Cardinals drop 4th of July weekend series to Cubs in Wrigley

The Cardinals (39-52) dropped the holiday weekend series to the Cubs in Chicago. The Cardinals are 9 games behind the Brewers in division and 11 out of the wildcard.

The Cardinals returned to factory settings as the pitching staff couldn't get outs and the offense could get timely hits. Ryan Helsley blew the save in Game 1, the Cardinals won 3-1 on Saturday thanks to poor pitching (6 walks) and defense (4 errors) by the Cubs, and then lost 11-2 on Sunday.

With the draft and the All-Star break approaching in a week or so, the time off and focus on the future couldn't come fast enough.

The Cardinals will travel to Washington for a 3 game series with the Nationals before welcoming the Braves to town for a 3 game weekend series to close out the first half of the season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

      2025 Montreal Expos

Expos split opening weekend with Jays

Baseball is back in Montreal, and opening weekend saw a Canadian rivalry renewed.

Fans were treated to a shocking opening day win for the Expos, with lefty Jordan Montgomery putting up a vintage performance, shutting down the Jays bats. Montreal would run away with this one after they scored 3 unearned runs in the 4th inning, and cruised to a 5-1 victory.

The Expos would come back down to earth, dropping game 2, 3-1, and game 3, 5-4.

Wrapping up the weekend, the Expos pitching was solid again, holding the Jays bats at bay in a 3-1 win.

With the overall makeup of this roster, it will likely be a long season for this new franchise, but the pitching looked very solid this weekend.

Next up: Montreal hosts the 0-4 Texas Rangers.

          2025 Montreal Expos

Expos drop series opener against Texas, but take 2 out of 3

"Two out of three ain't bad".

The Texas Rangers came into the series after having been swept to open the year, but their struggling offense finally stepped up against the Expos, pumping out 4 homers in an 8-2 win.

Game 2 would see lefty Jordan Montgomery's second start of the year, and once again, he was fantastic, holding the Rangers to 2 runs, and earning a no-decision in a 3-2 extra inning win for Montreal.

The series wrapped up with a solid 8-4 win for the Expos, giving them their first series win in team history.

Next up: Montreal heads to the Rockies to take on Colorado.

              Expos offence explodes in Colorado!

The shocking start for Montreal continued on the weekend, as their first road trip started with a sweep of the Colorado Rockies.

Game 1 would see Montreal blow a 5-1 lead, but trailing 7-5 in the 9th, Expos SS Javier Baez, who hit just .184 in 2024, would hit a 2 run homer, his second of the game, to tie it, and set the Expos up for their 2nd extra inning win of the season, as they'd take it 8-7.

The Expos offense would continue to take advantage of the thin air in Colorado, taking game 2 8-4, before putting an exclamation mark on the sweep, with an 11-2 win in game 3.

Next up: The 8-3 Expos continue their West coast trip against the Angels in LA.

                  2025 Cleveland Guardians

Guardians continue their winning ways with a series win against the Royals

                  Game 1: L 6-5
                  Win: Chris Stratton (1-0) 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER
                  Loss: Jakob Junis (2-1) 3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 SO, 0 BB, 2 ER

Gavin Williams struggled in this start, giving up a three run home run to Salvador Perez in the first and giving up another run in the second. He would give up four runs on ten hits in total before leaving after five innings. The Guardians would claw back with home runs from Bo Naylor and Nolan Jones, and eventually tie the game in the sixth on a solo home run from Gabriel Arias; but Bobby Witt Jr. would untie the game with a two run home run in the seventh. Cleveland would get one back when Jhonkensy Noel drove in Nolan Jones, but could not get the tying run to cross and the Guards win streak ends at 8.

                  Game 2: W 8-0
                  Win: Ben Lively (2-0) 7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO
                  Loss: Kyle Wright (1-1) 2.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 4 SO

This game was over after the third inning, as Cleveland scored two in the second and six in the third; capped off by a three run home run from Steven Kwan. From there it was pitching and batting practice. Ben Lively had his best outing as a Guardian and Alec Marsh put in 5.2 strong innings for KC.

                  Game 3 W 6-3
                  Win: Luis Ortiz (2-0) 5.0 IP, 2 H, 3 SO, 3 BB, 1 ER
                  Loss: Cole Ragans (1-1) 4.0 IP, 8 H, 4 SO, 0 BB, 4 ER

Cole Ragans was not sharp in this start. He gave up two run home runs to Jose Ramirez and Brayan Rocchio in the first and second innings to put Kansas City in a 4-0 hole. Luis Ortiz was decent, which was enough to earn him the win this time, but the KC bats were cold. When they did heat up, it was too little too late. The Royals manufactured a run in the fifth, but Jose Ramirez answered with his second home run of the game. Jakob Junis would give up two more runs in the eighth, but Brayan Rocchio then hit HIS second home, allowing Emmanuel Clase to enter in the ninth and clinch his 6th save of the year.

The Guardians’ offense continues to be hot, allowing them to keep winning even when the pitching isn’t at the top of its game. Cleveland is now 11-4, which is not even the best record in baseball right now (the Yankees are 12-3). The Guardians will have an off day before opening a series in Baltimore (9-7)

I’m starting to get concerned about some of the numbers being put up. Jose Ramirez already has 10 home runs and 19 RBI. I’m going to keep things as they are for now but may have to tweak some settings to keep things realistic.

Washington Nationals (1-2) @ Toronto Blue Jays (1-3)
                    Blue Jays Struggle Again
                    Game 1: Nationals 2, Blue Jays 6
Jake Irvin and Bowden Francis took the mound to open the series. The Jays struck first with an RBI single from Anthony Santander. Washington responded in the 6th with back-to-back RBI hits from James Wood and Dylan Crews to briefly take the lead. But Toronto rallied in the 8th, pulling away for a 6-2 win. Tough blow for the Nats as both James Wood and Jacob Young exited early with injuries.

                    Game 2: Nationals 14, Blue Jays 4
Cade Cavalli faced off against Jose Berríos, who’s still searching for career win No. 100, and it won’t come from this one. Washington’s offense exploded with a 5-run first inning, batting around. James Wood returned from his injury scare to mash a 2-run homer, and Keibert Ruiz added 3 RBI. The Nationals racked up 21 hits and torched Toronto pitching en route to a 14-4 blowout. Rookie Roden filled in well at first for a resting Vlad Jr., but the Jays couldn't keep up.

                    Game 3: Nationals 7, Blue Jays 6
MacKenzie Gore and Kevin Gausman traded punches in a tight pitchers' duel through five. Then the offenses came alive. The game was tied 5-5 in the 6th before Dylan Crews crushed a go-ahead 2-run homer in the 7th. Toronto couldn't complete the comeback, and Washington took the game—and the series—7-6.

Next up: The Blue Jays hit the road for the first time this season, heading to Queens for a showdown with Kodai Senga and the Mets.

                      Cardinals take series from Nationals

The Cardinals (41-53) took 2 games of a 3 game series with the Nationals in St.Louis to begin the week. The Cardinals remain 10 games back, now of the Cubs in the Central and 11 games back in the wildcard.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series behind the hitting of Jordan Walker and the pitching staff. Walker recorded 7 hits in this series with 3 doubles and a homerun. He also drove in 8 runs. The pitching staff was solid as they yielded a combined 9 runs in the series with 6 of those coming in the final game of the series.

The Cardinals will now welcome the Braves to town for a 3 game weekend series to end the 1st half of the season.

Willson Contreras to the 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed catcher Willson Contreras on the 10 Day IL with bruised ribs. Contreras suffered the injury in the series finale after being hit by a pitch. Contreras has struggled this year hitting just below .210 and striking out in nearly a third of his at-bats.

The Cardinals have recalled Yohel Pozo from Memphis to fill the vacant spot.

Cardinals send Harrison Bader to the Rangers for Kumar Rocker

The Cardinals have started their sell this trade deadline by sending Harrison Bader and Riley O'Brien to the Rangers for RHP Kumar Rocker. The Cardinals acquired Bader earlier this year in a deal with the Twins, but with them being out of contention for the playoffs and having Michael Siani and Victor Scott II on the depth chart, the Cardinals felt that moving Bader was logical, plus it gives him a chance to play with a playoff contending team. Riley O'Brien was also included in the deal.

In exchange the Cardinals receive former 1st round Kumar Rocker who has not developed as many expected. Rocker pitched in 10 games at the major league level this year and posted an inflated 10+ ERA. He had just been sent to AAA when the Cardinals acquired him but has pitched in 3 games with a 6+ ERA and a WHIP over 1.50. The Cardinals are hopeful that a change of scenery and a stint at AA Springfield will help get Rocker back on track to becoming the pitcher everyone expected when drafted.

The Cardinals likely aren't done this trade season with Erick Fedde and Nick Anderson very likely to be dealt before the deadline.

Started 14-6 with the Halos and bumped difficulty up to HOF hitting and Legend Pitching on Classic. Since then I'm 2-4 and can tell the difference of a 65 overall pitcher and 80 overall on Legend. Got lit up by the Giants in a series and struggled hitting with 10 k's in 3 straight games. 16-10 right now

Started a Nationals chise the other day. I figured they would be a fun team with some promising talent, but not an huge budget to play with.

We have started the year 3-1, we took 2 of three from the Phillies and took the first game against the Jays.

I play on HOF hitting and Legend Pitching. I haven't gotten as far in my franchises the last couple years (I usually get 7+ seasons in) and I am hoping that I am more invested this year. Loving the new storylines feature and the presentation has definitely given some nice freshness to the mode.

Want to gauge opinions here. I like to be the GM of a team and just do everything I can to get them to win the WS. Last years game at the of the season I would offer arbitration to everyone so the "Offer contracts" for looking at free agents would go up to help me see who I can afford. It seems this year when you do this now it does not affect that stat, so if I have $50M to spend but offer out $35M in arb it still says I have $50M to spend. Last year it did not do this.

Anyone else notice this, maybe a fix or something I am missing or its a bug I dunno............

Thank you in advance for any replies!

                              The 2025 Seattle Mariners

The division series in this save are always the weirdest.

                              Series Recap: Astros
                              Game 1: L 3-7
                              Game 2: L 4-5
                              Game 3: W 10-3
                              Game 4: W 7-1

The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Donovan Solano: 9 hits, 3 HR, 5 RBI

Game 1 was rough. The Astros took a 1-0 lead with a Brendan Rogers home run, we answered with a Donovan Solano one who re-discovered his power this series.
But that lead didn't last long. The next 2 innings the Astros scored 3 runs twice, Brendan Rogers hit another home run. Yordan and Victor Caratini hit one each as well. Randy Arozarena hit a solo shot late to make it look at least a bit better.
Both team ended up with 8 hits in the game, only that the Astros nearly scored on them all.

Did I say game 1 was rough? Game 2 was a beating. The game started with a quick 1-2-3 inning for the Ms and then 4 runs by the Astros in the second half of the inning. The first 3 Astros recored a hit in a row, Paredes then brought them all home with a deck clearing double.
Solano hit another homer for us and Randy as well. But that was too little too late.
Luis Castillo didn't even last 3 innings, a very rare thing for our starters.

But then Kirby and Gilbert, two leading Cy Young candidates, took revenge.

In Game 3, Kirbys big game, it looked like a defensive battle for a long time. It was 2:0 until the 7th inning then we exploded for 4 each in the next two innings. Julio hit a 3 run homer, Robles brought 3 runs in, J.P. Crawford hit a 2-run homer. Very good numbers across the whole offense.
Kirby pitched 6 innings and only allowed 3 hits, which was huge against that lineup. Since we were up high we gave the ball to Trent Thornton, our garbage man, who gave up 3 runs in the last two innings to give the Astros some hope for game 4.

But there just is no hope with Logan Gilbert. 9 innings, 5 hits, 10 K in a 7-1 win, the only they scored was in the first inning.
From there it was a game for our stars from the second row. Solano with another home run, Tellez added to his impressive season total (8 in 31 games) and Polanco hit one as well. It was just constant attack mode with scores nearly every inning. Ronel Blanco had a very bad day and only lasted 3 innings, but the bullpen didn't have more luck.

Next we have 3 home games against the Nationals, which is a welcoming break after the long roadtrip. Ending it 7-3 is a huge success, which brings us to 1st place in the AL West, but just 1 game in front of the Rangers, the Astros are 2 behind now. I'm glad to not see those two in a bit though.

Following the game, the Tigers optioned reliever Brennan Hanifee, who pitched two scoreless innings tonight, to Triple A Toledo. This likely means that reliever Will Vest will be activated from the I.L. before tomorrow night's game. Vest was dealing with shoulder soreness.
