro extends the lead. Single by Acuna in the bottom of the 6th brings the score 2-1. Single by Austin Riley ties the game in the 7th 2-2. Aguilar comes through again in the 11th giving the Marlins a 4-2 lead. Floro comes in and shuts the door Marlins win 4-2.

Sierra doubles in the 7th extending the lead 7-1. Aguilar hits his 2nd three run shot giving the Marlins a 10-1 lead. Pache singles in a run in the 7th. Sandoval doubles bringing in another run. Three run shot by Pache in the 8th brings the game within 4 10-6 Marlins. Marlins hold on to win 10-6

Single by Freeman in the bottom of the 1st ties gives the Braves their first run. Single in the top of the 4th by Alfaro extends the lead. Game gets delayed in the bottom of the 5th pulled Rogers and put in Hernandez. Double in the 6th by Alfaro scores one extending the lead. Freeman hits a two run HR in the 6th pulling the Braves within two. Sac fly in the 7th extends the lead for the Marlins. Another run on a Sac fly from Aguilar extends the lead 7-3 in the 9th. Marlins win 7-4.

Getting a new chise going with the Mets using Ridin's TDL updated rosters. Simulated to current date and actually was .500 just like today. Lindor is out for the season and a lot of guys are struggling offensively so I like trying to overcome the 7 game deficit for the division at least in a virtual world.

I had one going from release week using the original 1st rosters, and was in 22, but lost interest and hadn't played it in months. Did too well as well in 21 lol.

The Cubs snapped a four-game skid and avoided a sweep Thursday night behind a dominant performance by Yu Darvish. David Bote and Ian Happ both smacked solo homers in a 4-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves in what could very likely wind up being a Divisional Series matchup in the postseason.

The Cubs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a clutch two-out single by catcher Ian Rice. Ronald Acuna Jr. belted a solo homer in the top of the seventh to account for the Braves' only run as Darvish tossed a complete game, allowing just the one run while striking out seven hitters.

"He was on right from the start," said Cubs skipper David Ross. "It's always good to get a couple runs early when you know your starter as on and we did that tonight."

The Cubs improve to 72-44 on the year and maintain a healthy nine game lead in the National League central division.

Cardinals acquire Joey Gallo from the Rangers

The Cardinals needed a left handed bat with power and they got it on the last day of the trade deadline.

The Cardinals have acquired 28 year old Joey Gallo from the Rangers in exchange for some hefty prospects.

Going back to the Rangers are:

3B/COF - Bryce Denton (23 years old Top 50 prospect, #38)
RHP - Seth Elledge (24 years old)
RHP - Junior Fernandez (23 years old Top 100 prospect)

There's no doubt the Cardinals unloaded a hefty price for the services of Gallo who is possibly just a rental as he is in the final year of his contract. But there is also no doubt that this Cardinals lineup needed a left handed power bat in the worst way. Gallo has only played in 49 games this year after being injured earlier in the season, but he does have 13 homers and 30 RBI's in that time. Yes Gallo doesn't hit for average (.240) and he strikes out a bit, but he also hits a homerun once every 12 at-bats.

Gallo will replace Dylan Carlson, who will move to the bench, in right field. Carlson just continues to be streaky and the Cards thought about sending him to Memphis to get consistent swings and find a groove, but his defensive glove and switch hitting will be an asset to the major league club.

Justin Williams was optioned to Memphis to create room for Gallo. Williams will get everyday at-bats at Memphis something that should be extremely beneficial to the 26 year old lefty. Justin Toerner was kept on the MLB roster over Williams primarily due to his speed and better overall defender.

Its exciting times in St.Louis right now as the fanbase is overjoyed with the idea that the front office didn't just "stick with the guys that got us here" and took a big swing when given the opportunity to step up to the plate.

Cardinals acquire Jake Odorizzi from Orioles

The Cardinals made a last minute trade before the deadline expired to acquire RHP starter Jake Odorizzi from the Orioles in exchange for 3 players.

Going to the Orioles are:

1B/COF - John Nogowski
SP - Steven Gingery (23 year old lefty)
RHP - Jesus Cruz (25 years old)

The 32 year old Odorizzi is 7-9 this year with the O's but his record is more a reflection of the O's team versus his ability as he has pitched 121.2 innings to the tune of a 2.74 ERA which was 5th best in the American League. And the best thing is Odorizzi has another year left on his contract ($7.8M) so the Cards will have him next season should they desire.

Odorizzi will step into the rotation and replace Carlos Martinez who was optioned to Memphis to make room. Martinez has struggled to stay healthy and effective in the big leagues as he is 4-9 with a 5+ ERA and 2+ WHIP. The Cards are hopeful a trip to Memphis will help Martinez find his stuff that made him a dominant pitcher in 2021 that led him to getting a big contract this past offseason.

Another solid deal for the Cards that really didn't cost them that much (Gingery the prize of the return), but Odorizzi will be another piece in the rotation that will hopefully keep the Cardinals in ballgames. And with the addition of Gallo, its hopeful that the offense will start exploding more often than not and the Cards won't need the arms to be as impactful as they've asked at times this season.

What a deadline for the Cardinals and there were some big trades amongst other clubs as well, which I'll try to post later.

So excited for this second half run.

Cardinals take series from Giants

The Cardinals (61-40) took 2 out of 3 games against the Giants over the weekend to now move to within a game of the Brewers in the Central and lead the Braves by 2 1/2 games for the 2nd wildcard spot. They trail the Mets by 1/2 game for top wild card spot.

The Cardinals won Friday and Saturday night, but we're unable to complete the sweep Sunday afternoon as they lost in 10 innings, 4-3.

The Cardinals will remain home as the Cubs come to St.Louis for a 4 game series starting tomorrow night. The Cubs have been streaky all year and at one point seemed to be in the playoff hunt, but struggles after the All-Star break have put the Cubs 10+ back in the wildcard and division.

The Cardinals will unveil their new lineup Monday night after the acquisition of Joey Gallo and Jake Odorizzi is scheduled to get the ball for Thursday afternoon's series finale.

Padres use early HR to down Birds

The Padres clubbed three first inning HR off Johan Oviedo and that was all the offense they would need to take game 2 of the series. CF Trent Grisham led off the inning with a solo blast followed up by Tatis Jr. and Wil Myers later that inning. Johan Oviedo settled in after that to complete 6 innings allowing only the three first inning runs.

On the other side, SD's Mike Clevinger was spectacular. He tossed 7IP with 8 K's and 1 ER to earn his 4th win of the season.

- OF Tyler O'Neill has raised his BA 40 points in the last 4 games
-Saturday's loss snapped a 5 game winning streak for the Cardinals

Cardinals split 4 game series with Cubs

The Cardinals (63-42) split a 4 game series with the Cubs over the weekend and are a 1/2 game back of the Brewers now and 3 up on the Braves for the 2nd wildcard spot.

The Cardinals played average baseball this series which led to the split. They were shut out in the series opener, won Friday night on a walkoff single by Dylan Carlson in the 10th, blew a save on Saturday night, and then beat the Cubs 8-3 on Sunday.

New acquired Joey Gallo had a "debut" to forget as he played 3 games of the series going 0 for 13 with 11 strikeouts. Not the best way to represent yourself to the new club. In fact, he was out Sunday afternoon and Dylan Carlson drove in 2 runs going 2 for 3 with a walk.

Jake Odorizzi left his start Sunday with a hip flexor strain and will likely land on the 15 day IL.

Cardinals will now travel to Philadelphia for a 3 game weekend series with the NL East leading Phillies
