MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
My two biggest issues right now:
* the white UI - my game room/area is fairly dark and between the UI background and the font/writing , it’s tough to view at times.
* but even bigger than that, finding a connection with my new franchise. I find myself trying to decide how to make moves to basically get the team I’d built in ‘23. And doing so is only exacerbating my feelings of “been there, done that”
The quality of ‘24 along with the few franchise updates are what are keeping me plugging along in hopes that I find that connection.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Getting rather used to the new menu colour, even if I prefer it darker it’s useable and manageable. But whoever decided to use a un-readable font to show the W-L record during the opening to games during the broadcasts is a menace to society and possibly unhinged. Who saw this and said “Yep, that’s the font we need to use”
Loving the game so far, but that one really baffles me. Even an elementary school student could see that it’s a bad choice. I know it’s minor, but it just truly befuddles me how those things even get through conception, let alone executionComment

On Game Pass Series X this year as I was enjoying ‘23 too much and I didn’t really see anything in the streams that moved the needle. I appreciate your feedback on the game as it strikes me we have similar play styles and you usually post in a balanced and clinical fashion. So when you say this, it resonates with me. And, if the scheduled games times are in fact messed up in ‘24 along the lines of what happened in ‘21 I won’t even bother on Game Pass. I guess we’ll see at midnight EDT.

That’s your mistake right there. If you’re familiar with poker, that’s the equivalent of being on tilt, trying to get your stack back to where it was. Gotta just wipe the slate clean. It’ll come.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

I always choose different teams every year, and I never play with my favorite team (Astros) to help not have these feelingsComment

I’m only half way through my 23 season and honestly thinking of going back to 23. The “been there done that” feeling is real, as the entire game for me feels this way. It’s honestly the most disappointing show I’ve played when jumping from one year to the next.
I actually thought other than the strikeout issue 23 was a bigger jump from 22. Feels like the mailed it in this year IMOComment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Started over in '21, started over in '22, started over in '23, I think I truly may have hit the wall of tearing down and starting again, no matter how good the improvements.
If I can't find that connection to my franchise, all the improvements fail to matter.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

50+ games played with between Spring Training and the regular season and it hasn't come yet.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
I had gotten myself really excited for this game but that day game bug has all but killed it for me. I don’t know why that’s such a big deal for me but it just destroys my franchise. I didn’t play 21 much because of it. If they can’t fix it this time around, which I don’t look for them too, then this one will be shelved fairly early as well.
Honestly you’re not missing much. I regret the purchase to be honestComment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
The player graphics look so much more realistic with the new lighting and eye shaders this year. See the comparison between 23 and 24 below.

Here, I can't help but feel Bryce Harper genuinely looks worse in 24 than he did in 23. His new face scan looks like it might actually be using the one he had in 22. (EDIT: just compared the models again, and it definitely looks like the 24 model is the same as 23, it's just the textures have been changed, making it look more like the pre-23 version. The only thing I'm sure is from the the older face scan is the longer hair being from 20. It's almost identical from the strands and overall shape, just keep in mind for the 24 screenshot that the hair physics may have moved it ever so slightly from the 20 one). I unfortunately don't have the PS5 version of 22 installed, but I do have the PS4 version. With that in mind, the quality of the screenshot might be a little worse. Here is the comparison.

And here he is from 22.

Plenty of new face scans around the league, though for some reason, some teams just lack any new scans. For this list of teams, I'm not counting players that were acquired since Spring Training 2023 as they got their face scans done before their newest team acquiring them (i.e. Vaughn Grissom has a new face scan, but he was a Brave then, so I won't count it as a new Red Sox face scan).
Those teams are: Red Sox, Rays, White Sox, Angels, Cardinals, and Giants. I'm sure that that these teams did get face scans done last spring training, as there's gotta be at least a few players out of a 40-man roster willing to go in to get it done. That'd be too much of a coincidence to happen, so I'm willing to bet SDS just didn't get to put them in the game. Hopefully, like the Diamondbacks last year, we get the face scans via game update.
There are also some teams that only got a couple of face scans done (like James Outman being the lone Dodger to get a face scan), so I'd write that off as most other players from that team not going in to get their face scanned during spring training last year. I'm just genuinely surprised that it looks like the A's might have gotten the most face scans this year. Yeah, most of the team were rookies last year and only had CAPs in 23, but it's still shocking lol.
Overall, this year's presentation and graphics have rightfully took a step forward. Here's to hoping next year, we drop last gen and the visuals take a big leap forward and really taking advantage of current gen specsLast edited by laguna_bob; 03-18-2024, 05:34 PM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 24 Impressions Thread
Specific only to my TV/monitor, Sony X900h 85 inch, but I turned on the VRR that I've had off for the longest because auto-dimming isn't supported in this mode. The game really is very smooth and fluid. Also, I've come to grips with the pitch comm and the on-screen display, so I'll be using that going forward. Probably placebo but I seem to get better results from my pitchers by not only going with what the catcher calls but also the location.

I've only played a few games so far but it feels like the ball is coming off the bat with more variety of trajectories. I used to never be able to get a ball over the SS or second baseman's head on a line drive but I've already had a fewComment
