    Trade Alert

Well, the rumors were true, Anthony Rizzo is no longer a Washington National. He, along with Lane Thomas and Tres Barrera were dealt to the Rockies for three prospects: 3B Warming Bernabel, SP Miguel Quiñones, and RP Charley Chavis. The trade works well for both clubs, as Colorado is still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot and gets veteran help, whilst Washington departs from a struggling Rizzo, who was a free agent at the end of the year. Lane Thomas was also struggling, but was also not playing everyday, and is trapped between the starting outfielders and the young talent that is almost ready for the majors.

As for Washington, they get three players that are either 20 or 21 years old and will almost certainly be MLB ready in a year or two. In Bernabel they get a 3B that could be a backup behind Gleyber Torres already, but they will keep him at AAA for now. Both pitchers are lefties, and need some development but already have shown MLB ability in the minors.

Joey Meneses and Donovan Casey have been called up from AAA to fill the vacant roster spots.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

So I started a new franchise last night with the Mets. Finally starting a new one post TDL and getting that going with the final rosters of the regular season.

Idk about anyone else, but running through the first offseason, things seemed very very good. Trade values were great, hard to get any big SP (Guardians and Brewers wanted Alvarez for Burnes, Woodruff or Bieber, I passed). Stats seemed awesome when I simmed through

I'm excited to get a new one going. Hopefully will continue this one up until 24 comes out!

        2024 Washington Nationals

Game One: Matthew Thompson (2-2, 1.62) vs Felipe Escalona (4-3, 4.35)

Andrew Vaughn hit a two run home run in the first and the Nationals never trailed afterwards. Luis Garcia and Brandon Drury drove in runs in the third and Mitch Haniger singled a run in in the fifth before Andrew Vaughn closed the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth. Felipe Escalona pitched well, going 6.2 innings and giving up three runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out six. Aaron Bummer got his first save of the year as Trevor Rosenthal got a day off.

Game Two: Hunter Greene (7-5, 2.84) vs Josiah Gray (1-4, 4.86)
Hunter Greene had to leave in the third inning with what ended up being a fractured arm, and he will miss 2-3 months, effectively ending his season. Josiah Gray was great again, going seven innings and giving up just one run on an RBI single from Andrew Benentendi while striking out six. Brandon Nimmo tied the game with a solo home run off of Matt Wisler in the sixth, but Carl Edwards Jr would give up a go-ahead solo home run to Matt McLain in the ninth. Zach Eflin would come on to get the save in a game where the Nationals could only muster three hits.

The Nationals pulled off their trade with the Rockies following this game (see post above). In addition to Joey Meneses and Donovan Casey being called up from AAA, Joan Adon was sent to Rochester in exchange for veteran lefty Will Smith.

Game Three: Nick Lodolo (5-6, 2.74) vs MacKenzie Gore (7-6, 4.93)
Taijuan Walker was scheduled to start this game, but David Bell had to do some tweaking to the rotation following Hunter Greene’s potentially season ending injury.

MacKenzie Gore once again pitched well, but was given no run support in six innings of work. He only gave up one hit for the first five innings, which was a two run home run by Noelvi Marte. Gore gave up two more hits in the sixth and finished with two walks and three strikeouts. The Nationals would rally later in the game, getting one run in the sixth on an RBI double from Brandon Drury, and then tying the game in the eighth on a leadoff home run by Andrew Vaughn, his fourth hit of the game. The Reds would retake the lead in the 11th when Aaron Judge blooped a 1-2 pitch into shallow center with the infield playing in. That would be the deciding run as Washington could not advance the runner in the bottom of the 11th.

Game Four: Graham Ashcraft (6-8, 3.49) vs Lucas Giolito (5-6, 4.86)
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how hard you hit the ball. The Nationals were hitting Ashcraft HARD but every ball found a glove, and he was just one walk away from being perfect in this one. He pounded the zone with cutters in the high 90s and the majority of them ended up as fly balls in the outfield. The Reds scored three runs off of Giolito and added a fourth on Jo Adell’s first home run as a Red (he was just called up two games ago) off of Victor Arano in a game that was as one sided as they come.

The Nationals (44-51) will stay at home for a three game weekend set against the Marlins (50-44) before getting a much needed week off for the All Star Game. The Anthony Rizzo trade makes some people call out the team as giving up on the year, and while no one will say that publicly, the front office knows that it is not their year, even if they finish near .500. The division is too strong and they are looking towards the future.

          2024 Pittsburgh Pirates 06/14-06/16

Overall Record:49-23 (1st NL Central/6.0 over Milwaukee Brewers)

          Game Results

          Game 1
          Pirates-10
          Marlins-0

          Game 2
          Pirates-2
          Marlins-1

          Game 3
          Pirates-4
          Marlines-2

Pirates take top spot in MLB with sweep of Marlins

The Pirates are just one game away from 50 wins and could be the first to reach that milestone in 2024. With the Pirates sweep of the Marlins, they took over the top spot in the MLB in regards to the best overall record. The Atlanta Braves are close behind (48-24) the Dodgers are in third (46-25).

Coming into the Marlins series, the Pirates had been having a hard time scoring or even getting hits early in the game. That changed atleast in game one as the Pirates tagged Miami's starter, Devin Smeltzer for three runs in the second inning. Two of those came off of Tucupita Marcano's first homer of the season. The offense didnt stop there however as CJ Cron added a homerun of his own (#15) in the 5th inning and then the offense exploded for a six run 7th inning . Mitch Keller was stellar in his seven innings as he allowed just 4 hits, no runs, 1 walk and he had 7 strikeouts. Jordan Hicks and Johan Oviedo closed out the game as both pitched a inning a piece allowing just a 1 combined hit and striking out three.

The offense did revert back to their old ways in games two and three. In game two, neither team scored until the 10th inning where the Pirates were able to get two while the Marlins only managed to get one.

Pittsburgh did get on the board early in game three as they scored four in the first two innings but went cold after that and didnt score another. Luckily, Blake Snell and company only allowed two runs to Miami as the Pirates took the win and the sweep. The win was also Snell's 10th of the season as both he and Luis Urias continue to be front runners for the CY Young award.

The Pirates will look to get that 50th win and more as they now travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies (38-33/2nd NL East)

I’m playing older show MLB 2019. Just played opening day and my superstar 2B who went homerless in Spring Training naturally hits HR in first AB of first game lol.

              2024 Washington Nationals

Game One: Sixto Sanchez (4-6, 4.05) vs Stephen Strasburg (8-7, 2.90)
The Marlins managed just four hits in the game, but made the most of them despite striking out 12 times. Jazz Chisholm drove in their first run in the fifth and Jorge Polanco homered in the sixth before Washington rallied behind a two run home run from Luis Garcia. Jazz Chisholm homered off of Aaron Bummer in the ninth to give Miami a 3-2 victory in a well pitched game for both sides.

Game Two: Sandy Alcantara (11-4, 1.89) vs Felipe Escalona (5-3, 4.33)
Felipe Escalona was put on a 75-80 pitch limit as a precaution, but he was able to go 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, no walks and six strikeouts. Sandy Alcantara was better, going 6.2 innings of one run ball on five hits, five walks and five strikeouts. The Nationals had their best scoring opportunity in the seventh but could only muster one run, which came on a fielder's choice by Brandon Nimmo.

Game Three: Trevor Rogers (5-7, 4.02) vs Josiah Gray (1-4, 4.57)
The Marlins set the tone for the series finale early, with Jazz Chisholm and Jake Fraley going back to back to put up three runs in the first. CJ Cron continued the bombardement in the second with a three run shot. Josiah Gray left after 3.1 innings as he just did not have his best stuff today, and the Nationals could afford to empty the bullpen as this was the last game prior to the All-Star Break. Miami would score three more runs late in the game, whilst Washington would have a lone run on a Brandon Drury solo home run in the fifth until they mounted a small rally in the eighth and ninth innings. The bottom of the lineup finally got to a tiring Trevor Rogers, scoring two runs on base hits from Wilmer Perez and Victor Robles, and Andrew Vaughn hit a solo home run in the ninth.

I believe I said this last season, but: The Washington Nationals (44-54) crawl into the All-Star Break after a brutal stretch of games. The scheduling committee did not do them any favors as they had a long stretch of games, but that is not an excuse to end the unofficial first half on a six game losing streak.

That being said, they are definitely sellers this year, although I can’t see myself making any other moves after the Anthony Rizzo deal. Josiah Gray and Victor Robles are both free agents at the end of the year and could possibly be bundled together for some prospects, but they fit nicely with the team and are still young. The second half of the season will be interesting, even if Washington won’t be making a Cinderella postseason run like they did last season.

Well, so much for not making any more trades. The Kansas City Royals are looking to make some moves as they are still in the Wild Card hunt this year; and they reached out to Washington, offering Gio Urshela for closer Trevor Rosenthal. It was a tough decision to make, but Washington accepted the offer. Carl Edwards Jr. looks like the top candidate to be the closer going forward, although he has never actually been a dedicated closer before. Lucius Fox, who has been playing well, was sent back to AAA to make room for both Gio Urshela and Gleyber Torres, who is set to return from the IL after the All-Star Break.

Pirates complete roadtrip sweep with three over Phillies

The Pirates are starting to pull away from the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central and have maintained their lead atop the MLB as a whole. The Braves are still hot on their heels (51-27).

The Phillies series went well with both sides of the ball playing pretty well. The second game did wind up being a pitchers dual between the Pirates Jack Flaherty (8.0 IP 4 H 0 R 5 SO) and the Phillies Taijuan Walker (7.1 IP 5 H 0 R 1 walk). The game went into extra innings tied 0-0. That marks the second such game the Pirates have been involved in during this road trip.

The 10th inning started off shaky as Termarr Johnson hit a groundball to shortstop. The Pirates ghost runner, Jack Suwinksi tried to make it to third on that ball and was thrown out. Luckily, Matt Frazier came up later in the inning and hit a two run shot to left field (his 11th on the year). The Phillies to manage one in the bottom half but David Bednar was able to keep them from tying it up as he got his league leading 24th save.

Matt Frazier hit another homerun in game three. His twelve homeruns and 35 rbi's have him in the running for rookie of the year. If only he could get his average up from below the mendoza line.

The Pirates will look to keep the streak going as they head back home for a short two game series with the St Louis Cardinals (34-40/3rd NL Central).

                    Pirates streak reaches nine

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one away from a ten game winning streak. The Pirates returned home for a two game mini series with divisional foe St Louis Cardinals toward the end of June. That series resulted in a hard fought two game sweep

Despite being 19 games out of 1st place, the Cardinals have a very good lineup which is still highlighted by Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt.

In game one, the Pirates were able to overcome a two homerun performance by Goldschmidt. That win was thanks to the team's three run eighth in which Andrew Mccutchen and Termarr Johnson were able to get rbis that gave Pittsburgh the lead.

Game two saw the Pirates concede an early lead to the Cardinals who led 3-0 after just the first inning thanks to a Arrenado three run HR. The Pirates were again able to erase that deficit and take the lead.

David Bednar saved both games and now has 26 on the year. Julio Urias struck out eight in his game one start to increase his NL strikeout lead to 124.

The Pirates will now head toward the end of June with three Vs. the Texas Rangers (42-36/3rd AL West).

In year 1. We set the MLB record for wins finishing with a record of 119-43 and first place in the NL West.

Juan Soto won the MVP, Batting Title, and the Triple crown finishing the year hitting .326 with 52 HR and 139 RBI.
Finishing in second place in the MVP voting was SP Michael Wacha, who won the CY Young with a 21-2 record and 1.65 ERA.

                      Other individual awards:
Hank Aaron award - Juan Soto
Gold Gloves - Ha-Seong Kim and Fernando Tatis Jr
Silver Sluggers - Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr

In the post-season we swept Milwaukee 3-0 in the NLDS and completely dominated the Diamondbacks in the NLCS by not only sweeping them 4-0, but also shutting them out in every game, and only allowing 1 hit in each of the first 3 games.

We now await the winner of LAA and Tex in the World Series.

Juan Soto is scorching hot in the playoffs and the favorite for Postseason MVP hitting .407 with 5 HR's and 7 RBI in 7 games. He is being closely trailed by Ha-Seong Kim (.333, 2 HR, 2 RBI) and OF Jung-Hoo Lee (.304, 1 HR, 8 RBI).

17 games into my new Braves franchise, and I'm having a much better time with this one than my A's franchise.

So far I've played 8 games and quick managed the other 9 (I like to play every game first time through the rotation, then I mostly play 1 game per series). Sitting at 12-5, but Ronald Acuña just landed on the 10 day IL. He's been on fire to start the year. In 17 games, he's got a 1.464 ops, 8 HR, 22 RBI, and 9 Stolen Bases. He's already up to 1.8 WAR. Matt Olson has been great too, with a 1.116 OPS, 10 HR, and 20 RBI. So far, I lead baseball in hits, runs, and home runs.

                          Will the streak ever end????

The Pirates have now won twelve in a row with their latest sweep of the Texas Rangers. As usual, the wins did not come easily as the Rangers scored first in the first two games. The Pirates starters were able to keep it from getting out of hand however as Roansy Contreras and Jack Flaherty allowed just a single run in that first at bat for the Ranges.

Cj Cron (15) and Anthony Santander (20,21) both broke out of their homerun slumps in game three as the Pirates finished off the sweep with the 4-1 victory.

Andrew Mccutchen was taken out of everyday lineup against right handers. He has struggled mightily this season, mostly against RHP it was a decision that Pirates nation knew needed to happen but with him being so treasured in the city, it was a hard one. He will still start against lefties as he is still performing pretty well against them.

Ji-Hwan Bae replaced Mccutchen in the lineup vs RHP. Bae has been great thus far in his 29 games. He currently holds an average of .329 and his ops is .894. It would be great if he can keep that up as he starts to get more plate appearances.

The Pirates will now end their homestand and the month of June with three games Vs. the Red Sox (33-48/5th AL East)

WE WON THE WORLD SERIES! Padres defeated the Rangers 4-1 to win the first WS title in team history.

Juan Soto was absolutely INSANE this year for us and in line for HUGE raise in arbitration (or a long term dreal):
Regular Season: .326 52 hr 139 RBI. MVP, Triple Crown, Silver Slugger
Post Season: .341 8 HR 10 RBI Postseason MVP
World Series: .364 5 HR 8 RBI World Series MVP

We will look to retool this offseason as well as stay competitive.

Notable FAs with their contract this past year
                            Josh Hader - 14.1 mil
                            Blake Snell - 10 mil
                            Gary Sanchez - 7.5 mil
Michael Wacha - 7 mil (Cy Young winner. 21-2 with a 1.65 ERA)
                            Scott Barlow 5.3 mil
                            Ji-Man Choi - 4.5 mil
                            Garrett Cooper - 4.2 mil
                            Jurickson Profar - 2.4 mil
                            Tim Hill - 1.8 mil

That is 56.8 mil available this offseason. Plus there are several notable arbitration players who can shed salary like Trent Grisham and Austin Nola.

We may look to also unload Jake Cronenworth and his 9.3 mil salary. Will be an interesting off-season with moves to be posted!

Off-season complete and we're ready for year 2.

We did make QO to all 3 of Snell, Wacha, and Hader. We did get a biter and Blake Snell is back on a 1 year 20 mil deal. Wacha ended up going to the Rockies on a 2 year 44 mil deal. Josh Hader went to the White Sox on a 4 yr 62.8 mil deal. Shohei Ohtani went to the Dodgers on an 11 yr 385 mil contract. We were in the running but i was not going 11 years.

We did add some players to our team.
