    Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB

if the Mariners died in the forest, would there be a sound?

Arguably the worst team in sports history. Forget MLB history.

4 Hall of Famers on the roster at one point.. 3 of them in their absolute prime.. perhaps the best lefty of all-time.. when healthy, arguably the best player in MLB history... an absolute hitting MACHINE.. Won N-O-T-H-I-N-G

Look at some of the trades of that era.. Tino and Jeff Nelson for Russ Davis and Sterling Hitchcock... Mike Hampton and Mike Felder for Eric Anthony.. Shawn Estes for Salomon Torres.. Jason Varitek AND Derek Lowe for HEATHCLIFF SLOCUMB... and I get that every team has trades like this.. but pitching was the Ms problem in the 90s.. and they traded what, 4 All-Stars there?

Inexplicably they broke the MLB win record after losing Junior and A-Rod. But since then, they have warped back to their Expansion days.

They seem set up now. Dipoto has done a nice job.

Its impossible to have faith in the new ownership group with guys like Kevin Mather having the mother of all breakdowns.

The Ms were rumored to be moving to Tampa in the early 90s. It would have been soul rending to miss Juniors peak years.. but in many ways, I wish they had left. Seattle probably would have fought harder to keep the Sonics, CLEARLY a better product. KD for Junior? Probably a fair trade considering Griffey ended up forcing his way out of town... beacuse of pathetic ownership.

Wonderful information citing the incompetence we from a team who had arguably one of the most talented rosters over a 10 yea stretch - They are DEFINITELY a team I am considering given that I watched the almost 4 hour documentary of the Mariners - and it was PHENOMENAL!!!! Being able to bring them to the postseason would also be a tremendous accomplishment AND they have REALLY good podcasts to follow the team!

yep, because before Jeter got there they were winning titles left and right under Loria

I hated the Marlins uniforms before this last change, so the current uni's are slightly better but they should have rebranded back to the look of the Florida Marlins but keep the Miami name. so far the best thing the new Marlin ownership has done was remove Lorias Marjorie the trashheap (think: Fraggle Rock) from the outfield stands

Yeah - I don’t understand the hate towards Jeter - he’s done a great job to me - he removed the AWFUL looking EYESORE home run sculpture & is working to get the stadium to resemble a ballpark and not a laughing stock of an organization - He kept Mattingly & is doing a great job with the amount of talent that he has to work with - that pitching staff is going to be the heart of the team - BUT - the biggest plus in Jeter’s favor is dealing Stanton & the AWFUL contract to my Yankees! Grrrr….Jeter!!!! 😂😂😂😂

            Re: WORST OWNER IN MLB

I've had it in my signature since Mookie got traded, but John Henry is the worst owner to be a fan of the team he owns and he should be forced to sell the team. I know everybody will say that the Sox have won 4 World Series since he purchased the team and yet if you polled Boston sports fans he'd probably be 3rd or 4th in terms of owner likability, depending on that person's view of the Jacobs family. Henry's worth $2.9 billion and he wasn't willing to slide a blank check across the table for a truly generational talent in Mookie Betts. Then, to further the issue of being worth $2.9 billion but running a team like you're worth $29 he forces the issue of Andrew Benintendi's salary rising and makes it known he wants to get under the luxury tax (cue the permanent eye roll) and we Sox fans end up getting Franchy Fu**king Cordero as our "big piece" back for Benintendi. Plus, since he owns the only newspaper in town nothing negative ever gets written about him and he gets to go on living in his little bubble. I know people will hate a fan of a team with 4 championships in 17 years complaining about ownership but when someone sucks, they suck

Just waiting for the Pirates to sell super low on Mitch Keller, so that he can go out and dominate somewhere else...

I'm curious as to how gun shy the Pirates got after making that move. They traded two prospect-y-ish guys that had both dropped significantly in the rankings for an attempt at a win-now guy in Archer, who's peripherals were always better than his actual numbers.

I think they hired the right guy to right the ship in Ben Cherington though.

Yeah - the apple doesn’t usually fall to far from the tree - in family transitions - the kids are usually trying to honor their parents life & business but maybe a fresh set of ideas is what this franchise needs & still keep it in the family…maybe

Ironic that I posted this about 15 minutes before seeing that Glasnow is about to hit the IL yet again though...I feel like that was part of the danger around him. Big time potential, but can't seem to stay healthy.

Guys - in addition to the options I may choose from & some selections that have already been voiced - I’m going to add these to potential sellers due to their tenure as ownership (as possible selling due to age & longevity) - PLEASE let me know your thoughts on who you think would be most likely to sell (retire) first:

                            1. Jerry Reinsdorf (Chicago White Sox - owner since 1981)
                            2. Dave Montgomery (Philadelphia Phillies - owner since 1981)
                            3. Charles & Richard Monfort (Colorado Rockies - owner since 1992)
                            4. Sue Burns & Peter McGowan (San Francisco Giants - owner since 1992)
                            5. Peter Angelos (Baltimore Orioles - owner since 1993)
                            6. William DeWitt (St. Louis Cardinals - owner since 1995)
                            7. Robert Nutting (Pittsburgh Pirates - owner since 1996)
                            8. Larry Dolan (Cleveland Indians - owner since 2000)

I know that #5 & #7 have already been mentioned - I just added them for chronological purposes

Once again - AWESOME feedback guys!

Guys…what are your thoughts on Houston Astro’s owner - Jim Crane? I have an idea I’m mulling over in my head (Now - as a Yankee fan - it might be kind of hard to stomach doing this rebuild) BUT I’d like to know your thoughts on him? Also - what do you think could be an interesting storyline and realistic punishment in The Show? I was thinking that what if more reports and findings came out during that 2017-19 window and Manfred forced Jim Crane to sell the team? Highly unlikely but one can dream…Anyway - I would like to know your thoughts:

                                Maybe removal of draft picks?
                                Suspensions?
                                Removal of sponsorships?
