Thanks for everybody's input one thing for sure. We all love baseball with a passion. Most of us have played baseball and it's in our blood

It doesn't matter how you intend to use names for players in offline play, the ESRB sets its rating based on certain parameters for each rating they give out. MLB/SDS want the game to be rated for everyone, therefore they must follow the guidelines put forth by the ESRB to obtain that rating and the censoring of certain words is part of it.
EA might be oblivious to what the ESRB wants. Super Mega Baseball 4 is rated E and you can name a player Asscock if you want, and the offensive Adcock.

And if I’m not mistaken SMB4 doesn’t allow roster sharing. It also isn’t licensed by MLB and MLBPA.

Another thing to consider is that the ESRB rating is assigned based on content disclosure by the publisher. If the ESRB enforcement committee determines that a publisher wasn’t forthcoming with the disclosure of content and violated the parameters of the rating guidelines then that publisher is subject to sanctions and fines of up to one million dollars.

So maybe due to their licensing agreement with the MLB, SDS chooses to be extra cautious when it comes to staying within the guidelines of the ESRB to avoid jeopardizing that partnership

Man, I feel bad if there’s a guy out there somewhere named Asscock.

I’d be filing the papers to change that the second I got out of the womb.

Not calling anyone out but saying SMB4 is not licensed by the MLB or MLBPA is correct but misleading. Read below from NINTENDO WORLD REPORT :

With the power of EA Sports, the best baseball game ever adds real-life players and a lot of depth and breadth.

When I reviewed the Switch release of Super Mega Baseball 2 in 2019, my only listed con was that it didn’t have the MLB license. Flash forward four years and two games and Super Mega Baseball 4 still doesn’t technically have the MLB license (the MLB Players Alumni Association is the license used here), but the addition of real-life retired pro baseball players fits the tone and vibe of the series perfectly.

I guess the ALUMNI are ok with obscenity. Maybe because I won't share my files I too should be allowed the same usage.

The work around only works when making a player from scratch not editing a editable player already on the roster.

                    1. Disconnect from internet entirely.
                    2. Go to create a player.
                    3. Enter the name you are wanting within reason.
                    4. Save your player.
                    5. Turn internet back on.

You are aware but didn't mention that fact? Wasn't that the basis for your opinion. The License? All along i spoke about OFFLINE usage of the vulgar text. You made my point by bringing up no file sharing for SMB4. If my router is disconnected from my console, do I not fall under no file sharing in the same manner? I realize you have been on this forum forever. I myself have been playing video games probably since before you were born. At some point you would have to admit your arguments in this case are weak to say the least. BUT I still respect your opinion. I will yield at this time to you. Out of respect for you I will accept your opinion and consider this issue closed. You have the respect of many followers, me not so much. In case you were wondering about the timing of my posts, I am not ducking anyone purposely. I live in a time zone that is 13hrs ahead of Eastern time.

It's a completely different license. The MLBPAA isn't MLB, it's a separate group with separate leadership.

…so send an email to Sony’s feedback section and ask them? You probably won’t get an answer but people here are, at best, just making reasonable guesses - we don’t know for sure.

Maybe it’s an agreement with their partners, maybe it’s SDS on their own being (overly?) cautious with a licensed property, maybe it’s a bug that just hasn’t been fixed. Send an email and find out. I believe in you!

No. A game that has no file sharing possible at all is a completely separate function (non-function?) than just simply disconnecting from the Internet. Because one could always reconnect to the internet but if there is no file sharing in a game to begin with, it makes Internet connection moot.
