The Show would benefit greatly from an ERA mode. They added 6 new stadiums this year, they could add 6 or so from the 80s or 90s, a roster update to that era and add the old rules and done. Could have a new era each year.

That's EA for ya.They have to put more into Madden than an NHL game though and when they get something right it's only by accident. You can add things but when you make something like penalties non-existent....Comment

I would be instantly sold if they could do an eras mode like 2k. Let the commuting handle the roster, just give us the filters, gear, uniforms.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
Disappointed
Graphics are a tad better
Way 2 many Generic faces for MLB players and Minors
Bat sounds i dont feel are good
My 2 biggest issues are camera (as it seems it rotates with balls to LF or RF) and custom camera been using same custom camera every year and cant get it nailed down after trying for a hour
Personally I wouldve liked to seem them build on 22
I thought maybe the reverberation mode was off but no.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I played 3 games last night. My experience was positive. The game feels really good to me.
Quick thoughts:
1) I need to figure out the new throwing meter. After hardly ever having errors in past versions, I had 6 in a game last night. 5 of them were off my bad throws. This used to be automatic but definitely not for me right now.
2) The batting/pitching interactions feel great (they usually do which to me is the best part of the game but seems even more polished).
3) After a couple games on 23. I decided to play MLB 20 and use a classic 1988 roster. Graphically, I could tell zero difference using MLB20 on my PS5 vs MLB23 on my PS5 (actually the game on MLB20 looked better but I think that was just because that was a bright sunny day in Philly vs a dreary day at Wrigley). This isn't to say graphics are bad as I think other than grass, everything looks good. But I notice zero upgrade here from MLB20, MLB21. MLB22, or MLB 23 on PS5.
4) I hope they fix quick counts to how it was in past versions. Pitch counts are now sky high in MLB23.
So overall, if you just look at MLB23 for the game it is, I think it is very good.
If you compare it to MLB20 it is still great but I couldn't honestly say there is a significant difference. Subtle changes that I think make it feel better but I don't think anything significant.
And to me that is my biggest complaint. I understand baseball is baseball but this game has really been stuck in neutral. Adding the Negro league stuff is a cool feature but it is in a mode that doesn't really interest me personally. I gave it a quick look and was really drawn in by the narration which is fantastic but I wasn't into having to do the tasks (i.e. strike out 4 batters with Satchel Paige). Franchise is essentially the same other than scouting tweaks (which I haven't explored as of now and have always used auto scouts).
I feel this franchise has been in neutral even more than Madden, NHL. PGA. NBA is the gold standard for what can be done (multple broadcast crews, real arena PA voices, ERAs mode, etc).. There are so many modes and options in that game! But even Madden has tried things with XFaxtors, momentum, tackle meters, free form passing, graphics changes, scouting changes, player role tags . NHL has added xfactor, custom leagues and options. PGA2K added a lot around golfer skill trees.
MLB The Show has added.......a tweaked throwing meter, new scouting and a Negro League Moments type mode. At the same time they eliminated year to year saves and sounds of the show.
That being said, what MLB does do it does extremely well. It is probably the best replica of the sport of all the video games. It is fun to play if you like baseball. It just isn't significantly more fun than in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, etc.
NBA 2K showed with their ERAS mode that there are creative things that can be done to enhance the game. MLB The Show needs to take a similar step in my opinion otherwise this game just becomes a tweaked version with updated rosters. Give us multiple broadcast crews. Give us an ERAs mode. Give us league customization modes. Or maybe it is something else outside of what has been done in other sports games. I feel more should be done. I'm sure the games creators work hard and there is a ton of behind the scene stuff they are doing but on the surface it is hard to see when I can plop a version in from 3-9 years ago and not notice huge differences.
Negativity aside. MLB 23 feels good so far and I will enjoy it
They have the thing that shows some players excel at home, night/day games, etc. Can't remember what it's called, but that is far enough. Just my opinion of course.

wait, WHAT? The lack of "big time improvements" is NOT due to the game being on Xbox.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
The AI shift logic is pretty bad. They just play straight up 95% of the time. Even against players labeled "Extreme Pull", it doesn't use the shift. Hopefully they'll adjust that; teams irl still shift most of the time, there's just limits on how far they can do so.
Also wish that they'd block mid-AB pitching changes online. Super annoying to fight through a 10 pitch AB only for them to bring in Ohtani on a 3-2 count.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I have a question. Which camera is the closest to The Show 15? That's the cam I have used forever but it's not in 23. I am currently using zoom but it doesn't feel quite right. It feels like a bit too much of the top of the screen is missing.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
Simmed to my first draft and draft signing period. I am impressed with the draft class generation. There are still some edits needed when it comes to corner OF and 1B/3B/C still but the ages are much better and honestly my first class was more balanced than I thought it would be. Still needs a bit of age editing too. The scouting is also more fun than I thought. I would like a sortable list but was fun nonetheless and took less time than I thought.Funkycorm

My guess? Those working on the game have lost their passion, lost some key developers, or Sony decided they can phone it in because fans of the game preach how perfect it is (much can be done.) and will buy it each year.
