SOTS is the main reason I'll be devoting the majority of my time to the PS4 version of this year's game.

I know it's not the most common opinion here on OS, but of all the things lost in the move to multi-platform/next-gen, SOTS is what I miss the most (followed by roster importing, then Y2Y Franchise saves). It pains me more than it should that (as of right now) no version of the Show exists with both Stadium Creator and SOTS.

Hopefully some members of the development team care enough about the feature to lobby Microsoft to change their stance on ripping mp3's to the hard drive. I doubt MS would listen to people like us complain, but hopefully they'd be receptive to a developer bringing it up. I'm no tech expert, but as long as there was desire to do it, I don't think enabling mp3 ripping via a firmware update would be a tall order.

If nothing else, maybe SOTS could at least reappear on the PS5 version of the game at some point. I know the "feature parity" talking point gets thrown around a lot, but since a lot of versions of the game are already somewhat different from one another (SOTS being allowed on PS4 but no other platforms, Stadium Creator being next gen exclusive, etc.), perhaps that could be considered a moot point?

I only have a ps4 but even if i did have a PS5, SOTS is such a big feature to me, I’d do the same thing as you.

I agree that somehow they gotta get this feature next gen though I think there’s a new, improved way of doing it that would work for all parties.

Instead of mp3 music ripping, they should tie into Spotify and other streaming services. The SOTS menu would be the same or similar, but when loading music, you log into your Spotify account and tie the music from there.

SOTS makers would then make playlist on Spotify, similar to what we have here and importers would just find the playlist, plug play and save.

This option would be good for a few reason:

      1) it wouldn’t require Microsoft to change their stance.
      2) I’m sure it would lead to more people using SOTS because the process is simpler
      3) I’m sure Spotify wouldn’t mind as it would most likely lead to subscribers for their service.

Either way, I agree and hope that the developers have seen on these forums and elsewhere how desired that feature is from the community.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve been working on a big graphical overhaul behind the scenes with a 3 year plan. Last year was mainly developing for the xbox and create a stadium (although I believe that was only one guy), this year making it work on the Switch and audio soooooo we might see the graphical department shine next year, we’ll see.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Commentary and Presentation Deep Dive

Folks, this is coming along nicely.

It's not just the commentators, though that'll be a nice breath of fresh air. As it appears, many of my commentary prayers have been getting answered throughout the years, and I love it! (I'm not saying they're listening to me, but I'll pretend like they are in saying "Don't think they don't read these forums.")

          First of all, the stitching.

In other words, the game will always talk about the 2012 World Series matchup between the Tigers and Giants, but if you play your Brewers franchise and take them to the World Series against the Angels in 2013, you won't ever hear them bring that up if they play each other.

To save space, they're going to have to find a way to eliminate "specific" commentary, and fill it in with something generic and play Madlibs with the rest.

Here is an example... let's say that the game wants to access the team's performance in the past series. It calculates the numbers, recognizes it was a three-game sweep, and cues a "positive" script and fills in the variables:

Matt: "Well last series ____________ (commentator's name), the ____________ (team name) took care of the ____________ (other team name) in a ___ (number) game sweep at ________________ (stadium name). ____________ (starting pitcher name), ____________ (starting pitcher name), and ____________ (starting pitcher name) looked phenomenal and did what needed to be done."

          ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Then the game gives Steve a bit of commentary, figuring out if there was an offensive standout, talks more about the pitchers, or finds something defensive-related.

Steve: "Yeah, but let's not ignore the offensive contributions by ____________ (batter name), who hit _____ (batting average) in the ___ (number) games and drove in ____ (number) runs.

          ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Then the game sees his offensive performance today and decides whether or not he is on par with everything.

Eric: "He is ___ (number of hits) for ___ (number of at-bats) so far today, so let's hope he can get back to form."

          ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not saying this is easy coding whatsoever, but what is good about this "zero-stitch commentary" is that it allows you to insert banks of lines and keep the conversation going throughout franchise, and it's not just recalling information that happened in 2012. Yeah, they have it a bit when they say that my player's "hitting woes continue by batting in the .230's early on," but what if I just acquired a new player? What if my home run went into the upper deck? What if my team just suffered a bad injury? What if the trade deadline is coming up? There are things that can help improve this commentary... but unfortunately it means completely starting over from scratch, something which I don't really think the team (or Matty V.) would be invested in doing.
I also mention getting a new PA announcer in that post, something else that had been addressed a few years back.

Speaking of which, above I do mention having them comment on if I "hit it in the upper deck," and they did add that one year. I was always hoping they would add more of that, but that really seemed to wane after that. It was one of my favorite new additions to the commentary that year. Let's hope more of that has been added with the new duo.

I had mentioned the "madlibs" route several times in posts following that (such as this one), but below is another one where I not only add that note again more succinctly... but on top of that I have always been a fan of the idea of using recordings from actual games.

          1) Pull a **** load of actual audio that they have actually done from real broadcasts, and ask them to reenact them. Word for word, emotion for emotion.

          2) Work more "madlibs" commentary into their game for fresher sound. Not just for the player name, number of outs, and score, but also for other adjectives, verbs, etc.

          3) Coming off KnightTemplar's good point, reduce the amount of words in each line. Not everything needs to be overly elaborate. I know that's funny coming from me and my posts that I make, but it is okay for Matty V. to have a called strike go by where he simply says "Oh and one," rather than saying: "And he watches as that fastball just barely nicks the outside corner of the plate for the first pitch of the at-bat for a count of no balls and one strike."
The problem(s) involved the fact that I didn't know they had isolated data to work with or if it would work right for their algorithms, plus the fact that Mark DeRosa and Dan Plesac probably had a lot less to work with than others. However, this commentary duo would have a lot more, and it seems they also took a page out of the EA NHL playbook and had them do commentary from watching The Show gameplay as well. Good to see.

They've also done a lot better in dropping the word "And" to begin sentences. I started noting this back with Campbell and Hudler doing it all the time, plus Matty V. here and there. They started dropping it much more, which sounded so much better immediately. I know announcers do it here and there, but not 80% of lines.

They also did something else new that I haven't seen before and have been waiting on: added commentary between the end of a play and the start of a replay to fill dead air. You can see it in the Devers home run immediately, especially with Singleton jumping in. There are also clear indicators that they can initiate the color commentator's lines segueing into a replay before the graphic pops up. In other words, we as an audience are not just sitting there waiting for the next known cue, but rather they'll talk when they want to talk which is really refreshing.

Like I said, this is shaping up nicely. Shorter lines, stitching different words into similar-esque chatter and building off of it... even if some will sound disjointed right now, this is the building block for fresher, more dynamic commentary. They can only grow off of this, and now I'm getting really excited.

No. It was not detailed. I assume since the framework was already there for it.

I know you can play the PS4 version of 21 on the PS5 and get the SOTS. You can also play 20 on the PS5 and use them as well. I don't use them personally so I don't know if the process is the same or not.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Commentary and Presentation Deep Dive

You wonder if franchise is in the middle of a multi-year rebuild. Like it took them 2-3 years to do Create a stadium and presentation. I’m not saying we will probably get it this year but we could be a year or two away. I believe they said last year that they are laying the framework for franchise. And then this year they increased their franchise staff by 300%.

Everything is looking good so far in these premiers. They have surpassed anyone’s expectations, albeit a low expectation level coming in. I know I wasn’t expecting a complete overhaul of the announcers. I was hoping they would be replacing one or two of them.

So maybe we will have some surprises in franchise this year.

OK I'm finally SUPER excited for the future of Commentary and Presentation in MLB The Show!!!!!!!!

I have re watched the Commentary and Presentation Deep Dive a lot and I am really blown away how much the Commentary and Audio has improved! To my ears not only do I think the new Commentary sounds as good as MLB2K but in my opinion I think it may just be even better Really Shocked!!!

Anyway I know it's year one for the new Commentary so I am trying not to be too picky lol. But on that hit off the green monster at Fenway Park why did "Jon Sciambi" say "And it hits the fence"? Is the Green Monster really a fence?

I think he should have said "And it hits the Green Monster" instead!!!

And another thing on that same hit when the runner scores "Jon Sciambi" says "He's safe"

I think "Jon Sciambi" should have said and "Wander Franco" comes into score!

I guess what I am saying here is in the future I really hope San Diego Studios will allow "Jon Sciambi" and Chris Singleton to say the players name much more often during the action.

                          You guys agree?

Also as far as the Presentation it's looking really great for 22.

One thing that I like a lot is that new in between inning Batter Due Up OSD

But I really wish San Diego Studios would add the "1 for 2, 2 for 2" type stat next to the 3 batters.

The way I would do it if I worked for Sony is show the 3 batters AVG when they have not batted yet. And if they did have at least one at bat show what they did on the day example "1 for 1"

I pretty sure most Baseball TV broadcast have been doing this for years now.

And last but definitely not least that new Scorebug and Home Run OSD looks really nice!

But I hope San Diego Studios adds back "2 Run Home Run, 3 Run Home Run and Grand Slam" to the Home Run OSD which was removed from MLB The Show 21 for some strange reason!

                          O one last big thing!

San Diego Studios PLEASE add new in game animations that show base runners interacting with the first and third base coaches and even the players after a single, double and triple.

Currently all you ever really see is players showing off pumping their fist and so on.

It would be nice to see the batter who just got a simple base hit standing at first talking to his coach, adjusting his gloves, taking his mouthpiece out or even talking to the first basemen maybe talking and laughing.

You see this all the time in real MLB TV Broadcasts!

                          Thanks

I’m in 2024 of a TS20 RTTS, playing for the Rays, and Blake Snell just came off a two month injury by pitching in relief before being back in the starting lineup… does that count as a partial rehab assignment?

Question about the new Fan Cam feature?

Are you actually going to be able pick one of these cameras for CPU VS CPU games? Or is it only going to be part of presentation elements?

Please tell me that is the case

This was one of my requested features for years and years. I always wanted to be able to watch a game from almost any part of a stadium like from the upper deck behind home plate

Yes that little detail needs to be added to the post season scorebug.

It should show example NLDS BOS 2-0, World Series LA 1-0 and so on
