The only thing I can contribute to this thread is that the 91 rookie DeGrom is garbage. He was my rookie pull from my Gamestop pre-order so he was the first guy on my team, and even though he has been my best SP by over 10 OVR points the entire time through about 100 games, he's by far the worst. Gives up yakkers like nobody's business. I am dominating with guys like Steven Matz, Derek Holland and Mike Fiers, but the 91 rookie DeGrom is atrocious. Avoid at all costs if you were hoping to use it for your team.

I have that same deGrom and it's actually a really good card.
Through 6 games with him he is 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA. He has 51 K's, and opponents hit .155 against him.
He has great stuff, his fastball is slower than current deGrom but he has a slider, curve and changeup to go with a 4SFB and a 2SFB. You can keep guys really off balance with using his 5 pitch repertoire. You have to use his changeup low to set up his other pitches. That's my strategy with most pitchers with changeups is to use it low a little out of the zone to get swing and misses and then set up everything else off that pitch.Comment

Re: Player Review Thread
Rod Carew is great. Solid in the field and really gets the bat on the ball, it doesn't always result in a hit but you don't have to worry about him striking out. I'm a very in disciplined hitter since I'm new but in 61 at bats he only has ONE strikeout. Only hitting .262 but he puts the ball in play at least. I have the same problem with ichiro and tony Gwynn all of them are great at putting the ball in play and not striking out but it's 100% my fault their averages are not over .300 because I'm still learning and I found out I just need to try to get the PCI on top of the ball more and they will start getting on base more.Comment

Carew is all-around awful for me. He has made so many fielding and throwing errors on routine plays, I'm done with him.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

79 OVR Francisco Cervelli (Catcher, Pirates)
STATS:
62 AB l 23 H l 8 AB/RISP l 3 H/RISP l 3 2B l 3 3B l 4 HR l 9 RBI l 0 BB l .379 AVG l
Fielding:
Haven't had any missed throws, the fielding stats average in the mid 70s. Not amazing, but doesn't make mistakes. If you slide step this year and pay attention to the runners, you should be able to nab most people. Only been swiped a few times from perfect jumps by the 90+ speed guys. - 8/10 -
Hitting:
Classic slap hitter. Three words, but that's all you really need to know about this beast. Why is he so good at he does? Let me explain, he bats righty and the defense defaults to an extreme slap shift to the right and you can pull heat down the line for XBH and even homers. Lets say you want to go with his natural swing though, and you want to slap the ball. Cervelli's swing seems to provide those topspin-heavy line drives that drop in the gaps in the outfield. Make sure to shade your PCI a little higher so you can get more contact on the ball and you should be raking in those hits. His one weakness is power swings. I wouldn't power swing with him, but if you square up a regular X swing, a few will leave the yard. He has just enough power to actually hit homers unlike other contact hitters such as Ichiro. Great hitter, have to dock him a point for lacking some more power. - 9/10 -
Baserunning:
For a catcher, 48 speed isn't too bad. He got me a few triples and surprised at times. Solid. - 7/10 -
Final Thoughts:
Overall I'd say he's an amazing player for the price. I happened to review him because he's had some great inside edge matchups, 4-5 stars for the past 2 weeks or so which bumps him to around a 85. Love this guys hitting, he actually gets starts in my main squad because his swing and playstyle works so well for me. I have him in the middle of the line up and hes a great connector between my contact/speed guys and my power/contact players in the lineup. Would recommend to anyone, he's dirt cheap at around 200-400 stubs and well worth the try if you're looking for a catcher that will get hits and get on base for you. - 9/10 -
Hope you guys find it useful. Thanks for the format Topic Starter.Last edited by IcyVegeta; 04-30-2016, 01:45 PM.Comment
