I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

If you can learn how to use pinpoint it won't make things better. It is even more accurate than analog. I'd recommend using classic and let the player ratings matter more.Comment

Absolutely loving this game, I started my Bravos QC HOF default(just increased pitch speeds) franchise, with opening Nationals series. Broadcast on twitch:

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I am sincerely hoping it is patched/fixed. I don't have enough time to play video games to spend 45 to 60 minutes on each game.. and the quick counts (the way it was in previous versions) is the best way I can end up getting realistic pitch counts/walk totals ...
But yeah playing it as they have it now, it's really not optimal having everyone reach 90 to 100 pitches by the 4th or 5th inning.

If you have universal dh on, you don't need to worry what the other 2 non-dh lineups look like. even if it did something crazy like put a left-handed CF'er at catcher or batted your closer at cleanup, why would you care? those lineups aren't going to appear in a gameOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I only got one game in last night so I didn't get the full experience. I know the graphics get a lot of crap but to me the lighting is so much better this year and something about the uniforms just looks a like crisper to me than in years past. The colors seemed a lot more vibrant than I remember last year. (Xbox Series X)Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
After having played nearly 50 games, I thought it was sufficient enough hands on to provide some put together thoughts on this year's game.
First and foremost, on the field, where it matters the most to me as I will spend at least 90% of my time, the game is simply amazing. The changes to reaction time/jump for fielders helps open up the offense a bit more, but not to the point where the game is an arcade type feel of putting up gaudy numbers of runs, hits, homeruns, etc... The gameplay is extremely balanced and while highlight plays on defense have always felt rewarding, this year they feel just that much more special. One false step, one bad judgement on route to the ball can be the difference between a true single to a sure double, or a stand up double to a triple. Its a fine line that plays out beautifully and organically.
By way of the change to the reaction of fielders, the hit variety has opened up that much more. Its a beautiful thing to lace a liner down the line knowing that 99% of the time you're going to get a double because the fielder isn't going to get to the ball and will have to angle it to the wall. More balls in the gap are able to roll to the wall or at least deeper in the gap so that the not so fleet of foot can record a double instead of being held to a single. Overall, hitting feels more pure, for lack of a better way of describing it.
Pitching got a bit more difficult due in part to the changes to fielding and the changes to hitting (Clutch rating when RISP). But its not throw the ball and pray it stays in the yard or is hit right at someone. You can still get hitters out, you can still strike hitters out, you can still keep them off-balance. Its beautiful. But as someone who uses the meter interface while pitching, the PAR got less forgiving this year, leading to more walks and more hangers.
The changes to hitting and pitching make what was already my favorite part of the on field play, pitcher vs batter matchup, that much more engaging and rewarding when you're successful. Punching out hitters with RISP in a tight ball game is so damn rewarding, because you know a mistake is likely going to get hit hard and its likely not going to result in runs.
The presentation this year is simply outstanding. The improvements to commentary, the new regional network packages, the Game of the Week package, all leads to the commentary/presentation feeling fresh and feels more like a tv broadcast. Sure there are things that I would like to see and am hoping its because they need to be triggered with a patch or I need to be further into the season, but at face value, in its simplest form, presentation is the best this series has ever had, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
In connection with presentation, the emotion the game has this year really helps immerse you into the game and into the pressures and feelings of what is happening within the game. Seeing players on the top step celebrating homeruns, batters discussing calls with umpires, runners talking to base coaches, guys pounding the dirt when they make an error, hitters showing their bat to the ump on a check swing appeal, and the list goes on. All of this helps bring the game, on the field, to life, and I hope this is an area that is expanded upon in the future.
Franchise got an update this year that was sorely needed in the revamp of the draft. The draft experience prior was nothing more than point and click with little thought behind any actions within the experience. That has changed. The revamped draft makes you consider how you're scouting, who you're scouting, and makes you focus on establishing a plan to make your draft a success. I've gone thru 3 weeks of the scouting process and I've honestly spent more time in the scouting process in those 3 sessions than I did in all the scouting I did in '22, which was available to you every single day until the draft was over. Its such a welcomed addition, and I'm eager to get to the draft to see how my first go about it fares.
There are still things that I'm hoping get added/changed in the mode in the not so distant future, but the CBA changes, schedule changes, playoff changes, and most notably the draft experience changes, are solid additions for myself. Couple these with the presentation and on field gameplay and '23 is going to provide me quite easily the best overall package experience this series has had to offer.Comment
