People look at the MVP games through rose colored glasses. They’re remembering the fun they had with it at the time and are thinking it’s better than The Show is today. They were good for their time sure, but they do not compare to todays game in the slightest. Play the show for a month and then play MVP for a month and then tell me which one is better. Had MVP stuck around there’s no reason to think it would have improved, as EA Sports titles outside of FIFA is nothing to write home about.

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread
I think a lot of the improvements get overlooked because this gen is a much smaller leap visually than the last one.
But the stadiums in particular look much better and everything runs smoother.
I don't think it's a great looking game like NBA 2k. But NBA only has 10 players on the court at a time and an NBA arena is much much smaller and indoors.
I think they could do a lot to make the uniform materials look more realistic.
I would not expect a complete overhaul unless they take a year off which is not happening.
I also don't know why people point to Madden or NHL because the Show looks miles better than both those games. Especially when you add in how much better the player creator is.
It's lacking when compared to NBA, but as far as sports games go it's about where I'd expect.
But I love that the graphics are a constant complaint from the same group that claims to not care about them still play MVP 04....

Agreed until you look at the grass and dirt. It's one of those things I never noticed until I saw it on these boards. But once you see it, it's hard to unsee how bad it is.Comment

Also, some of the collision in the minor league stadiums seems halfbaked.

Help me out with this. Having gone to fan appreciation day at Petco and walking on the infield dirt…..it was like walking on cement it was so compacted. It didn’t remind me of dirt at all.Comment

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread
I think the grass needs more attention than the dirt. It looks so dull and washed out. It needs to be a much more deep and vibrant green. Honestly I think the dirt would look better if they got rid of the bread crumbs.Comment

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread
Thats the only issue I have with the dirt its to me it's pretty minor.

Re: MLB The Show Graphics Discussion Thread
Some fields have “okay” dirt in The Show, and by that I mean it has hi(enough)-res textures but weirdly laid down from the point of view you’re playing and other fields just have really bad (low-res) textures for the dirt. And then the “bread crums” they introduced since the ps4, get rid of it completely or make the dirt more real looking so that it blends in more.
The grass is a whole other beast. It looks fine in close up shots but even then the “grass engine” keeps rendering all the individual shades of grass in real time which makes the grass flicker on screen. When the camera is further away (or in play) it turns from 3d rendered grass to 2d flat tarmac companioned with a flat colour pallet. I understand it can’t keep it’s quality as in the close up shots but their should be a better in between graphical solution sort of speak. A nice middle ground."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Grass engine? I don’t see the flickering you’re talking about.Oh, well, we’ll see what happens.

If we’re talking about hair, shrubbery, and water physics in a baseball game, I think it’s clear that the base physics are fine considering it’s primary focus is supposed to be the sport of baseball. I think we’re asking for nice to haves instead of must haves now.Comment
