Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Here's an example of how the custom game entry feature can work if you allow it to breathe. I'm shown this spot in the game from the franchise menu and jump in.
It's a "low" importance situation, but since it meets the threshold I have set (somewhere between low and medium), I get the prompt for it. Here's how it played out.
This became quite a bit more than it started as despite my only scoring one run. That red text means "critical situation" - in other words my sac fly gave this a higher importance from that point on. As I played it out I came up a bit short unfortunately, but that was a lot of fun in a short time.
My point with the importance stuff and "letting it breathe" is that the game can flag some seemingly pretty important situations as low. I might not have seen an opportunity to tie the game if I had the threshold way up. At the same time, I think low probably is the right importance because at the time I could ONLY tie the game, not win it. If the winning run was at the plate initially, I think the importance is higher.
It's a very customizable feature, one that can allow you to have quite a bit of meaningful gameplay in every game, if you want it to.Comment

Pretty cool way to play.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
I played a lot with this feature tonight and it’s growing on me. Let say you meet a criteria in 5th inning. Let say it was base loaded for your at bat. What I love from this feature is as soon as this 5th inning is done, you have the option to keep playing or return to Simulation mode. Once in sim mode again, you may encounter one or more situation meeting your criteria, play that half inning and have that option again to keep playing or simming.
Pretty cool way to play.
Since many early game (but still meaningful) situations flag as low, I often get dropped into those innings with runners on base. When those situations come up in close late game, the importance is much higher.
I will say that going down too far towards base "Low" setting will put you in a lot of one-run situations both batting and pitching - which is to say that you'll be playing a whole lot of the early game unless HR's are being hit in the sims. The situations I'm seeing with the setting I showed above have been quite varied.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Bottom of the 3rd in my first game, I’ve already heard LET’S GO TIGERS for five minutes straight. I know I’m not the first to mention it either. This is complete trash. It’s gotta be bug right? No WAY they let that through on purpose.
Not seeing any evidence of improved lighting.
Default roster is a bit trash. Yes the 40-man + another 20 or so important players are here, but roster still looks to be filled out with a bunch of garbage. At least 10 players I’d consider significant missing from my roster, I’d presume most other clubs are the same way. Tried to fill out some guys on the invitee roster, thinking they might be in the FA pool. No. Ofc they’re not.
Otherwise good. Not mad or anything, just a little disappointed. That’s an egregious audio error, the chanting. I’m a bit pissed about that tbh. The rest is to be expected, I guess. Very close to just sticking with this version for the next couple years. They don’t care about us.
That’s it. That’s my first impression.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

Wait till you go play the Yankees and have a heart attack hearing that siren before a strikeout! The volume is insane on the effect, just makes you wonder how that was acceptable much like the endless chantingComment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
The Yankees siren is that loud in real life so SDS is pretty accurate with at least that part. Of course you can turn the volume down of the sounds.Comment

The defense, and the fluidity that creates the poetry in motion, is an absolute thing of beauty.

That's exactly what I'm getting out of this with the setting in between Low and Medium. In fact, this is what I'm using right now:

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Three games in on exhibition. My thoughts:
-Hit variety is really great. But, it was also great right at release last year, and then a patch hit and the variation on hits went right back to prior years. So far I've hit a few dribblers up the middle, had a chopper that went above the first basemen and they tried to jump up to get it, hit an off the wall shot that then sneaked by the defender. Really great stuff. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THE HITTING MECHANICS!
-Pitch speed is much improved. Last year I could never find that sweet spot on hitting because Veteran had way too many gift pitches, even adjusting the sliders all over the place, and All-Star I could never quite get a feel for. On veteran hitting, I am seeing a lot of great variety in pitches. In one exhibition game, I drew six walks. Never done that before. Please, do not change this either.
-Graphics....I mean, they're OK? Not much to add. Busch has the same issues its had since ballpark village became a thing. Other stadiums, the outside has a great look, Busch, it still looks like early PS3 level textures. For the love of God, please move on from last gen so this cross-gen stuff can stop and we can get a jump ala 2008 The Show.
-Animations look great. Lots of variety I'm already seeing that I didn't see last year.
-Jordan Walker's batting animation is perfect. That little lean back before his cut, I couldn't ask for that to be any better. But, his face, why does he have the same face as last year?
-Can't really speak much on the lighting. Looks about the same to me. Again, we need a full next gen version.
Overall, I can't say I can justify $70 if you have last years version, or even 2022. Pretty sure this is my last year on buying if its cross-gen next year. I really sat on the fence this year, and while I don't regret my decision, this year was the first year I did a buy with some hesitation.Comment

It’s loud in real life, but this is too much in the game. And as far as I can tell you can’t lower the volume of stadium sounds

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
I'm having a blast so far, starting on legend with DD has been quite challenging and realistic. I played almost 2 full seasons last year, so this year I'm thinking about playing M2O or maybe a full season only playing the first game of each series so I can see my drafted prospects develop.
It's a tough choice though, as I love the full game presentation. I still get that slight pause on foul balls to the left of the hitter at times but overall it's a very smooth and enhanced visual game vs 23. It looks incredible on my Samsung S95b OLED TV.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
I haven't played since 21 and one of the 1st things I noticed is they still haven't fixed the issue with the 1st baseman's arm clipping through the base runners body on pick-off attempts smh. I was really hoping this would be fixed by now because it kills immersion. I've also noticed a few other clipping issues with the pitchers hand going through his glove on certain pitch animations, player walked completely through another players body after a play, the ball boy walks through players bodies, etc.
Other than that, I really like the game. Presentation is top notch, but what happened to the sideline reporter? Why was this removed? I'm really digging the art style from the transitional wipes, letter fonts, etc. I was expecting the white screen to bother me after reading all the complaints, but it wasn't as bad as made out to be in my opinion. Replays are excellent this year. Graphically the game looks good, however not the jump I was expecting coming from 21 to 24. There are still stadium jaggies & aliasing issues. There are also some occasional framerate dips (PS5).
The issue with the lighting flickering right before the pitcher starts his wind-up is still there (surprised this hasn't been fixed yet now that we're years into Next Gen). Hair physics are long overdue & definitely add to the immersion. I also really like the added player emotion. I'm not a diehard baseball fan, but i do enjoy it. Overall I can see myself playing 24 but I really wish they would fix the clipping issues. Add Collision Detection & bring back the LOW cam for fielding!Last edited by JKSportsGamer1984; 03-21-2024, 09:56 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Improved solid gameplay in this year's edition. Graphically, the visuals are stunning and the Drone Cam is an awesome visual. Pitch counts and strikeout, walks an hit are more realistic. Last year i would adjust sliders to get the desired difficulty - this year I selected all star hitting and legend pitching and all is well. Love the game so far. Thank you Sony for improving an already great baseball-big improvements all around. And Burn Baby Burn is in this year's game.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
The game is outrageously fun.
I’m a quick counts player and last year with the -1 removed I needed a lot of slider tinkering in order to get pitchers to stay in games even when they were throwing gems. This year even on default sliders I’ve had several pitchers go into the 7th inning ..,
What’s cool is when I’m getting dominated the CPU AI will ride the pitcher a little longer even if his stamina dips into the yellow and even the red. I was getting 2 hit by Cease and he had 10 K through 7 innings and CPU left him in even though he was in red stamina (just over 100 pitches). Then he gave up a solo shot and was removed immediately. Last year the first new inning (6th) where he dipped into yellow fatigue he would have been removed so I’m liking this change, situationally. I may still adjust some sliders,
The UI is not great, but for me it’s not as game breaking bad or jarring as others seem to indicate
The graphics are nice and especially so updated faces on the created draft prospects. I sim until 2040 to play with an almost entirely fictional league in my franchise so it’s awesome to see improved faces.Comment
