    2025 Cleveland Guardians

Guardians’ cool off, but they’re facing the White Sox so it doesn’t really matter…

    Game 1: W 10-3
    Win: Luis Ortiz (1-0) 5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 SO, 1 BB, 2 ER
    Loss: Jairo Iriarte (1-1) 2.0 IP, 7 H, 2 SO, 2 BB, 6 ER

Kyle Manzardo stays hot; hitting two home runs and another double, accounting for 3 of Cleveland's 10 runs. The Guardians scored in each of the first six innings, and six different hitters drove in runs (Manzardo, Santana, Lane Thomas, Gabriel Arias [who hit his first home run of the season], Brayan Rocchio and Nolan Jones). Luis Ortiz was decent, but not razor sharp, but Cleveland’s offensive explosion allowed him to stay in long enough to earn the win. The White Sox managed to have as many hits as Cleveland (14), but never really threatened.

    Game 2: W 3-2
    Win: Jakob Junis (2-0) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER
    Loss: Jonathan Cannon (0-3) 5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 SO, 0 BB, 3 ER

Tanner Bibee got off to a rough start, giving up two runs in the first on a triple from Luis Robert Jr. He would walk two in the inning, but also strike out two. Bibee would be effectively wild for his entire outing, which lasted only 4.2 innings as he was already nearing 100 pitches. He would leave with the game tied at 2, thanks to a two run single from Carlos Santana in the top of the fourth. Bibee ended up with a no decision, with the two earned runs, two walks but seven strikeouts. The Guardians broke the tie in the fifth on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez, and from there it was all Cleveland’s bullpen: Jakob Junis, Hunter Gaddis, Cade Smith and Emmanuel Clase all kept Chicago’s offense quiet to give Cleveland a hard fought win.

    Game 3: W 5-3
    Win: Paul Sewald (1-0) 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER
    Loss: Sean Burke: (0-1) 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 SO, 0 BB, 1 ER

Shane Bieber was not at his sharpest, but was able to make it through six innings. He left with the White Sox leading 2-0, giving up 8 hits and only striking out 3. It would all come to nothing, however, as Cleveland rallied in the seventh on a pinch hit two run double from Jhonkensy Noel. Not to be outdone, Chicago dug deep and again took the lead in the eighth on an RBI base hit from Luis Robert. But, since they’re the White Sox, they were not to be given the victory. Jose Ramirez once again tied the game in the bottom of the 8th with a solo home run. The game would go into extras, but the Guards would walk it off on the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th when, who else, Jose Ramirez launched his second home run of the night into the right field seats. That capped off a sweep of the series and puts the Guardians win streak at eight games.

Cleveland (9-3) looks to continue their hot start to the season by welcoming the Kansas City Royals (7-6) into town for a three game series.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

This is my first time getting into a franchise and I mostly utilize high leverage custom entry settings and player lock.

It seems the only place to see individual players energy level is in the lineup menu when progressing through the "full game" or "quick manage" game options. I've been doing a tedious process of clicking through until that menu, remembering which lineup substitutions I want to make, backing all the way out and adjusting the lineup from the main franchise screen and then starting my sim or player lock.

It's a hassle to go through before every game, so I'm hoping there's another menu where I can view player energy that isn't so inconvenient. Any tips?

Finished series with Baltimore to open season after completly choking in game 1

Orioles Power Past Blue Jays Behind Gibson’s Gem

The Baltimore Orioles rolled into Toronto and left with a convincing 6–3 victory over the Blue Jays, led by a stellar outing from veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson, who was named Player of the Game. Gibson delivered a dominant performance on the mound, tossing 7 shutout innings, allowing only 4 hits, and striking out 4 without issuing a walk.

The Orioles offense gave him plenty of support early and often, starting in the 2nd inning, and continuing to tack on runs through the 7th. Jackson Holliday got his own homerun with 2 outs and 2 strik3s in the 7th, finishing the night 1 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Gunnar Henderson added to the attack, going 2 for 4 with a double, RBI, and 2 runs scored. Ryan O’Hearn chipped in with a 2-RBI double, while Jordan Westburg also drove in a run.

On the other side, Kevin Gausman struggled to keep the Orioles in check. He lasted 5.2 innings, surrendering 8 hits and 4 earned runs, striking out 4 and walking 4 in the loss.

George Springer went 1 for 3, Nathan Lukes contributed a double, and Davis Schneider led the team with a 2-hit night, but the offense overall couldn’t break through against Gibson’s command and Baltimore’s bullpen.

With solid pitching and a balanced offensive attack, the Orioles secured a strong road win and will look to carry that momentum forward in the series.

Birds Battle in the North: Orioles Outlast Blue Jays in Tight Contest

In a gritty matchup that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Baltimore Orioles edged out the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 in a high-energy game that featured clutch pitching, timely hits, and a long-awaited moment from one of Toronto’s stars.

Veteran right-hander Charlie Morton earned the win for Baltimore and was named Player of the Game, delivering a strong performance on the mound. Morton tossed 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 5 and walking 1. His poise and control were key in keeping the Blue Jays' offense in check.

Offensively, Baltimore spread the love across the lineup. Cedric Mullins continued to be a spark plug, going 2-for-5 with a double, RBI, and a run scored. Adley Rutschman and Ryan O’Hearn both delivered with the bat, each driving in a run, while Rutschman launched a solo home run in the 7th to cap off the O’s offense. Felix Bautista came in to shut the door in the 9th, notching his first save of the season.

Chris Bassitt took the loss for Toronto, going 5 innings while allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs. He struggled early allowing the first 3 batters to make it on base and allowed a run, before settling down in the 3rd and 4th, but the damage had already been done and Toronto were down 3 quickly. Despite solid moments, including 6 K's, he couldn’t overcome Baltimore’s consistent pressure at the plate.

Toronto had their own share of highlights. Bo Bichette laced a double and went 1-for-4. However, the loudest cheer from the Rogers Centre crowd came in the 6th inning when Anthony Santander launched the teams 1st home run of the season, a towering blast to left that finally put him on the board for 2025. While Santander's solo shot couldn’t turn the tide, it was a bright spot for a Blue Jays team looking for consistent production from their veteran core going into the 4th game of this opening season series on Sunday.

Blue Jays Walk It Off in Thriller as Bullpen Falters for Orioles

Max Scherzer delivered a vintage performance on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings, but the Bluejays bullpen couldn't hold the lead, ultimately allowong Baltimore to tie it at 4 in the 8th.

Toronto seemed to be in control early, riding Scherzer’s dominant outing combined with the teams tiimely offense, including a 2 for 5 effort from Santander who homered and drove in two. His 2nd homerun in as many nights.

However, the tide turned in the eighth inning. Yimi García, tasked with preserving a slim lead, surrendered two runs, including a game-tying shot that gave the Rogers Centre fears of opening night.

But Toronto responded in the ninth inning. With two outs and the game tied, Nathan Lukes stepped to the plate and launched a walk-off homerun into the Toronto night, sealing the first victory of the season for the Blue Jays. Lukes went 2-for-5 on the night with a homer, two RBIs, and two runs scored, capping it with the decisive blast and the 7-5 win.

Jeff Hoffman earned the win after a clean ninth inning in relief, while Gregory Soto took the loss for Baltimore, allowing two earned runs over 1.2 inningsToronto now welcome The Nationals (1-2) to The Rogers Centre.

Phillies lose first series of the season to the Dodgers

                        Game 1 : Dodgers 5-3 Phillies
                        W : Alex Vesia (1-0, 1.0 IP, 2 K, 0 BB, 0 ER)
                        L : Hosé Alvarado (0-1, 1.0 IP, 2 K, 1 BB, 2 ER)

In a potential postseason matchup, the Phillies welcomed the Dodgers to Citizens Bank Park for a three-game series. The first game of the series started on the right note for Philadelphia when Kyle Schwarber hit a 439-foot solo home run in the 2nd inning to put the Phillies ahead, 1-0. The score remained the same until the 5th inning when the Dodgers scored two runs to take the lead. However, the Phillies regained the lead in the next inning with Bryson Stott hitting his first home run of the season, and Alec Bohm drove in Harper with an RBI single. Unfortunately, the bullpen couldn’t hold onto the lead, and Los Angeles scored two more runs in the 8th inning and added one more in the 9th to win the first game of the series.

                        Game 2 : Dodgers 5-7 Phillies
                        W : Orion Kerkering (1-0, 1.1 IP, 1 K, 0 BB, 0 ER)
                        L : Tanner Scott (1-2, 0.1 IP, 1 K, 0 BB, 2 ER)
                        S : Matt Strahm (4)

In the second game, Ranger Suárez pitched a solid game (6.1 IP, 5 K, 0 BB, 0 ER), while the Phillies' offense scored two runs in the 3rd inning (a 2-run HR by Harper for his 3rd home run of the season) and added two more in the 5th with Kepler, who hit his first home run of the season, and a RBI single by Bryson Stott. Unfortunately for the Phillies, the bullpen completely blew the lead in the seventh as the Dodgers scored five runs to take the lead. But in the bottom of the 8th, with two outs and two runners on base, J.T. Realmuto, who had really struggled since the start of the season, chose the right moment to be the hero of the day with a 420-foot home run to put the Phillies in front, 7-5. Matt Strahm then came in and closed the door for his fourth save of the season.

                        Game 3 : Dodgers 5-2 Phillies
                        W : Shohei Ohtani (2-0, 5.0 IP, 9 K, 2 BB, 2 ER)
                        L : Aaron Nola (1-1, 5.1 IP, 6 K, 2 BB, 5 ER)
                        SV : Tanner Scott (2)

When you face a team like the Dodgers, you have to bring your A+ game to have a chance to win. Unfortunately for Aaron Nola, it was a day when his control wasn’t really there. Despite lasting 5 innings, the Dodgers got to him early, scoring three times in the first inning. Things then got worse when Ohtani went deep for a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning. Bryson Stott cut the deficit in the bottom of the 5th inning with a 2-run home run. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, while the bullpen managed to keep the deficit to three runs, the offense had a hard time at the plate, recording a total of only five hits.

Philadelphia (6-3, 1st in the NL East) will now have a day off as they travel to Atlanta to face the Braves (6-4) in a 3-game series.

In a potential postseason matchup, the Phillies welcomed the Dodgers to Citizens Bank Park for a three-game series. Surprisingly not horrible so far...The speed that Esteury Ruiz and Jon Berti add to the team is keeping us in ball games. Lots of small ball. Pitching has been surprisingly solid, so I lowered the human pitcher control/confidence sliders down to 1 to see if that helps.

Cardinals drop 4th of July weekend series to Cubs in Wrigley

The Cardinals (39-52) dropped the holiday weekend series to the Cubs in Chicago. The Cardinals are 9 games behind the Brewers in division and 11 out of the wildcard.

The Cardinals returned to factory settings as the pitching staff couldn't get outs and the offense could get timely hits. Ryan Helsley blew the save in Game 1, the Cardinals won 3-1 on Saturday thanks to poor pitching (6 walks) and defense (4 errors) by the Cubs, and then lost 11-2 on Sunday.

With the draft and the All-Star break approaching in a week or so, the time off and focus on the future couldn't come fast enough.

The Cardinals will travel to Washington for a 3 game series with the Nationals before welcoming the Braves to town for a 3 game weekend series to close out the first half of the season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
