That first Vladdy screenshot, his left elbow... It's a small ask, but I wish jerseys didn't clip through player equipment. Jerseys even clip through themselves.

No big deal, I still LOVE this game!

I always buy day one bc this will carry me through 95%+ of my total video game play time until January/February or so of every year. SO for me, the cost is always justified by the amount of time spent on this game. For MLBTS23, that amounted to 720 hours.

This trailer from The Show 15 still does it for me:

And in all seriousness, you could’ve put The Show 24 under it and no one would notice..

Oh how I miss the days. That’s an incredibly well done trailer. We even got a teaser trailer for that year’s game in DECEMBER! Here we are, now less than a month from release, without a proper trailer.

I'd rather see physics on the uniforms.

What's weird is that I'm pretty sure hair simulation is actually more difficult to pull off than cloth simulation. It does look genuinely good here so I'm definitely not trying to minimize their efforts, but it's an interesting choice. That said, this might be the first clear instance of a current gen graphics enhancement in this series. Wish it didn't take until the 4th game to happen but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

I agree, there are only so many players in the league that have long hair anyways, whereas every single player in the league wears a uniform so why wouldn’t they spend their time applying physics to that instead?

I'm just hoping they finally update AJ Minter's face scan in MLB the Show 24. Dude has had a well trimmed beard since about 2020 and yet every year, he still looks like he could pass as a family member on Duck Dynasty.

The best transition point someone can use to compare visuals would be the jump from MLB 16 to 17. You would find a massive visual difference there since MLB 17 was the first game exclusively on PS4 and not cross-gen like MLB 16 was. If you want to go even further back for bigger visual leaps, look at MLB 11 on PS2 to MLB 12 when it became an exclusive PS3 title.

MLB 17 was the first big visual overhaul since SDS themselves specifically mentioned in the feature reveals for that launch that they ditched a lot of legacy PS3 code since 16 was the last version of The Show on PS3.

With this in mind, it's okay to consider MLB 17 the "modernized" version of The Show. They've been slowly improving skin/lighting shaders, hair and head shapes for players, etc. ever since.

The only thing at this point that I think people could agree on that would really make a difference visually IMO is overhauling the body models so there is far more variance/refinement in player body types beyond the same "Normal/Husky/Fat/Buff" we've had since MLB 17.

My game dev speculation as to why that hasn't been done yet at all is probably the significant amount of animations the game has added and refined over the years that are rigged to the same body shapes they've been using since MLB 12 on PS3, so retargeting the animations to the new body models would take an extensive amount of time and work, especially for a game made with an in-house engine and not something like Unreal.

You'd also have to take into account the amount of QA involved in making sure the animations you would be migrating over to this new body model interact with the environment in a realistic way or at least 1:1 with the old body model. It would be impossible to pull off in one development cycle, but if anything, they've probably been cooking on this as a side project since MLB 21 since the newer consoles can push far more polygons than last gen.

lol So that means we get the same body models for 10 years before they get upgraded?

I do think an update to the cloth physics would make a really big difference in this game and how the player models look.

Overall, I'm happy with the way the game looks. Wish it was easier for sports game to incorporate things like tattoos that would also help distinguish the players even more, but I know that tends to be a tougher thing to do (though 2K doesn't have any real problems with it). Smaller things like that to me would help out a ton for the look of the game without major player model overhauls.

You make a good point. I don't know why they haven't changed the uniforms to move more naturally with free physics. It's probably a framerate issue and I bet this new hair isn't gonna play well with the older hardware. Maybe they disabled it for the older systems. It'd be a wise choice.

its hard for me to care about graphics much these day. if the game doesn't hurt to look at, its fine. sure, i wish there was actual jersey fabric physics and other things that make things feel more apart of the world, but i can live without it when the gameplay, most years, is really solid to me.

if the gameplay stays good, ill enjoy 24. if there are more small features added, ill love 24. sadly probably wont get the later (as a roster maker the lack of confirmation of toni stone inclusion meaning women created players bums me a little and create a stadium looks to be the same ol), but i still expect to enjoy my time with 24. just my own two cents

Yeah I would say that the player models themselves are fine as is for the most part. It's just the uniform template that needs to update. Cloth simulation would be huge, not only look more realistic but could react to wind and add a ton of atmosphere. But even beyond that there just needs to be more variation in the way players wear their jerseys. Some guys don't wear an undershirt, or wear a different color than the default. Some leave the top button undone. Some leave the top 2 buttons undone. Some players like their necklaces out and not tucked in. Some guys wear super tight pants. Some have their pants pulled up above their knee. I feel like there's so much untapped potential in adding personalization to players just through the way they wear their uniform and it's just not being utilized.

Not to even mention different style templates. They already added the very old style baggy wool uniforms with the negro leagues which is great(although that style is exclusive to the mode itself, they revert to the default style when selected in a regular game). How about pullovers? There are many pullover throwbacks already in the game but are forced to be button down style in the game. The Nationals are adding a new pullover alternate to their lineup this year. Its as good a reason as any to revamp these templates. And how about we fix the placement of the numbers on nameless jerseys? Why we are still asking for this in the year of our lord 2024 I'll never know. So much can be done with uniforms, they feel so behind the times as they are currently.

And don't even get me started on the uniform creator. I could talk all day about the ways that thing needs an overhaul.

I completely forgot about this. What an amazing trailer. I feel like last year’s gameplay trailer and even the year before had none of that special feeling like these older ones did. Watching this now, it just puts me in the mood for baseball and makes me feel hyped up for the game.

I think a lot of the improvements get overlooked because this gen is a much smaller leap visually than the last one.

But the stadiums in particular look much better and everything runs smoother.

I don't think it's a great looking game like NBA 2k. But NBA only has 10 players on the court at a time and an NBA arena is much much smaller and indoors.

I think they could do a lot to make the uniform materials look more realistic.

I would not expect a complete overhaul unless they take a year off which is not happening.

I also don't know why people point to Madden or NHL because the Show looks miles better than both those games. Especially when you add in how much better the player creator is.

It's lacking when compared to NBA, but as far as sports games go it's about where I'd expect.

But I love that the graphics are a constant complaint from the same group that claims to not care about them still play MVP 04....
