I guess I'll jump in and give my two cents on the PS4 vs PS5 difference from a few posts ago.

I have a PS5 and my roommate has a PS4. I had to do some missions for him in DD because he's not good enough. When I tell you I could barely play on the PS4 due to the nasty graphics and horrible frame rate, I'm not lying. Haha The difference to PS5 in terms of frame rate and crisp graphics was worth the upgrade for me, HOWEVER, if those things don't bother you, I'd stick with PS4 especially if you're into SOTS.

Imo, PS5 was a waste. I barely use the darn thing. Last time months ago. Just sticking with PC gaming.

Here's the thing, if you played the PS4 version of the game on PS5 you can already get 4K at a locked 60 fps. The native PS5 version offers almost nothing beyond that in terms of visuals. As far as I can tell, if you own a PS5 and don't care about Stadium Creator, there is no reason to buy the PS5 version of the game over the PS4 version, especially since it's $10 cheaper.

If you aren't into other games, then yea, you should have just stuck with a PS4 unless you really wanted to create a day game only create-a-stadium. I am mainly on my PC because of Destiny 2 but am going to be playing Horizon: Forbidden West next Fri. I still play '20 on my PS5 and will be doing so for the foreseeable future.

I have been really debating on if I want to go next gen or not. All of the games that have been coming out have also been coming out for the previous gen as well, so thankfully I haven't needed to upgrade.

However, when games like the new Spider-Man and Wolverine come out, there is a possibility I will upgrade but I just don't know if I game enough in general for it to be worth it honestly.

Like I said in the other thread, a new lighting engine and an audio overhaul would go a long way. And those are exactly the kind of things they could slip into the current gen versions (yes PS5 is current gen, sorry to those still waiting to jump in) without making a big deal about it beforehand. Exactly what Madden did for example, no one even mentions those differences.

I don’t actually care about any of this.

It’s concerning that they are listing the 4K as “dynamic” and the 60 fps as “targeted”. The least they could have done is have native 4k and locked 60 fps

I don't find the visual improvements lackluster when I look at how the game has visually progressed over time. I also consider that the big tech advancements people really want aren't necessarily an overnight process, and SDS themselves did emphasize that the big overhaul in visuals was actually a full blown three year project for the studio in the MLB The Show 17 stream.

For context, by the time MLB 17 dropped, there were 40M PS4 consoles out on the market, and SDS as a studio have consistently been focusing on just developing for one system between MLB 17 and 20.

Right now there are only 27M next gen consoles combined (PS5/XBOX Series) that have been sold, so we're likely getting performance bumps and feature optimizations for a while before the next big overhaul as long as they're still releasing these games on PS4/XBONE/NSX.

I would expect something big for The Show 24 when it comes to graphics if we're using the visual evolution from 14 to 17 as a reference. We haven't seen the developer streams yet leading up to this year's launch, so this is all me strictly speculating on past development and I may be wrong.

Oh men the good old days where we would get extended videos/streams just about the visual upgrades, I always loved those videos.

I'll never forget MLB 2014 as the year nearly every freaking player had beards just to showcase the only major graphical upgrade in the game. Some ballparks also had weird lighting issues like PNC's dark outfield looking like the black abyss.

I want this game to upgrade graphically just like the next guy but this new console generation is mostly about steady 4k and 60fps which you won’t appreciate as much if you haven’t experienced it yourself for a while and then suddenly switch back to a ps4, even the pro.

When I went back to a friend to play the show on his ps4 pro it was almost unplayable for me but my friend thought is was fine because he didn’t know better.

The last generation pushed the game(s) already beyond it’s capability to run it smooth and we almost forgot how important smooth 60fps gameplay is.

Reading some of the comments, people are really trying hard to make excuses on the visuals. Pretty much this studio is getting lazy like EA did with Madden. Now that they offer the game to Xbox, they’re in no rush to investment in a new engine or graphical overhaul. I bought last years version and it was a mistake, this game hasn’t been significantly improved in years. Stop making excuses or else they won’t touch it.

Well said. A lot of the excuses come off as a blind defense as well. “All sports games look the same every year” No they do not. Madden’s first year on next gen had underwhelming graphics and presentation. This year the it was done very well. They even have hair physics like a lot of people here have been lobbying for. And 2K looked phenomenal since day 1 on next gen. SDS is backed by Playstation and was a top 10 selling game last year. Not to mention money from micro transactions (Yea yea “No money spent”. We know tons of people still buy stubs and packs).
