I umpired their games from when they were 8 all the way until pony league. When they were 12 they made it to the Regional World Series in Indianapolis that year and lost in the championship game to advance to Williamsport. It was special getting to watch them on tv.

They played in the Cooperstown, NY tournament that year as well and the sponsored me as their umpire. That was a lot of fun.

Armor, did your boy get to play there?
Indeed he did. I was a head coach from tee ball, travel ball and middle school ball, up thru 16U High School Showcase travel in summer and fall 2020 and finally retired from coaching spring of 2021.

Cooperstown was amazing. So glad my son was able to experience that. He had a phenomenal tourney too. Did not hit one out....but hit the top of the wall 3 times...hit .800 for the tourney. Was insane. He was never a power hitter. The complex is magical. You know....you were there.

So cool you got to umpire there.

I told all my boys enjoy this experience. Because I knew all too well after 12 years old the game get’s more intense, kids fall off as some cannot transition successfully to the 60/90 field. You make so many great relationships in youth baseball....I had the privilege of being able to coach a core group of 8 kids from 5U tee ball thru 16U and all of them making their high school teams as Freshman. That was my goal for all of them. To keep them playing and loving this game (and keeping them away from the soccer field.....just kidding....well not really lol).

Great times and memories for a lifetime.

PS ONe madden were good days too and I played Tipple play to death on the Sega Mega drive in the mid 90s. you can transfer and edit players to whatever back then too so much fun. and you could bring around your friends and play against each other on a small CRT TV..

when things started to change was madden 13 that brought in CFM mode and MUT modes and killed off franchise. .this was the beginning of the end. bringing in modes that are designed for online to play against strangers and Fortnite type settings in grinding collecting of cards. and sporting games have bee in decline since then (not making money decline though) and I am not sure we will ever see the quality we once seen in sports games ever again.

in saying all that and we are all massively off topic here. MLB the show is the trueest it can be to simulation when it comes to gameplay and that is what keeps me playing it and buying it, I am frustrating with franchise taking steps back and features being taken out but I am always going to enjoy the great simulation gameplay.. all other sports games seem to 'arcade like' so I hope the show never turns into that style where you have a 3 in 4 chance of hitting a homer and every game is 12-10.

But the show is really getting stale with some aspects like Commentary. some animations that have been in for 10 years that they really need to overhaul to make it look more 'fresh'
There is a lot of truth in saying that the gameplay makes up for a lot of faults. I constantly compare MLB the Show's franchise to NHL's franchise, which I think is better, but it doesn't really matter when the gameplay on the ice is an arcade-riddled mess, no matter how you set the game and work the sliders. I stopped buying and playing because of it. Only so many times you can get told that goalies are fixed or defense is more important only for little-to-nothing to change.

I'd argue that 21 was a step in the wrong direction though in that regard as well, especially with the removal of the discipline attribute when calculating a user made check swing. That pure arcade style of change, made purely for the sake of online play yet still applied to offline only players. Even the gameplay changes that ARE good for franchise weren't made with franchise in mind these days. You listen to them talk, and it's clear that only care about the online experience. Franchise has become less than an afterthought, and it's concerning, even from a pure gameplay perspective.

Exactly where I am at. Hence why I am still playing 20. It was the pinnacle for me and unless something changes on 22 will continue to be.

The hitting engine using directional (I only hit with directional/timed) as a whole left a lot to be desired on last years game. Again my opinion. Even the sound....went backwards with hitting. That perfect sweet spot on 20 still feels and sounds like perfection. The best ever for a console baseball game and it has never gotten old.

I will admit I was ranting and going on about that change in 21 for months. but I eventually got used to it. it takes a lot of time to sort out the check swing problems. but I was able to adjust and eventually accept it. I didn't like that it was up to User rather then attributes. where I think it SHOULD be a bit of both for balance.

Logged in today to play mlbts21 and the 22 preorder promo was there. Seemed to be all about DD and the freed packs you get if you preorder.

Unless I see blockbuster improvements in gameplay I'll stay with 21. This could be the first year I haven't purchased the game. No y2y saves is a gamebreaker for me.

It's clear that it really depends on what kind of player you are.
Me, I'm a 52 year old dinosaur that like to play a franchise with classic rosters.
Well, to be true I always played season mode with classic rosters, but we all know they took that mode out without informing us.

I still love playing '20. It looks fantastic on my ps5. It has all the classic rosters that I want, but lacks the classic stadiums.
'21 is the other way round : it has a lot of created classic stadiums, but not the classic rosters to play with.

I bought '21 in a sale last year. Played a few games.
It is really not a bad game at all, but for me it was not worth the upgrade even though I bought it on sale.

'22 seems to be going the same way - for me. No y2y saves, no classic rosters, no sounds of the show.
They do give us night games in the created stadiums, but let's be honest : this should have been there already in '21.

As a company I understand they cater to the crowd that makes them the money.
This is not only in the video game industry, but in general life.
Damn, I'm starting to sound like a grumpy old man.

Anyway, have fun with '22 everyone. I'm sure it will be a great game.
I'm just very disappointed it's not my game anymore.

Wow...every point you made it's exactly my case (season mode, classic rosters, even age[emoji1410][emoji3061])...I understand video games have always been intended for a younger audience, but I'm curious how big is now the market segment of us who began playing sports games in a PS1 or PS2, in the years of "if it's in the game, it's in the game" when priority for sales was simulation...most of the comments in this thread relate to features lost that were part of that sim aspect that doesn't carry over well to the economic model the companies are now following...my question is, if this segment of us 'old guys that still play video games[emoji1787]' it's now big enough to make this kind of content profitable to the companies, even at extra charge, for maybe "offline" DLC's, that include open customization for logos, uniforms, players, music, sounds ,y2y franchises and rosters...many aspects of entertaining are now age segmented by marketing, including TV, radio, music, movies...Can we get already an age segmentation for sports video games? or are still very few of us to make that content profitable?...or maybe playing video games at 40-50+ it's not that normal[emoji1787]
