Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread

Anyone feel like the CPU has gotten ridiculously good at hitting foul balls? I'm using standard sliders on HOF. Batters regularly get 8-9 pitches an at bat. If I quick manage and enter a game, my pitchers get like 8-9 pitches an inning but if I play, it's per at bat.

Couple of other things that annoy the crap out of me in this years game

    - Check swings. My rate seems to be 3/4 are considered strikes on check swings. Cpu is maybe 1/3. I wouldn't have a problem if the check swing animations were more varied. They're often checking on the same types of pitches with the same animations and so it looks the same as when I get a strike called. Minor gripe but kills some realism.

    - Speaking of realism, infielders can often make harder throws when their momentum is going in the complete opposite direction of the play or from a direct stop than they can when making a clean throw that they step into. It's minor but it kills the realism on some plays. They shouldn't be able to do this.

    - Mean reversion on simming. I hate when I'm on a nice win streak in franchise and playing great baseball and then I sim like games and get absolutely blown out. I know, it's baseball and this happens but it's like I can't trust the CPU to make any decent decisions on my behalf.. Even trusting them to start a decent lineup is hard.

Starting to get really frustrated with 24. It has some really redeeming qualities but the game play is just stale to me. Hit variety is way down compared to last year, especially on the USER side. Seems like everything I hit is either a HR or a single. Hitting was literally perfect for me last year. Last year if felt like my players ratings really mattered. If I got a perfect timing with Gunnar Henderson, it’s probably a HR but not always. Get one with Adam Frazier and it’s still a pop up half the time, which I love. This year feels like anything I time up well, with any player, is an automatic HR. Then on top of that you barely see any swing and miss from the USER this year unless your timing is really bad or the pitch is in the dirt. Last year, on default HOF, the USER could swing and miss on pitches right down the middle even with good timing. Which I really liked because it leads to more strikeouts for the USER and you see it happen in real baseball all the time.

Then we get to the CPU. At times it’s really fun to pitch them but then at times they make me want to throw my PS5 out of my window lol. I can’t explain the amount of times I got the CPU in a 3-2 count only for them to foul off 10 pitches in a row. Knowing the only way the at bat is going to end is either with a walk or a ball being absolutely crushed. This alone has ruined the fun for me. This happens multiple times every game to me and it’s really unfortunate.

One final thing I’ve noticed on both sides of the ball is outfielders getting to everything. Last year on default sliders way more balls fell in for base hits, plus on top of that way more balls were just out of the reach of outfielders gloves where you never really knew if it was going to be caught. Seems like this year if an outfielder is anywhere near a ball he is going to track it down.

      Going back to MLBTS23
Agree 100% with pitching. I'm tired of these 8 foul balls in a row at bats with people who are absolute scrubs.

Unfortunately this is where I'm at as well...for reference I'm using BryanM's HOF V3 sliders (which are very good I might add) and have been slowly getting back into the game, playing a variety of Play Now games as well as conquest.

The constant throughout all the games I have played, is the CPU's ability to get these long drawn out at bats due to the crazy amount of fouls they are able to reach.

It does not only happen on HOF, but also in conquest where I'll play Veteran as well as All-Star level, so it happens at all different levels with adjusted sliders as well as default sliders (conquest mode)

If it was something that happened "once in a great blue moon" I could tolerate it better, but when it basically happens 2-3 times a game, then that to me is an issue.

I don't need to see various Youtube videos of it happening at the MLB level either, that does NOT dismiss this issue happening not just once but at various times throughout a game.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

Did they change anything with latest patch? Played my first 2 ganes with it and the Pirates scored 21 runs on 35 hits against me on HOF in my Twins franchise (40-20). Small sample size, but it felt very different.

The problem too seems to be the CPU being paired with an extremely good eye, in general. So they're fouling off 8-10 pitches at the corner but also not swinging at pitches that are 1/2 inch off the plate.. thus a lot of these counts end up walks or hits because any minor mistake from a human control stand point will be amplified.

June 14th and it’s 46 degrees and there’s people in parkas in the stands. Bonus points for the game being sold out on a Wednesday to see a 33-33 team. Smh.

I don’t actually care about any of this.

Just change it to 46° C and you’ll have an equivalent 115°F! Then you can pretend the parkas are radiation suits.

If it’s in the game… oops. Wrong company.

Just curious… 46° in Detroit? And they need parkas? Fans need to toughen up.

From what I see, Detroit's normal June low is 59 degrees. June 11 1972 the temperature was 36 degrees. Having said that, temperature in MLBTS should be user adjustable, like it is with cloud cover.

Played an exhibition night game at old Texas Stadium. Set date to August. Several of my players were visibly sweating. Nice realistic visual.

That is why they abandoned a great stadium for a new one. A lot of players don’t want to do Texas in June, July, August and September.
It was a gut check going to the games to watch and the very first Arlington stadium was even worse……absolutely no shade.

I just went to a Guardians game the other day, and it was sunny and like 95 degrees, which only happens a handful of times here in Cleveland. I kept thinking about places like Texas that had an outdoor stadium like man, I don't know how people kept going there in that heat.

With the patch fixing trades this game is close enough to perfect for me.

Glad I hung in there and playing with the mindset that I’ll skip playing’25

They are really missing some type of news feed in franchise mode.. the ticker in game is great but the menu feels like the universe is empty did they say they were going to update the mode via patch this year ?

Still a bit miffed as to why all times are all designated “EST” in this game. Is there no one working at SDS who knows what EST stands for?

99.5% of the season takes place during Daylight time. Standard time (the “S” in “EST”) runs from the first Sunday in November until the second Sunday in March.

Yes I know it’s a petty, pedantic gripe, so spare me. Just pointing out a fact. They have it wrong and it’s been wrong for years.
