Cardinals take series from Reds in Cincinnati to close out August

The Cardinals (59-79) took 2 games of a 3 game series against the Reds in Cincinnati over the weekend to conclude the month of August. The Cardinals remain 15 games back of the Cubs in the division and are now 13 games out of the wildcard.

The Cardinals played one of their best series in Cincinnati over the weekend. Although they didn't earn the sweep, the Cardinals were competitive in all 3 games and lost because the Reds made more plays, offensively and defensively than the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. A robbed homerun and a diving catch that prevented a bases clearing 3 run double at least is what prevailed the Reds Saturday afternoon.

Friday and Sunday it was the Cards who made the plays.

The Cardinals will return home to start the month of September with a 3 game series against the A's.

Cardinals sweep A's to begin September

The Cardinals (62-79) swept the A's in a 3 game series in St.Louis to begin the month of September. The Cardinals are still 15 games out of first and now 12 games out of the wildcard.

It took nearly the entire season but the Cardinals are clicking here of late as they have now won 3 straight series. The offense was on point this series scoring 24 runs hitting 8 homeruns with 7 doubles over the 3 games. Pitching was pretty good too as they only allowed 9 runs in the series, 6 of those on Tuesday.

The Cardinals will remain home as they welcome the Giants to town for a 3 game weekend series after an off day on Thursday.

Cardinals success continues as they take series from Giants

The Cardinals (64-80) continue their success as they take 2 of 3 from the Giants over the weekend in St.Louis. The Cardinals are now 16 games behind the Cubs as they have won 7 straight. The Cardinals are still 12 games back in the wildcard.

The Cardinals are finally playing consistently good baseball albeit at the end of the season. Starting pitching is getting to 5,6 innings consistently, the bullpen for the most part is keeping things from getting out of hand, and hitters are having better plate appearances and getting timely hits.

Not sure how long this will last, but at the moment the Cardinals are playing the role of spoiler quite well.

Next up is a trip to Seattle for a 3 game series with the AL West leading Mariners.

Cardinals take series from Mariners in Seattle

The Cardinals (66-81) took the 3 game series with the AL West leading Mariners in Seattle. The Cardinals are still 16 games back of the Cubs and 11.5 back of the wildcard.

The Cardinals waited until the final month of the season to play consistent baseball. The Cardinals offense was electric but unfortunately in the series finale the pitching staff couldn't contain the M's offense. The Cardinals hit a dozen homerun this series as all 3 games were played with a closed roof.

Wednesday's finale was more of a homerun derby as the two teams combined to hit 10 homeruns in this game as the M's won an absolute slugfest with a 14-10 final score.

The Cardinals are off again on Thursday as they head to Milwaukee for a 3 game weekend series with the Brewers who are battling for a wildcard spot and have an outside chance at the division.

PSA: sorry for the multiple posts as my internet was messed up at the house over the weekend so I am playing catchup at the office.

Thomas to AAA, Walker's cooling down a bit!

            Frank Thomas - 6’5 - 240 - 1B
            Team: Louisville Bats (Cincinnati Reds)
            21 years old - AAA - 65 overall
            Top 100 Prospects: 2nd / MLB ETA: 2025

            Last Series: 4G / 3 for 15 / 6 SO / 1 RBI
            2025 Stats: 4G / .200 BA / .250 OBP / .200 SLG / .450 OPS / 6 SO / 1 RBI

Performance: After one game against the Biscuits, Thomas received a call from his manager saying it was his last game with the Lookouts. Thomas was sent to AAA, with the Louisville Bats. Joy was short-lived as the young 1B had his struggles starting 4 games at the new level. “That’s another ballgame to be honest. Pitching is something I’ll have to get in quickly, I can’t have 6 strikeouts every 4 games!” said Thomas

Team: In this anticipated series between two good AAA teams, the Bats took 4 out of 6 against the Redbirds. The offense was solid with 35 runs while giving up 19. The Bats are now 9 games over .500 and will face the Omaha Storm Chasers at home in the next six games.

            Bats: 21W – 12L – 1.0 GB – 2nd in International League West
            Next: vs Omaha Storm Chasers (16W – 17L, 6.0 GB – 5th in ILW)

            **********
            Larry Walker - 6’3 - 235 - RF
Team: Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies)
            18 years old - AA - 61 overall
            Top 100 Prospects: 2nd / MLB ETA: 2026

            Last Series: 6G / 6 for 23 / 1 HR / 1 RBI
            2025 Stats: 27G / .355 BA / .391 OBP / .570 SLG / .961 OPS / 5 HR / 19 RBI

Performance: The series start was fine, but last two games we’re tough. Walker went 0 for 8 to end this one, and he wasn’t looking for excuses. “Bad swings, bad timing, weak contact, name it. Everything that I didn’t do so far this season; I did in these last two games. I’ll have to straighten up, quickly.” analyzed the Yard Goats RF.

Team: Finally, a series win for the Goats, as they took 4 out of 6. After being swept by the Patriots, they bounced back with solid pitching against the Baysox. “We’ll build on that for the next series. We didn’t play good baseball so far, but it was better in that last series. Hope we have finally got under our legs.” said team manager.

            Yard Goats: 12W – 15L – 7.0 GB – 5th in Eastern League Northeast
            Next: at New Hampshire Fisher Cats (13W – 14L - 6.0 GB – 5th in ELN)

            **********
            Due up:
Ozzie Smith (SS) – AA (MIL)
Kirby Puckett (CF) - AA (STL)

Hey Franchise fam - I really appreciate reading everyones experiences. Keeps me intrigued with franchises of all sorts - all of you, Keep doing your thing!

Every year we come to the point of release day and I tell myself "I want to be more involved with the franchise community and spread my experiences with everyone." (I love watching guys on youtube document their franchises and its always been an idea of trying to do that. I just know its not possible with my schedule.)

But, I start a Franchise or two and make a couple of posts on here and then then I stop. I know its a me thing... I either burn myself out of the franchise or get bored of what I got going and want to try something else in franchise. Also takes into the fact, that having a family with two little kids, allows me to play maybe 2 or 3 hours a few nights a week. So as much as I'd love to add to the franchise chat, I know my time is better spent actually playing when I can than trying to recap or trying to post on here.

I feel like I have the mindset of a dog *OH SQUIRREL* when it comes these games and everyones different. But does anyone else get a funk of getting bored or burnt out of playing the same thing over and over?

I know alot of people on here play all or most games in a season (I applaud you, thats incredible) but what else do people do to keep the season flowing at a good pace but play enough to feel ingrained with players/team/etc.? Is there a specific "schedule" you stick with? Play 1 game per series? 1 game per week?

TLDR; I get bored trying to slow play a franchise, what suggestions do you have to help the pace of the season going at a good clip, but still being involved in some games.

I think you need a "challenge". Something that's not just playing games, but something new that you're attempting, that you're building towards.

You may be very right - I'm typically doing franchise as "rebuilds" - Maybe I need to go for a more "middle of the road" team..? Where we can be competitive but need to be able to acquire more talent at the draft, deadline or Offseason.. I'm going to really take some time to see what team peaks my interest.

Yeah, could be you just need something fresh and challenging. I've done fantasy drafts too, those could be fun. Draft a team and try to win it all, or draft a prospect heavy team and watch them grow. Or take a team and relocate to another city and basically start from scratch with no good players. There are some fun options.

No we are officially out of playoff contention.

Our young arms in the rotation are pitching better, especially Michael McGreevy and Matthew Liberatore. Our bullpen has been better of late with Ryan Fernandez getting higher leverage spots over Phil Maton.

I think we have incredible talent and youth within the organization and a proper offseason could really help this team be playoff contenders next year. Pitching will be primary focus this winter.

35-63, pretty much out of it in my Rockies franchise. A few things I’ve really enjoyed:

                          1) Custom game entry — I can get through a month in one sitting and still pitch/hit with key players. This is especially nice in a rebuild franchise.
                          2) The entire draft process. The 25 class in general was really weak and it was cool trying to balance talent/bonus pool. I ended up going with a power hitting catcher at #4 who had a relatively good bonus demand. The number one guy internally was demanding $11mil and wasn’t a guarantee to sign so I passed. His potential didn’t seem to match the demand either and it was cool to see him fall to 16th in the draft. Got all my guys signed and hopefully their overall/potential pays off when I get the full report on Aug 1.

Overall…this is a challenging rebuild and I’m having fun overall. There’s no one I currently want to extend in the summer window that likely won’t be cheaper in arbitration so that’s another fun cat/mouse game. Zac Veen has been OK at the major league level and will hopefully be a slightly above replacement bat and I’m excited to see what Dollander can do. He still has some attribute level work to do in AAA so he’s a September call up if that.

Austin Gomber and Tyler Kinley are having great years and will likely be flipped for some minor league depth if possible.

Playing The Show ... what else am I supposed to do , besides work [emoji23]

Anyways... Altuve was put on the trade block by the Stros, so I decided to see what they wanted for him. Altuve is currently under contract for another 5 years , $25 mil avg per season. He is an A potential with a 91 overall rating
Im playing as the Cardinals in my Franchise.
                                The Stros want Burleson (c rated, 75 overall , $800k) Gorman(B rated , 76 overall , $800k , and Pages ( c rated, 74 overall , $800k) for him

The Stros would take on $2.4 Mil and my Cards would take on the $25 Mil

                                Yay or Nay ? [emoji23]
