    1) Custom game entry — I can get through a month in one sitting and still pitch/hit with key players. This is especially nice in a rebuild franchise.
    2) The entire draft process. The 25 class in general was really weak and it was cool trying to balance talent/bonus pool. I ended up going with a power hitting catcher at #4 who had a relatively good bonus demand. The number one guy internally was demanding $11mil and wasn’t a guarantee to sign so I passed. His potential didn’t seem to match the demand either and it was cool to see him fall to 16th in the draft. Got all my guys signed and hopefully their overall/potential pays off when I get the full report on Aug 1.

Overall…this is a challenging rebuild and I’m having fun overall. There’s no one I currently want to extend in the summer window that likely won’t be cheaper in arbitration so that’s another fun cat/mouse game. Zac Veen has been OK at the major league level and will hopefully be a slightly above replacement bat and I’m excited to see what Dollander can do. He still has some attribute level work to do in AAA so he’s a September call up if that.

Austin Gomber and Tyler Kinley are having great years and will likely be flipped for some minor league depth if possible.

Andddddd of course the guy I passed on (along with 15 other teams) is a 79 OVR a 99 potential. Not sure I would’ve been able to sign him anyways but hopefully I win the lottery next year

      2027 Marlins Franchise

The Marlins are coming out swinging finishing the month of May with a 34-25 record 4.5 games back of the division leading Phillies and two games up in the wild card in second place. This start definitely wasn't expected but it's not surprising as the young guys are starting to pay off. Xavier Edwards leads the way with a .350 average while Joc Pederson leads the team with 18 Hrs. The starting rotation has been solid while the pen has been lock down with Vesia, Garcia, and Uribe.

Hopefully the Marlins can keep it going. One big injury to any of the key players could derail this season though.

Transactions: Optioned Max Meyer to Triple A and recalled Randy Dobnak
Claimed Brock Jones off waivers from the Rays.

        Cardinals swept in Milwaukee

The Cardinals (66-84) were swept in Milwaukee by the Brewers as the Cardinals couldn't play spoiler. The series loss is the first for the Cardinals in September. The Cardinals have been officially eliminated from the playoffs after this series.

This series was much like what we saw for most of the summer where if the bats were good then pitching was bad, if pitching was good the offense wouldn't produce. The Brewers won the first two games fairly easily as they beat up on Miles Mikolas and Michael McGreevy, although McGreevy really wasn't bad, he gave up a 3 run homerun and then proceeded to be let down by his defense in a 6 run 4th inning that blew things open. Matthew Liberatore pitched on Sunday and was good, but as we've seen many times over the season, the bullpen couldn't maintain and then Ryan Helsley blew the save and the Brewers won in extras.

The Cardinals return home to face the Reds as the Cardinals look to play spoiler again. The Cardinals have 4 series left and can play spoiler in all of them:

        vs Reds
        vs Brewers
        @ Giants
        @ Cubs

Sitting here trying to decide on which team to use. Guardians could be fun but they won't sign anyone and I try to stay relatively realistic with trades and free agency. But DeLauter and Bazzana would be fun. Thought a White Sox or Marlins rebuild but they too refuse to spend. Also contemplating St. Louis as I have never used them. Always saw them as CB's team lol. No need for a bunch of us updating on the same teams here.
Idk. I've flip flopped for like a week now while adjusting rosters and adding player names for commentary.

              2025 Minnesota Twins

Twins rally behind strong pitching to win series against the Braves

              Game 1: L 6-1
              Win: Jose Suarez (3-1) 7.1 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
              Loss: Simeon WoodsRichardson (1-2) 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

The Braves took the lead with a leadoff home run by Michael Harris II after he worked a seven pitch at bat. The Twins tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run from Ryan Jeffers, but the Braves countered in the bottom of the inning with a two run double from Ozzie Albies and another run scoring double from Harris. Atlanta broke it open in the seventh when Albies hit a two run home run off of Louie Varland, and the Twins never really stood a chance.

              Game 2: W 2-0
              Win: Pablo López (3-1) 6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
              Loss: Spencer Strider (2-1) 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K

What a great pitching matchup this was! Jose Miranda hit his first home run of the season to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead in the 4th, and Willi Castro singled in Byron Buxton in the fifth, and that was the only offense in the game. Pablo López could have pitched deeper into the game, but his pitch count was getting high and the Twins were comfortable turning to the back end of their bullpen to go the last three innings. The Braves did get a leadoff single from Alex Verdugo in the 9th but Acuña, Ozuna and Olson could do nothing against Griffin Jax.

              Game 3: W 5-2
              Win: Joe Ryan (4-1) 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
              Loss: Chris Sale (2-2) 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 7 K

The Twins continued their long ball threat, scoring their first two runs on solo home runs, by Christian Vazquez and Jose Miranda respectively. They would score two more runs in the sixth on a double from Carlos Correa and a single by Royce Lewis. The Braves scored twice in the seventh off of Eiberson Castellano, although only one run was earned as a runner reached base on Willi Castro’s second error of the game. Royce Lewis hit a 455 foot home run in the top of the ninth and Griffin Jax struck out the side in the 9th to preserve the win and earn Minnesota a fantastic and surprising series victory.

Minnesota continues to lead the AL Central with a record of 14-8, and will now have an off day before taking on the White Sox (11-11).

Ahh sorry about the elimination. Your off-season is going to be a series of questions. How do we create more consistent offense? Bullpen construction, etc. I’m curious to see your offseason especially with the new 5 year rule implemented for optioning guys out. Should be fun and nail biting at the same time.

Playing as the Pirates this year (first time I'm NOT using the Cardinals), my seasonal goal is to play .500 baseball.

This first season, it's starting to look like we might not get to .500.

Does anyone know if you can get fired in Year 1 for not meeting a seasonal goal? I meant to turn GM contracts off but forgot too because I've never really had to worry about getting fired.

That would be a total bummer if I don't get at least 3 seasons to make progress.

I think you'll be fine. I'm pretty sure that was my season goal with the Nationals and I ended up going 56-106 the first season.

Its going to be interesting. Need to determine which prospects we are willing to part with if we need to make moves to improve the club. As well as veterans we can move.

I like the youth, the potential talent, and the depth of our organization, but I don't think we have enough there to really be contenders and I don't want to wait another season for that young talent to get to postseason caliber level.

Braves slip to third in NL East after dropping two of three to Philadelphia

The Braves wrapped up their first homestead of the 2025 season in disappointing fashion, losing 8-3 to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies (8-4) took two of three in the series to jump over Atlanta (8-5) into second place in the NL East. The Mets lead the division at 9-3.

The Braves rate second-worst in MLB with a 5.01 team ERA. Spencer Strider (1-2, 8.22 ERA) and Spencer Schwellenbach (0-1, 7.20) have struggled out of the gate.

Atlanta leads the league in doubles and is near the top in runs scored, home runs and walks. But the Braves' 135 strikeouts is far and away the worst in baseball. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Austin Riley have both struggled with batting averages below the Mendoza line. Marcell Ozuna (six homers and 11 RBIs) and Matt Olson (three homes and 13 RBIs) have been the Braves best hitters in the early part of the season.

The Braves head out on the road again, starting in Tampa to face the Rays.

Tough June continues with 4th straight series loss

The Astros are continuing to slide in June. That slide hasn't been more evident until their game one loss to the Minnesota Twins, 22-5. The 22 runs tied their most surrendered runs in a single game with their matchup with he Cubs also in June, 1987.

Houston was able to break up their six game losing streak in game two with their 6-3 win.

Unfortunately, they also lost game three, 7-3 as their June woes continue and they fall further behind the West leading Rangers.

The Astros will now look to turn things around as they hit the road. Their first stop is in Sacramento to face the Athletics (27-46/5th AL West)

Cardinals can't play spoiler against Reds as they drop series

The Cardinals (67-86) couldn't play spoiler against the Reds as the Reds won 2 games of the 3 game series in St.Louis to begin the week. The Reds are right now the 3rd wildcard team.

The series started off well with Sonny Gray getting the ball on Monday night and managing his way thru 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with the biggest being a 3 run bomb by Elly de la Cruz with 2 outs in the 5th inning. Thankfully the bats were up to the challenge as the Cards put up 10 runs in the game, with Jordan Walker exploded for a 4 for 4 night with a homerun, double and 6 RBIs.

Tuesday Kumar Rocker got the ball but lasted an inning after Tyler Stephenson hit a liner back at the mound that his Rocker's bare hand and breaking it. The Cardinals would then toss essentially a bullpen game which wasn't good as the Reds teed off for 11 runs with 4 homeruns in route to an 11-2 win.

Wednesday it was Miles Mikolas and he struggled but gave his club 6 innings giving up 6 runs on 12 hits as the bats were dormant until late as the Cards fell 6-3. Alec Burleson and Willson Contreras would drive in the runs.

Next up is the final home series of the season as the Cardinals welcome the Brewers to town for a 3 game weekend series.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
