Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

Mets dropped 2 of 3 against the Royals to fall to the third wildcard spot, clinging to a two game lead over the Padres for the last spot. One interesting thing I've noticed, I'm 34-15 in day games and 27-33 at night so apparently I just need more day games to turn this around.

I was able to get a look at my draft pick ratings, I came out of the draft with four A and four B potential players but the overall ratings are pretty low so who knows if they'll reach their full potential. I loaded up on pitching which I desperately need in my farm system and was also able to get a 99 potential left fielder in the 5th rounder, however he's 23 already

          DEADLINE DAY

          <img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52374412026_8e1968f82d_o.png" width="720" height="144" alt="IBL_header2">

Phoenix, AZ (AP) – The Intermountain Baseball League trade deadline was Monday at 3pm. This year there was a flurry of activity as contenders looked to add pieces for a championship run, while some teams looked to unload salary, while acquiring prospects as they look towards the future.

It was a wild day with the Phoenix Firebirds going full scale fire sale.

The Salt Rivers Rafters are shipping 32-year-old starting pitcher Rafael Ortiz (90 OVR, A POT) to Scottsdale in exchange for 25-year-old starting pitcher Willy Bermudez (64 OVR, B POT) and 22-year-old shortstop Steven Fink (66 OVR, A POT).

San Antonio has acquired 35-year-old starting pitcher Angelo Velez (90 OVR, A POT) from Phoenix in exchange for three prospects: 18-year-old second baseman Elden Young (58 OVR, B POT), 24-year-old shortstop Albert Santiago (67 OVR, B POT) and 25-year-old starter Eli Medina (67 OVR, C POT). The move helps the Firebirds shed some salary.

The Firebirds have also shipped out 36-year-old starter Rueben Starr (86 OVR, A POT) to Chandler in exchange for prospects: 19-year-old starter Josh Hunter (68 OVR, C POT) and 18-year-old second baseman Alden Potter (61 OVR, C POT).

Phoenix did not stop there as they shipped 33-year-old catcher Ray Ruiz (84 OVR, B POT) to Salt Lake for 24-year-old catcher Steven McMahan (68 OVR, B POT) and 21-year-old left fielder Earnest Garcia (52 OBVR, B POT).

Long Beach has sent 32-year-old starter Douglas Matsui (85 OVR, B POT) to Fort Worth in exchange for 20-year-old second baseman Willy Blanco (65 OVR, A POT) and 23-year-old first baseman Mark Mayfield (69 OVR, C POT).

San Diego made a big splash as they have traded for Albuquerque’s 30-year-old catcher Dan Rodriguez (96 OVR, A POT). In return the Mariachis will get three prospects: 21-year-old starter John Bozarth (67 OVR, A POT), 24-year-old second baseman Joel Leon (76 OVR, A POT) and 22-year-old third baseman Malcom Nunez (62 OVR, B POT).

The Seals also acquired 34-year-old closer Jimmy Madden (88 OVR, A POT) from Long Beach in exchange for 22-year-old closer Lucas Huff (67 OVR, B POT) and 21-year-old right fielder Charley Richardson (59 OVR, C POT). Long Beach unloads a big salary and San Diego gets a closer that they needed.

Henderson made a move to solidify their rotation as they acquired 35-year-old starter Gilberto Guzman (86 OVR, B POT) from Goodyear in exchange for 24-year-old starter John Doxakis (71 OVR, C POT) and 18-year-old first baseman Andy Jones (61 OVR, B POT).

San Antonio sent 35-year-old starter Andres Montoya (90 OVR, A POT) to Amarillo for 34-year-old reliever Harold Groniga (83 OVR, B POT). The Honey Hunters eat salary but also get a reliable #2 pitcher, while the Javeilnas add to an already solid bullpen.

Flagstaff picked up 30-year-old starter Ramon Garcia (86 OVR, B POT) from Tucson in exchange for three prospects: 24-year-old starter Alejandro Colon (75 OVR, C POT), 20-year-old right fielder Gil Molina (63 OVR, C POT) and 23-year-old second baseman Cody Morissette (63 OVR, C POT). The Hops then sent top pitching prospect Russell Fluty back down to Triple-A Albuquerque after he struggled in two starts.

The San Antonio Javelinas have waived 35-year-old catcher Juan Benitez. They still owe him $20M if he is not claimed, but the club felt that it could not justify that salary for a Triple-A player.

Eduardo Rodriguez (12-3, 3.74) faces Zach Eflin (7-8, 2.60) in game 3. Following the Rays series, the Tigers will host the Minnesota Twins for four games.

A's Eliminated by Astros in Game 3

The A's fell to the Astros 6-3, eliminating them from the playoffs.

Oakland got a strong start out of Michael Lorenzen who went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 9.

Houston's Luis Garcia was able to shut down the A's as well in his 6 innings of work. Allowing just one run despite having to work around 4 walks.

The A's were only down 2-1 when Lorenzen left the game but Seranthony Dominguez struggled mightily in the 7th, giving up 3 hits, a walk and 4 runs. One of those 4 was unearned following a rare error from Gold Gloves third baseman Matt Chapman.

The A's were able to get back two runs in the 8th with a two run shot from Brent Rooker off Houston reliever Seth Martinez.

However Brian Abreu was able to stop the bleeding in the 8th and work a scoreless 9th to close out the game for the Astros.

The Astros will take on the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS while the A's will look to build off a solid season and improve their team over the off-season.

So the Pirates have finished the first month of the 2023 season with probably what was expected from the fan base. Very bad pitching with a solid offense that if given a good pitching performance gives the team a solid chance to win the game.

Average: Oneil Cruz, .359. Jack Suwinski, .333. Connor Joe, .324.

                  Homeruns: Oneil Cruz, 8.

                  RBIs: Bryan Reynolds, 24.

                  SP ERA: Luis Ortiz, 3.42

                  Strikeouts: Mitch Keller, 30.

                  SP WHIP: Roansy Contreras, 1.41

                  Team stat leaders:

                  Best record: Rangers, 23-5

                  Worst record: Nationals, 6-22

                  Batting average: Rangers, .295. Pirates, .270 (6th)

Pirates make roster move to begin month of May

In need of some extremely better pitching all around a move had to be made. Pirates have decided to send down SP Vince Velasquez to AAA.

Velasquez finished the month of April with 6 starts. 1-2 record. 9.00era with 26k and 9bb. His 35 hits allowed to go along with 7 homeruns given up really did him in. What is crazy is that Rich Hill, who has also been awful allowed 10 homeruns himself.

Pirates call up SP JT Brubaker from Indianapolis. JT started 28 games in 2022 and the hope is that he can bring some energy in that rotation to get them going as a group.

In AAA JT started 6 games. 0-3 4.09era 19k 8bb. So really not good, however there isn't any great options for the team to try. Surely he can't be worse than Velasquez but we'll see.

Since it's taking me forever to complete a series, I will just post smaller updates for now...

The Nationals are embarking on a three city West Coast swing, starting with two against the Angels. Mike Trout is most likely out for the year, and the Angels are ten games below .500 at 64-74. The Nationals are 69-69, and now 2 games behind Miami for the second Wild Card spot. The Phillies have gotten hot and have moved ahead of Washington with a record of 70-70. Washington desperately needs to do well on this road trip if they want to make a run for the playoffs, although they do play Miami in a four game series to close out the 2023 season, which could make for a very dramatic finale.

Redbird Report - Cardinals reach mid-summer classic break with division lead

The Cardinals finished the first half of the 2024 regular season with a 59-32 record which is the 2nd best in Major League Baseball, only behind the Braves who are 60-31. The Cardinals limped into the all-star break having lost 4 of their last 5 and the two straight after losing the series to the Red Sox in Boston. Still, despite their struggles, the Cardinals maintain a 10 game lead over the Cubs and a 16 game lead over the Brewers.

The Cardinals suffered a major injury blow at the end of June when Tommy Edman tore his MCL sliding into 2nd on a successful stolen base attempt. Edman led the majors in stolen bases with 28 after the successful attempt that led to the injury. The Cardinals are still deciding exactly how to handle the vacant SS role and leadoff role in the lineup. Joey Gallo also returned to the IL, this time with a strained tricep. Gallo was injured in early April with a fractured shin that sidelined him for nearly 9 weeks.

The Cardinals head into the break with some decisions to be made as to what holes to fill for the 2nd half run between now and the July 31st trade deadline. Bullpen is expected to be a point of emphasis, as well as bettering the bench. Another capable MLB starting pitcher isn't out of the question either, even if its a minor league option that is ready. The rotation has been solid, but the fear of injury and struggles at Memphis with their arm MLB ready arms, is a concern.

Not really a whole lot to look at with a team that boasts the 2nd best record in baseball and owns a double digit game lead in the division, but the Cardinals don't want to face a monumental collapse in the 2nd half either, and want to make a deep October run.

It will be interesting to see how the front office handles the roster over the next few weeks. Some prospects could be moved and its not out of the realm of possibility that an everyday starter or two is moved for the right return price. The Cardinals have one goal this year and thats reaching the postseason after missing out last year.

Around the Bases of the League

1st) Anthony Volpe (KC) enters the All-Star break with a 25 game hitting streak.

2nd) Blake Snell (COL) leads the majors with 130 strikeouts thus far on the season.

3rd) Tyler Glasnow (CHC) tossed a no-hitter against the Pirates. The 19th no-hitter in Cubs history

Home) The AL East remains the best division in baseball with all 5 teams separated by 4 games

A Look in the Bird's Nest - Minor League Report

                            * 3B/1B/OF Jordan Walker (AAA-Memphis) was invited to the Futures Game. Walker ended up 1 for 2 with a walk and a double. Walker was also voted the starting 3rd basemen in the AAA all-star game. Its expected that after the all-star break, Walker will be recalled to St.Louis.

                            * OF Tre Flether (AAA Memphis) who was on the outside looking in at Springfield (AA) has quickly become one of the top call up prospects for the big league club. Fletcher has gone from AA to AAA and now is the everyday centerfielder, replacing top prospect Mike D'Antico.

                            * C Dalton Rushing (AA Springfield) has been placed on the IL with a shoulder injury. Rushing who was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers this winter, who made the 26 man big league roster out of spring camp, has watched everything just spiral down hill after March. Hopefully Rushing can return this year and find some success at the minor league level.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Clase in the game has been the same way for me. I dont know what the deal is. He's blown 4 of his last 6 saves. Just cant get him right. Ive started using Stephan more for closing 1 run games, and Clase if its a 2 or 3 run lead to try and get him back hot.
