I just had an absolute shoot-out game in my franchise. Back and forth, 10-7 final, it was awesome. I should not have this much fun in a video game.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread

You look at all of the excitement around EA's College Football that is about to come out (especially following the presentation trailer a few days ago) and compare that to the general public reaction to the previewed features of The Show '25 and it seems simple where the time and focus should be dedicated: presentation, Franchise, and gameplay tweeks.

On Presentation it should be modeled after an in-game experience I would encounter if I were to go to an Orioles or Rockies game mixed in with what I would see on a regional or national telecast. That means multiple announcer teams, outside stadium views for all MLB teams, more in-game highlights with highlights from around the league, include a sideline reporter like Ken Rosenthal, all relief pitchers get their special intro, between inning features like the Presidents racing at a Nationals game, ect.

It had been a while since I tried Franchise and March to Oct, but these modes need a lot of tlc. A great starting point would be to model after NBA 2K's MyLeague. March to Oct should allow for the option to play shortened seasons of 81, 40, ect game seasons.

These are just my thoughts on bringing buzz back to this game franchise.

What are people’s thoughts on the trade logic this year?
In franchise the Reds just traded Tyler Stevenson to the Orioles for Cole Irvin… how can that trade be explained ?

I’m finding it to be pretty good.

As far as the trade mentioned, going to need more information to evaluate trade outside of names alone.

Irvin is a C or D potential 30 year old starting pitcher with a just under 4 era, straight up for Stevenson, 27 year old A potential catcher.

Orioles also already have a healthy rutschman as their everyday catcher.. in addition no major injuries on either side

How is the Reds rotation doing? Bullpen? Stephenson can also play 1st base and/or DH. How is Mountcastle doing? DH productivity?

Spot in standings? Month of trade?

David Bell and GM Meador are idiots.
Reds are high on catching prospects coming behind Stephenson and want arms, plus they want to reallocate Stephenson's 2025 salary to another players upcoming 2025 contract. Is it a trade I would make? Probably not, but you have to be inside the Cincy clubhouse to really know whats going on behind the scenes. Maybe Stephenson is a cancer on his teammates. Maybe he's having an affair with Brent Suter's wife and Cincy brass don't approve. Maybe he's having an affair with Suter. Use your imagination. There are a hundred reasons why a player gets traded IRL for silly reasons. IRL players sometimes have behind the scene issues that a video game doesn't try to replicate. You have to fill in those blank gaps for yourself. If the Phillies traded Bryce Harper in my universe and I didn't see the logic, I'm just rolling with the thought his relationship with mgmt. soured. It happens. Obladi oblada Life Goes On.

So glad they fixed the CPU trade bug. I’m enjoying the trades that I’ve seen thus far.

Trades started in late June and after first day of July 3 trades took place as the Guardians, Cubs and Braves made trades to address injury concerns with mlb depth.

                  Well done

Upgrading to PS5 soon, which version of MLBTS would you recommend: '23 or '24?

I really enjoyed '23 for PS4. I play every pitch of each game and really enjoy the Franchise mode being realistic (FA signings, sensical trades, proper players on waivers, draft, etc.). I use Cycloniac's rosters with JoshC's ratings matter sliders.

Let me know what ya'll think!

Unless you enjoy hitting 450 ft home runs with every player on your roster and multiple times a game. Then I’d go 24. If you even sniff a decent timing on 24 it’s an absolute crushed no doubt HR. No doubt HR cam plays about 90% of the time on a HR. On 23 it’s more like 20%.

23 feels like baseball to me with ebbs and flows, hit variety, unpredictability. 24 feels like a HR derby. I’ve played 1.25 seasons on 23 so far (~210 games) with the O’s. I’m hitting .263 and slugging .450 on average for both seasons. While scoring 4.9 runs per game with 1.2 home runs per game. When I put down 24, about 50 games into my season with the O’s, I was hitting .293 without even trying. I was also slugging .510 as a team, while averaging over 2 home runs and almost 6 runs per game. The even craziest thing about those stats, I wasn’t even leading the league in any of those categories, sims stats were out of control in my franchise.

Lastly, pitching is much smoother on 23, which some people may not care about. On 24 the ball marker is almost “sticky”, doesn’t move as smooth and for some reason there’s a delay when trying to start to move it.

‘24 is the most fun I’ve had playing the show in quite some time. The gameplay, graphics/lighting, and audio/commentary is improved over ‘23 IMO. ‘24 has restored my faith that this franchise is continuing in the right direction and makes me excited for next years version.

For PS4, '23 with JoshC1977 sliders, seemed to work good for me - lower scoring games. My hope was that '24 for PS5 would yield the same results, but I hate '3 True Outcome' players and games. And definitely do not want softball type scores EVERY game.

I utilize SB's/bunts/hit and run and great defense BUT that should not work for every team, like in real life.

I appreciate everyone's feedback and I will keep thinking it over until I purchase the PS5.
