Guardians’ cool off, but they’re facing the White Sox so it doesn’t really matter…
Game 1: W 10-3
Win: Luis Ortiz (1-0) 5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 SO, 1 BB, 2 ER
Loss: Jairo Iriarte (1-1) 2.0 IP, 7 H, 2 SO, 2 BB, 6 ER
Kyle Manzardo stays hot; hitting two home runs and another double, accounting for 3 of Cleveland's 10 runs. The Guardians scored in each of the first six innings, and six different hitters drove in runs (Manzardo, Santana, Lane Thomas, Gabriel Arias [who hit his first home run of the season], Brayan Rocchio and Nolan Jones). Luis Ortiz was decent, but not razor sharp, but Cleveland’s offensive explosion allowed him to stay in long enough to earn the win. The White Sox managed to have as many hits as Cleveland (14), but never really threatened.
Game 2: W 3-2
Win: Jakob Junis (2-0) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER
Loss: Jonathan Cannon (0-3) 5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 SO, 0 BB, 3 ER
Tanner Bibee got off to a rough start, giving up two runs in the first on a triple from Luis Robert Jr. He would walk two in the inning, but also strike out two. Bibee would be effectively wild for his entire outing, which lasted only 4.2 innings as he was already nearing 100 pitches. He would leave with the game tied at 2, thanks to a two run single from Carlos Santana in the top of the fourth. Bibee ended up with a no decision, with the two earned runs, two walks but seven strikeouts. The Guardians broke the tie in the fifth on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez, and from there it was all Cleveland’s bullpen: Jakob Junis, Hunter Gaddis, Cade Smith and Emmanuel Clase all kept Chicago’s offense quiet to give Cleveland a hard fought win.
Game 3: W 5-3
Win: Paul Sewald (1-0) 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER
Loss: Sean Burke: (0-1) 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 SO, 0 BB, 1 ER
Shane Bieber was not at his sharpest, but was able to make it through six innings. He left with the White Sox leading 2-0, giving up 8 hits and only striking out 3. It would all come to nothing, however, as Cleveland rallied in the seventh on a pinch hit two run double from Jhonkensy Noel. Not to be outdone, Chicago dug deep and again took the lead in the eighth on an RBI base hit from Luis Robert. But, since they’re the White Sox, they were not to be given the victory. Jose Ramirez once again tied the game in the bottom of the 8th with a solo home run. The game would go into extras, but the Guards would walk it off on the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th when, who else, Jose Ramirez launched his second home run of the night into the right field seats. That capped off a sweep of the series and puts the Guardians win streak at eight games.
Cleveland (9-3) looks to continue their hot start to the season by welcoming the Kansas City Royals (7-6) into town for a three game series.
