Losing Tommy Edman has been tough as we try to determine how best to fulfill the everyday 2nd base job. I keep bouncing various ideas around and just cant' land on one. Edmundo Sosa is currently handling the duties but his lack of offensive production is hurting the lineup because of how its structured, he's hitting the 2 hole. Only other option is to move up Dylan Carlson, but he is playing great hitting in the 7th spot as he gives up pop down in the lineup that can drive in runs when the likes of Arenado, DeJong, or O'Neill get on base.

We really don't have anyone in the minors who's shown they are ready to step into this role, especially with it being a lengthy IL stay for Edman.

We claimed 1B/COF Seth Brown off waivers from the A's to help with the decimated outfield position. We lost Tyler O'Neill for 10 days due to ankle sprain but he's due back in the next day or so. We will then have a decision to make on how to structure our outfield at the MLB level as Brown, Plummer, and Sierra cannot all be kept as bench players, and all 3 are out of options.

    Decisions...decisions...

those tough roster decisions are my favorite part of franchise mode.

I've only actually used the current uniforms (white, cream, red, gray and blue). I keep meaning to have a throwback weekend with the Hank Aaron uniforms. Probably should do that with some of the others too.

After about 100 ABs, Eric Sogard has an OPS of around 1.200. He's had the hot streak icon for a while, but...1.200? I had to reward him with manual increases to contact, power, and clutch, by about 5 to 10 points each. Fair? I think so. He's now in the 70s for contact and 60s for power, which is the least you could do for a guy hitting this crazy after 100 ABs.

Nothing wrong with that. I've had guys hit .300+ with literally 50-55 contact (ironically, had 90+ contact hit in the .270 range). You have to reward that no doubt. Conversely, I have also penalized those that stunk. Just keeps things interesting.

Cardinals place Tyler O'Neill back on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed LF Tyler O'Neill on the 10 Day IL with a flexor strain. O'Neill left Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

O'Neill just returned from the IL 3 days prior after being sidelined with a knee sprain.

Adolis Garcia was recalled from Memphis to take the vacated roster spot.

Cardinals take 3 of 4 from struggling Diamondbacks

The Cardinals (26-14) took 3 games of a 4 game series with the Diamondbacks in St.Louis. The Dimaondbacks came into the series having lost 3 in a row, and 8 of their last 10. That losing streak increased to 6 as the Cardinals took the first 3 games of the series before losing in Sunday's finale.

The Cardinals are still sitting atop the NL Central with a 2 game lead over the Reds.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they hit the road for a 6 game road trip that includes a quick 2 game series in Chicago against the Cubs followed by a 4 game series in Miami against the surprising Marlins.

                  In today's That's Baseball ...

I'm five outs away from being no-hit by the Reds bullpen (Lorenzen started, but only went 4.1 innings). Down 3-0 with runners on first and second (Joc and Riley walked), up steps John Ryan Murphy and his .071 batting average. I thought about pinch-hitting for him but wanted to give d'Arnaud a full day off, so I left him in. And, of course, he lines a single up the middle to break up the no-no and the shutout at the same time. And that single sparks a four-run rally in the eighth and a 4-3 win.

I'm not sure I'd have ever posted again in this thread if the Reds bullpen had actually no-hit me.

We're 19-6 so far, three games ahead of the Mets with the Nats and Phillies right behind them.

Schedule has been pretty soft for us. We've played the Marlins, Pirates and Reds who are all at or near the bottom of the standings. We're already done with the Padres for the year. I think we went 4-3 against them with some epic games. So the slider adjustments have made things more challenging, even if the record doesn't show it.

For whatever reason, I can't hit at all with Joc now. He's still below .150 for the season with just one homer. He has to be close to leading the league in strikeouts. But he leads the NL in walks. Go figure. He rarely gets anything good to hit.

Cardinals acquire Kolten Wong from Red Sox

The Cardinals and Red Sox have struck a late May deal that will send Kolten Wong back to St.Louis.

                        Cardinals Get:

                        2B Kolten Wong

                        Red Sox Get:

                        1B/OF Spencer Torkelson
                        OF Magnerius Sierra
                        RHP Robert Broom

Robert Broom is a highly touted prospect with great closer capabilities. The 24 year old was in Springfield for the Cards where he recorded 13 strikeouts in just 5 1/3 innings of work.

Magnerius Sierra is a good defensive outfielder with a decent bat. He almost earned the everyday centerfield job, and did out of spring training, but only due to Jasson Dominguez dealing with injuries. Sierra gives the Red Sox depth in the outfield something that they sorely need right now.

Spencer Torkelson is likely to be kept at the major league level in Boston. He can hit and he can add versatility to the club by playing 1B and manning either corner outfield position. The Cards picked him up in the offseason with the idea of adding depth to first base and a backup should Luken Baker continue to struggle. But Baker is playing well so Torkelson became expendable.

In Kolten Wong the Cards are returning a fan favorite and just an overall great player. Wong signed with the Red Sox this offseason, but was limited to reserve role behind Nick Solak. He'll obviously man the everyday 2nd base job until Edman returns and then Mike Schildt will have a decision to make, but that is nearly 2 months from now.

For now, the Cards hope that Wong can be who he was the last time he wore the Cards uniform and provide the tremendous glovework along with fulfill the 2 spot in the lineup.

2021 MLB Trade Deadline Week Update:

It's been a busy week already as far as trades go, as teams decide if they're buyers or sellers. A handful of teams have already begun selling off pieces as early as two months ago, but others have still been deciding which way to go, such as the Mariners.

The Mariners were holding their own in the Wild Card race as of a couple weeks ago, but have fallen on hard times of late and currently sit seven games back of the second spot. They've already acquired Ketel Marte and Zac Gallen in a blockbuster trade with the Diamondbacks, but given their current situation, should they consider trading off short term pieces?

The Pirates already sold their big piece in Bryan Reynolds, shipping him to the Dodgers for a prospect package headlined by starter Dustin May. Other than Reynolds, not much else is all that appealing that the Pirates would consider moving.

The award for the biggest seller is certainly goes to the Indians. The Indians sold off two key players in Shane Bieber and Jose Ramirez to the Reds and Blue Jays respectively. They did get back some nice pieces, including Hunter Greene, Austin Hendrick, and Jordan Groshans. Should they play their cards right, the Indians look to have a bright future.

Here are the moves made so far this trading season:
