I agree with this but now that I have had time to look it over and think about it, the thing I might like the most is the challenge the NL West has. LA, SD and AZ are all good teams. Might be a struggle to finish 4th in that division. I like the grind.

Yeah the grind and the challenge is how I like to play also. Cool.

          The 2025 Seattle Mariners

The game jinxed it. Before the first game they talked about one of the hottest teams in MLB facing a team that's struggling. How could they do that to me?!

          Series Recap: Nationals
          Game 1: L 0-3
          Game 2: W 4-0
          Game 3: L 5-6

The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Jorge Polanco: 2 hits, 1 HR, 5 RBI

The 3 team race at the top of the division is so close that it's series like that you have to remember when you miss the playoffs by a game or two. Embarrassing stuff all around.

Game 1 started great: James Woods gets on base, a thing that happens frequently and wouldn't be that bad, Paul DeJong homers to bring both home, a thing that doesn't happen frequently and is very bad.
We managed 4 hits the whole game against Josiah Gray. That guys cutter was on fire the whole game, I just couldn't see that right.

Game 2 was better, but still very flawed. The Nationals actually had more hits then us, we just hit them a bit harder. Cal with a beautiful 2 run homer, Rowdy and Polanco each brought home another run.
The scoring started with a Cole Young bunt, then he stole 2nd and then was brought home by a Polanco single. Small ball at its best.
Paul DeJong had the highlight of the game though: He hit a ball at the outfield wall, that neither Arozarena or Julio could really field. He already had the triple, but he wanted more and went for the inside the park home run but the throw came in hot and he was tagged at the plate.

But Paul DeJong wasn't done being the most impactful player of the series.

Julio started the scoring in the first inning of game 3 after he was batted in by Esteury Ruiz. Then in the 3rd inning the Nats answered: 4 runs in all types possible ways. A triple that was bunted in, a wild pitch.
Then it was quiet until the 7th, but then got really loud. The Nats first added another run. Then it was our turn though:
          Ruiz: hit
          Solano: walk
          Tellez: walk
          Polanco: grand slam!

Tied game! We are back! Bring out the champa... Paul DeJong. After that huge come back he stepped up to the plate in the 9th and broke the heart of everyone in that stadium with a solo home run. We then continued our offensive struggle and couldn't get another hit in.

I thought after the two offensive explosions against the Astros that the offense would be back but 18 hits through 3 games against Shane Baz, Mitchell Parker and Josiah Gray is not a good sign.

Next we have another home series against the Twins, my first love basically. They are 4.5 games behind the Guardians in the Central at 29-27, so we should be favorite. But we were against the 16-39 Nationals as well, so...

Blue Jays take 3 of 4 in Boston.

              Jays 4 Red Sox 6
              Bichette 1/4 HR RBI

              Nance 0.2 2H 2ER 1BB (L)

              Game 2 - Win
              Jays 4 Red Sox 1
              Bichette - 3/5 RBI
              Springer - 3/4 RBI R BB
              Wagner - 1/3 2RBI 2B
              Berrios - 5.2 4H 1ER 1BB 5K (W)
              Hoffman - 1.0 2H 0ER 1K (S)

              Game 3 - Win
              Jays 7 Red Sox 6
              Gimenez - 1/4 RBI 2R BB 2B
              Guerrero Jr - 2/4 3RBI R BB 2B
              Springer - 1/5 2RBI
              Barger - 1/3 RBI
              Scherzer - 5.1 9H 3ER 5K
              Hoffman - 1.0 0H 0ER 2K (S)

              Game 4 - Win
              Jays 7 Red Sox 3
              Gimenez - 2/4 R SB
              Bichette - 1/5 RBI R
              Guerrero Jr - 1/5 RBI R 2B
              Varsho - 2/3 2RBI R 2BB 3B
              Wagner - 3/3 2RBI BB
              Bethancourt - 1/4 RBI
              Francis - 5.0 7H 1ER 4K (W)

This series could have looked a lot different. After taking game one, Boston had a 6-3 lead in the 9th inning of game three. Chapman came in to close it out. Allowed a hit, followed by three straight walks to make it 6-4. Guerrero Jr doubled off the monster to put the Jays up 7-6. They carried the momentum into game four to complete the series win.

Daulton Varsho was activated from the IL prior to game two. Addison Barger was called up as well. Nelson Velasquez and Nathan Lukes were sent to AAA. Velasquez had a hit and home run in his first two ABs as a Blue Jay, but hadn’t gotten a hit since then. Barger provided a pinch hit 3 run homer in game one in his first game since being called up.

However that was short lived as he strained his shoulder and was placed on the IL after game three. Velasquez was called back up to the big club and will return to the Jays bench.

The Jays now head to Baltimore for 3 games to finish up their road trip.

As much as I hate the Giants you're 100% accurate here. Plus the NL West is going to be a battle. Giants would be fun.

                  2026 Marlins

The Marlins finished up the month of July with a 43-68 record 27 games back of the division leading Phillies and are the worst team in the National League. The Marlins went full youth movement as they shipped out Braxton Garrett, Otto Lopez, Jonah Bride, Christian Vasquez, and Calvin Faucher paving the way for the young guys to get called up.

                  Hitting bright spots:
Xavier Edwards has been my best hitter this season with a .332 average 9 HR's and 45 RBI's he was my lone all star as well. AJ Vukovich has done a tremendous job as well since he was called up with a .269 average 9 HR's and 23 RBI's. He might be more of a platoon bat though since his splits are much better against lefties.

                  Pitching bright spots:
None, pitching has been abysmal as Chapman was designated for assignment. Everybody in the starting rotation has ERA's above a 4.50. The bullpen has been okay but might need to shake it up in the off-season.

                  Draft:
Perry Mitchell 18 RF 82 Overall
Todd Benton 20 RP 71 Overall
Doug Douglas 18 2B 58 Overall - swung and missed on that pick
                  William Cannon 18 C 67 Overall
Jamey Stoitsiadis 19 RP 70 Overall
Steven Scott 18 RP 62 Overall

                  Trades:
Sent Braxton Garrett and Otto Lopez to the Brewers for Abner Uribe and Brian Freitas. Freitas was their number one pick in the draft last year 18 year old SS B Potential.
Sent Calvin Faucher, Jonah Bride, and Christian Vasquez to the Rays for Chandler Simpson and Theo Gillen.

                  Transactions:
                  Designated Aroldis Chapman for assignment
Placed Randy Dobnak on waivers was a rule 5 pick
                  Recalled Will Warren
                  Designated Matt Mervis for assignment
                  Designated Josh Simpson for assignment
Promoted Spencer Jones and optioned Nathan Martorella
                  Called up Ronny Simon
Promoted Agustin Ramirez, Deyvison De Los Santos, and George Lombard

                  Injuries:
Jon Berti 60 day IL with a Fractured Foot
Javier Sanoja 60 day IL with a Broken Ankle

The Wizard of Oz and Puck still learning the ropes!

                      Ozzie Smith - 5’11 - 160 - SS
                      Team: Biloxi Shuckers (Milwaukee Brewers)
                      21 years old - AA - 59 overall
                      Top 100 Prospects: 33rd / MLB ETA: 2027

                      Last Series: 6G / 9 for 23 / 1 HR / 3 RBI
                      2025 Stats: 15G / .315 BA / .426 OBP / .426 SLG / .852 OPS / 3 2B / 10 BB

Performance: “I guess going 9 for 23 is pretty good, but having a 6 for 6 makes it look less pretty, doesn’t it?” asked Smith after the series. At least, Smith is getting on the bases and he’s playing strong baseball on the defensive side. “I’ll work on consistency, but so far so good overall I can say.” he added.

Team: The Shuckers put on a clinic to the Barons in that series. Winning 5 out of 6, they not only made it work offensively but they won close games, like the series opener, a 1-0 win we’re Aquino, Holub and Woessner only gave 6 hits to the home team. “We bounced back from a 4 losses streak with 5 wins in a row. Would have been nice to sweep the Barons but I’m still satisfied with our play!” said team manager.

                      Shuckers: 9W – 6L – 0.0 GB – 2nd in Southern League South
Next: vs Montgomery Biscuits (5W – 10L, 4th in SL South)

                      *****

                      Kirby Puckett - 5’8 - 184 - CF
Team: Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals)
                      21 years old - AA - 60 overall
                      Top 100 Prospects: 33rd / MLB ETA: 2027

                      Last Series: 6G / 5 for 21 / 1 HR / 3 RBI
                      2025 Stats: 15G / .393 BA / .493 OBP / .656 SLG / 1.149 OPS / 3 HR / 13 RBI

Performance: After his stellar last series, things cooled down a bit for Kirby Puckett. “I don’t expect to bat for .500 every series and tear the ball like I did in the 6 games previously.” said the CF. That time around, there was up and there was low with solid games while in others, it was kind of a 21 years-old guy still having only 15 games at AA level.

Team: The Travelers went in Springfield to play, not to act like tourist. Winning the first 3 games, they lost the next two before getting away from town with a 3-2 win in 12 innings. It was a close series, with 5 games decided by 1 run, while the sixth one was a 2 runs difference. The Cardinals will now travel to Wichita to take on struggling Wind Surge.

                      Cardinals: 8W – 7L – 1.0 GB – 3rd in Texas League North
Next: at Wichita Wind Surge (4W – 11L, 5th in TL North)

Cal Ripken Jr. (3B) - AA (WAS)
Rickey Henderson (LF) - AA (ATH)

We are back...this time with the Minnesota Twins

Against all better judgement, I've decided to go with the Twins this time. I was thinking of running with the Twins, Royals, Reds, or Pirates. I decided the Twins were the best combination for me.

The national media has already written the Twins off as contenders even before Spring Training began. MLB experts predict them to finish 2nd in the AL Central with a record of 81-81, which will probably not be enough to win a Wild Card spot. They were in the mix in 2024 before an epic collapse that saw a team completely disheartened by the time September ended. How will their chemistry be on Opening Day? How strong can their bullpen be? Is their young talent ready to step up? Can they stay healthy? These are just some of the questions that will be answered over the next six months.

Here is the Twins depth chart for opening day:

                          2025 Minnesota Twins

Twins take two of three from the Cardinals to open the season

                          Game 1: W 4-1
                          Win: Pablo López (1-0) 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 SO, 4 BB, 1 ER
                          Loss: Sonny Gray (0-1) 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO

Sonny Gray dominated the Twins early on, but started faltering in the fifth and was eventually pulled. The Twins would score three of their four runs off of the Cardinals bullpen, with the big hit being a two run double from Matt Wallner in the sixth. The Cardinals only offense came from a solo home run by Nolan Arenado. Pablo López struggled, but was good enough to earn the win.

                          Game 2: W 5-1
                          Win: Joe Ryan (1-0) 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO
                          Loss: Erick Fedde (0-1) 4.0 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO

Neither team was able to get a run across until the middle innings, when Trevor Larnach hit a three run double. The Cardinals once again got one run from Nolan Arenado, this time via a double. Cardinals fans were treated to the debut of their top prospect, Tink Hence, who pitched 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out four. The Twins also debuted a pitcher, their number 7 prospect Eiberson Castellano, a Rule 5 pick from the Phillies. He pitched the ninth inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

                          Game Three: L 5-4
                          Win: Ryan Helsley (1-0) 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO
                          Loss: Cole Sands (0-1) 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB 0 SO

The Twins would take the early lead, but Alex Burleson tied the game with a three run double. Byron Buxton would give the Twins their second lead with a solo home run, but Nolan Gorman would erase that with an RBI double. The Cards would walk it off in the tenth on a base hit from, who else, Nolan Arenado to avoid the sweep.

The Twins (2-1) have shown promise in their first series, but there are obvious flaws. The bullpen is shaky, and the offense has struck out a boatload. Minnesota will hope a trip to the Southside against the White Sox (2-1) can help get some of the rust out.

Against all better judgement, I've decided to go with the Twins this time. I was thinking of running with the Twins, Royals, Reds, or Pirates. I decided the Twins were the best combination for me.

The Mets freefall continues, getting swept by the A's and following that up with a loss to open the series against the Twins. After giving up double digit runs three games in a row the Mets have only given up five per game the last two games so things are improving. We're currently sitting at 7-9, four games behind the Phillies
