Impressions from someone who hasn't bought the game since I think 2020 and only dabbled in 2 or 3 games a year ago.
Thin black font on a bright white background makes it so you really have to concentrate to see a lot of the writing outside of the main gameplay. I mentioned all the reasons why in the "MLB The Show 24's Bright White Menus Causing Some Discomfort" thread, but this game legitimately has the worst menu system in video game history. I don't understand how this was shipped like this.
Despite not playing in a few years (minus maybe an hour or 2 a year ago), the controls were easy to pickup. The Show still plays a great game of baseball, just like I remember. I'm still trying to find the right sliders for me (pitching is easy, hitting is hard), but I am definitely enjoying the on field play.
Animations also look good. I've seen some pretty ridiculous web gems pulled against me.
Presentation is a bit disappointing, which probably has more to do with my expectations than the actual product. The statcasts and overall theme of what they seem to be going for are all positives. Something just seems to be missing. The commentary crew are fine enough, just underwhelming. I always remembered really enjoying the color commentary in The Show, and I'm just not getting that right now. It's fine enough, and it's still about 80 paces ahead of where Madden is right now, but I just had higher expectations based on my memory.
Franchise...I'm not surprised by what I've seen, which is not a good thing. Franchise seems mostly untouched from where I left the series 3 or 4 years ago, and the reason that I stopped buying it was because it had been left mostly untouched for a while even back then.
Overall it plays a solid game of baseball with some nice touches in a few areas to get you locked into that 9 inning game. The UI is a total black mark, and franchise should just be called franchise-lite.
